Floppo!
Where you been? Missed your Nats analysis.
Been busy and just not in the FFA mindset... except for the Gold Cup, but the busy won out.
I pretty much had one thought about the US in the Gold Cup- every player bought into the formation and team shape, which was as positive and consisent as I've ever seen from the US. Kudos to Klinsmann for installing a more attack minded 4-4-2, and to the players to work hard as a unit to help support it. Their shape denied the opposition any room on the dribble or passing lanes defensively, and allowed the US to get into the attack with numbers easily ("easily" after working hard). Other than EJ and LD, I didn't see anybody at the next level, but yeah- an entire teamload of guys without holes. Our B team is far better/deeper than any other in the region (but maybe not without LD or EJ) and to a man, completely committed to the system.
Guys I would like to see moving forward: LD (obviously), EJ (Ditto), DMB, Torres (touch like velcro, amazing vision and seems like the only guy outside of EJ who can take a guy on.. but fades too much), Mix (surprised w his steel and workrate- decent skills and vision too... with Holden hurt, Mix's stock soars), Corona (willingness to get forward and go at goal, good skills, nice upside- but almost in the 3rd group for me), RImando (fantastic showing by him)
Guys I've seen enough: Beckerman (give him acres of space and time and he's Maradonna... just have to convince the opposition to do this), Wondo (Wondo's movement when he's not in the box doesn't fit this system)
Guys who need to show more: Parkhurst (he's close, but felt like he wasn't invovled enough and caught by speed), Shea (inconsistent, but still with huge upside- team shape suffered defenstively every time he went in), Bedoya (close, but inconsistency puts him here... love the heart and explosiveness).
