Spurs are not playing around. In no way is Bale worth this amount of $$.

Suarez is now worth what?
Various fees are still be thrown about, but it appears from all trustworthy inside sources this really is done. I hate to see him leave, but whatever the fee it's outrageous and Levy/Baldini/AVB have done a great job rebuilding the squad. Just need to finish up Willian, buy Lamela, and bring in a CB and we'll be all set. :)

I am not sure where Tasker's list is, but add me to:

1. Spurs

2. Barcelona

3. Dortmund

4. Roma

I've been a fan of Barça for a while, and have recently been following Spurs after being introduced to FM2013.

Bayern to play in silent Allianz Arena

The link is a couple of weeks old, but I just saw the article today.

The powers that be in Munich, and the Fan base have been having issue for a while. If you watch a Bayern match and it seems quiet, now you have some understanding.
A silent German stadium will definitely be weird.

What's going on here? Are the traditional vocal, blue collar fans getting priced out of the seats here the way they are at so many other grounds in Europe?

 This looks like a done deal, and for around the high price being quoted. RM are back to their galacticos signings. I have a feeling they'll supplement this with a move for Suarez if Arsenal are serious about Benzema.

I give Spurs full credit for being proactive about Bale's departure even as they were still negotiating with RM for him.

Usually most of the singing you hear at a home Bayern match comes out of the stands in the South end of the stadium (Südkurve). This is comprised of two sections and they are standing sections. Naturally this is where the rowdier crowd ends up and, as always the case, there are some more interested in being trouble makers. To battle this, Bayern have installed turnstiles and are only allowing you in the section if your ticket actually is for that section. This is preventing many that frequent the section from getting there and joining the action. Along with this the club is also taking away some tickets from regulars and even banning some from any matches in the league. The organized fan clubs and Bayern have met to "discuss" the situation. Evidently these discussions are just Bayern telling the clubs "too bad."

I have a friend who is a season ticket holder at Allianz and he has become increasingly annoyed with the ultra clubs in recent years. They add atmosphere but also make all sorts of demands and are constantly protesting some club policy or something else not related to supporting the team and they think they are above the rest of the fans. These are the guys who jeered Neuer for a whole season and tried to drive him out of Bayern because he belonged to a Schalke fan club as a kid. They light flares and torches and often have ties to the right wing violent groups. Its a bigger problem with CL games when UEFA controls the host stadium. I don't think they are representative of the common Bayern fans who just want to watch the games and support the players.

A little off topic, but I've always been interested in the extreme fans of European soccer (and I'm sure it spills over to other continents too). I've seen the movies, The Football Factory, Green Street Houligans (even have this one at home :bag: ).....but have followed a number of euroboards to read more about traditional rivalries of even lower end clubs.

I was not aware of the extreme hooliganism there was in Holland. The rivalry between Ajax and Feynoord is so extreme, that fans have to purchase a combo ticket/rail fare in order to get to the away games, take a special train, and go through a tube from the train station directly to their seats which are cordoned off from the rest of the crowd. If anyone is interested in a video about it, I thought this was a pretty good documentary....

Lost amidst the injuries, the Arsenal transfer soap opera, and the horrific refereeing this past weekend was that Villa put in a very solid performance for 90 minutes. I think they're a top half team if they stay healthy.
Me too. And I expect their counter-out-of-nothing style will give Liverpool fits this weekend.

Anelka reportedly walked out of training today and cleared out his locker. Official statement from WBA is "West Bromwich Albion can confirm that Nicolas Anelka will not be involved in Saturday’s game at Everton. The club have excused the striker from club duty on compassionate grounds. The club have excused the striker from club duty on compassionate grounds."

Another 'me too.'

I've read a lot about it and wrote a long paper on authorities vs hooligans for a conflict resolution class I took once upon a time. If there are any budding sociologists out there there's a thesis waiting to be written on how physical pain as an in-group bonding experience might apply to hooliganism.

Pretty bummed that my boys couldn't hold off a 1-0 win at home. Neymar was just too open not to score that one. The team played well, but lacked some attacking movement. The game plan was solid and having a not 100% Messi sure helps against Barça, but still... Obviously there's a talent gap, as there always has been, but at least there is far less mental breakdown on defense than previous Atlético teams. Simeone has those guys head on straight.

I was impressed by Villa and his ability to get behind defenders. He will be the steal of this transfer season. Unfortunatley, Arda, Koke, Oliver, Baptistao, and even Diego Costa didn't deliver in the second half to keep the pressure off the defense. I wasn't really impressed with Oliver or Baptistao at all, but they had limited time. However, it shouldn't be hard to run past Piqué.

Those are valid issues. There are those in these clubs that think they are the better fans. I was reading a letter yesterday in which the author was attempting to dispell this, but you do get that feeling. Those that booed Neuer are crazy. Who a player was a fan of as a kid or what team he used to play for shouldn't matter. The flares in the crowd look great, but personally I don't get it. I completely understand the banning of them, and if you get caught, you should be banned.

I think where most of the club membership is coming from on this is the nuclear bomb to kill a mosquito tactic. Rather than police the section better they just change the seating arrangement. Rather than catching those doing flares at away CL matches, suspend ticket sales through the fan clubs to those matches. From what I read there is a "how long before we all get banned" mentality, and they do not like the police.

Again, this is a minority of people causing the problems, but the clubs tend to stick together.

This Football Factories International series looks awesome, hits a lot of the best spots. Think I'm going to watch them all.

Not sure if this is a repost or not, but I just read an article about the Gunners needing a defensive mid fielder more than anything, and thought it interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb9N6iau1Zo

Carra: "The only people that overspend at Arsenal are the supporters"
There's some truth to what he's saying, but he's biased in ways that Neville is certainly not. Saying that Arteta (ex-Everton, of course) was merely "OK" is ridiculous.

Also, LoL at the return of Mathieu Flamini. That should ease Gooners' fears. Maybe we can get Alexander Hleb back while we're at it and really go for the whole "hardworking players who were good when Cesc was a teenager" dynamic.

Flamini's actually a good signing as a squad player for depth. He's free, he knows the system, he fits a (desperate) need at the holding mid position, is PL and CL proven and he's even been training at Arsenal's training ground for weeks waiting on a contract.

Sure, I can see that he has some bias, but I thought the interesting bits were the analysis of the midfield play.

For anyone that hasn't seen this yet (and I don't think it's been mentioned yet), check out this spectacular goal by Griezmann in the Lyon/Real Sociedad match from a couple days ago:

Golaso

Swansea up 3-0 in the first Europe leg. This should let Laudrop rest a few players for the weekend match against Tot'nam.

Arteta isn't a classic number 6 but he was very effective as deep-lying distributor. He'll never be a Viera type who can win balls in midfield, help out the back four and go forward when necessary.

Abou Diaby could play that role but only for about an hour per season.

Someone on twitter:

After 5 years Arsenal have finally replaced Flamini.... with Flamini

Lots of stories now that Chelsea have come in and are going to sign Willian instead of Spurs. I knew I jinxed it the other day.

The likelihood that the move is all but tied up appeared greater when reports said the Real Madrid website had included Bale’s name on a list of those that can be printed on the back of shirts.

Screen grabs of the club's official online shop appeared to show the option to buy a Bale No. 11 replica shirt. Shortly after those screen grabs were taken, the page was unavailable due to site maintenance.

Apparently the second part of this move would see Mata moved to United in change for Rooney (apparantly per sky and espn) Mourinho seems to prefer Oscar to Mata to play behind the striker and Mata is miscast on the wing. Willian fits that role. As for United, they were linked to Mata earlier this summer and they clearly want a new midfielder based on their interest in Fabergas.

Of course all of these moves impact Spurs who seem like they're finally ready to part with Bale given the replacements they've lined up. If all this transpires ( ) will they still sell?

Now that the season has started all these ridiculous, silly rumors seem to have much more signifigance.

These Mata rumors all summer seem extremely far fetched and the Willian stuff makes no sense to me. I think I'd handicap Mata to United in the same tier as Falcao to ####, just slightly more likely than Iker to Chelsea.

I never pay much attention to these rumors but for some reason I think this one may have legs...

Mourinho confirmed the Willian talks in his press conference today. He said Mata was a player that "everybody likes and wants to keep."

Hard to know what to make of that considering how stacked Chelsea is in that position.

Press immediately saying that Tottenham have moved on to Pjanic. I'm kind of pulling for that deal just so I can make a "Pjanic buy" pun. I don't know if that would be in lieu of both Willian and Lamela, but I can't imagine Roma giving up Pjanic and Lamela.

Here we go hot off the presses - straight from the horses mouth

Willian: Jose Mourinho indicates winger set for Chelsea
Jose Mourinho has indicated that £30m Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder Willian will choose Chelsea over Tottenham.

Willian, 25, had undergone a medical with Spurs, but could now sign for the Blues after they entered the race for his signature on Thursday.

When asked whether the Brazilian had chosen to make the move to Stamford Bridge, Mourinho nodded.

The Chelsea boss added: "I know what the player wants, so in this moment we cannot hide. That is a possibility."

Willian joined Anzhi in January for a reported £30m after five-and-a-half seasons at Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk. But he has become available as the Russian side attempt to cut costs after a change in strategy by their owner.

Tottenham had expected to break their transfer record and make Willian their fifth major summer signing.

But Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich intervened, using his contacts at Anzhi to offer a similar fee to Tottenham but with more lucrative add-ons.

Willian has not yet agreed personal terms at the Blues. It is understood he is attracted by the chance to play Champions League football, compete for the Premier League title and work under Mourinho.

"I couldn't say much in previous news conferences," Mourinho said.

"I have to answer your questions and try to be honest, but at the same time try to hide a few things.

"I'm happy with my squad, but every one of us managers, we say we are happy, but we are always unhappy.

"We always want something of more quality and we never close the door to the possibility of adding more quality."

-----

With Hazard, Mata, Oscar, De Bruyne, Schurrle and Moses already vying for three AM spots, it makes ZERO sense to sign a seventh player unless you ship someone off. Aside from Mata, the other candidates are Moses (who has been rumored to Everton though hope its not true) and De Bruyne (who I pray doesnt get loaned out again and I dont think this is an option as hes been superb thus far).

Gotta move fast if you want to make the first Pjanic pun.
