More Southampton transfer rumors: Jack Cork being chased by Crystal Palace, Swansea and maybe West Brom. Jose Fonte ( :lmao: ) pursued by Cardiff.

Bayern announce Players Coming to U.S.

All-Star: Bayern Munich announce star-studded group of players taking part in US tour

Ribery, Neuer, Götze, Muller, Robben, Schweinsteiger all set to appear in Portland with Bayern

A number of 2014 World Cup veterans, including the US national team's Julian Green, will suit up for Bayern Munich for the reigning German champions' entire US tour, which begins next week.

The roster for the tour will feature current UEFA Best Player in Europe Franck Ribéry, last seasons leading Bundesliga goalscorer and new signing Robert Lewandowski, as well as the young up-and-comer Green.

They will be accompanied by the other two summer signings, Sebastian Rode and Juan Bernat. Some of the first-team players that will be part of the squad for the US tour from the start include World Cup participants Javi Martinez (Spain), Xherdan Shaqiri (Switzerland), as well as Bayern veterans David Alaba, Claudio Pizarro and Holger Badstuber.

Bayern will embark on an eight-day tour of the US next week starting with stops in New York and New Jersey for a match against Mexicos Chivas de Guadalajara on July 31 at Red Bull Arena, before heading to Portland to take on the MLS-All Stars on Aug. 6 in the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game (6:30 pm PT, ESPN2/UniMas in US, TSN/RDS in Canada).

The US roster will be supplemented by selected players from the FC Bayern II reserves and U-19 youth players.

Though they won't be available for the game against Chivas, Bayern's six German World Cup winners Manuel Neuer, Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Jerome Boateng, Thomas Müller and Mario Götze along with the other two semi-finalists Arjen Robben (Netherlands) and Dante (Brazil), will join the squad in Portland ahead of the MLS All-Star Game.
Bayern v Chivas de Guadalajara tonight on ESPN.

This is nuts. A preseason epl game out drew the friggin Yankees.

"Attendance at Yankee Stadium: 49,653. That's over 1,000 more people than the highest Yankee game this season. http://t.co/knXdicjBo1"
I've read that Real Madrid against ManUnited could draw over 100,000 at Michigan Stadium on Saturday. Seems unlikely, but that's what is being reported.
They sold out this game back in April. They may break the record for largest soccer crowd ever in US (which is the 1984 Olympic Gold Cup final in the Rose Bowl before it reduced its capacity)

Lukaku didn't wow me at the world cup. Origi looked better as a striker. Sánchez looked like he was carrying a quality Chile side in attack for a lot of the tournament. He was obviously their top class player. Lukaku was not Belgium's best player by a long shot.

Look, I think the guy has a bright future, but Sánchez is now.
Judging players over a 4-5 game tournament is a bit short sighted, no?

International soccer is ####### terrible. I've banged this drum forever, but it really, really is.

You throw together 20 guys that are playing usually at 18 different clubs with 15 different systems, have them practice together for a few weeks where half of the team are used to getting paid 50K+ per week, and then have them try to perform against another team to see who's the best in a a tournament where you lose one game and you're out. The World Cup is the most overhyped contest in the world. At least it only comes around once every four years.

Belgium underperformed as a team. Lukaku is an entirely different player than Sanchez. Lukaku still managed to average about 0.5 goals per appearance on two of the lower scoring sides in England. Sanchez scores at a lesser clip on one of the highest scoring teams in the world.

Sanchez very unlikely to improve being that he's played 3x as many club games as Lukaku.

Sanchez a guy you pickup that fits your current system. Lukaku a guy you can build around.

Over the next 12-18 months, sure Sanchez may perform better.

Over the next four to five years.....well, that's where the judgement can be made.

eta...

dangit point I keep wanting to make and fail to type out. There's been a fairly recent stretch of la liga guys coming to England and not faring very well at all. I don't think Sanchez will have a Soldado like fall from grace, but could be very Negredo-like.

Lukaku has been very consistent so far as a performer in the epl, and I see him getting better with a more certain situation. he was obviously discontent with his future at chelsea and permanent transfer may very well be the best thing that's happened for him.

Why are we comparing strike rates between a winger and striker? Forget about the World Cup for a moment. Lukaku scored 15 goals in 29 appearances (27 starts) for Everton with all the service coming to him (he also had 6 assists, not bad). Alexis scored 19 goals in 27 appearances (only 20 starts) playing on the right wing, with the offense geared to getting Messi his goals. He also had 11 assists.

There are lots of good reasons for Lukaku's premium. He counts as home grown. He's four years younger. Pure strikers tend to cost more. But one reason that nobody should ever be floating is that Lukaku is as good as or better than Sanchez. Sanchez was sold because Barca preferred Luis Suarez, one of the five best players in the world. Lukaku was sold, in part, because Chelsea preferred Samuel Eto'o and Didier Drogba.

I started the comparison just looking at attacking players bought in England this window, but also noted that I'm not sure Lukaku is a pure center forward. When I saw Everton last season (he didn't play against CFC, so it was only a few games), they had Naismith in the 9 and the Kraken on the wing. It seemed to me Wilmots also set him up wide.

If this came true (Twellman has a pretty good track record), it would not transform the league by any means but should allow for the growth cycle to continue

I would be shocked if the DP allotment doesn't raise to 4 and there isn't a significant (45-50%) raise in the cap in @MLS by Jan. 2015

Lukaku will double Alexis' goals

So he should end up with about 8-10

Sanchez is the new Aspas
Sanchez goals O/U 4.5, huh?

Double or nothing? Or you just talking ####?

A little of column A, a little of column B.... ;)

He'll be in single digits, though
Thought so. Wuss.

Set it at 9 then and I'll take the over. Double or nothing on the bar tab I owe you.

Jus t saw Countinho in front of the Prada store on 57th st taking selfies with some of fans. I'm 99.9% positive if he didn't have his LFC apparel on, I would have had no clue who he was.

jfc :lmao:

prada, right?
That's what he was in front of. Of course, I'm carrying takeout pizza and wondering why a bunch of Euro's wearing LFC jerseys are clamoring around this guy.

I do wonder why these guys wear the gear out in NYC.
It was the same way with Valencia in DC. I was with my wife, so I didn't try to get a selfie or anything, but the guy was practically walking around with a sign saying "Hi, I'm fringe Manchester United starter, Antonio Valencia."

must be a team obligation thing.

last time I travelled with a team, we had to do the same. sucked. but we were getting paid a lot of amateur nothing, so yay.

and I was trying to make a joke about what the southpark guy had just finished to... you know. flip it. because of my humor and whatnot.

I suppose the faux pompadour + pencil mustache look is not really going to stand out in NYC.

Former Brazilian international Ronaldinho is reportedly close to joining US Major League Soccer (MLS) club New York Red Bulls.

The 34-year-old's brother and agent Roberto Assis has been in talks with Red Bulls officials about salary and conditions, according to the Uol news portal, reports Xinhua.

Under MLS rules, clubs are allowed three marquee players who are exempt from salary cap rules.

New York currently have two marquee players - former France forward Thierry Henry and Australian Tim Cahill.

Ronaldinho terminated his contract with Atletico Mineiro earlier this week after more than two years with the Brazilian club.
