How come whenever there's a whistle around midfield, the player who takes the free kick HAS to pick the ball up or roll it forward with his hands? Can't you just tap it to where you need it with your feet?

It's essentially a courtesy to let the other team know you're resetting the ball for play. I'm not aware of a rule which actually requires it.

So, if the USA holds on to win this thing...biggest upset since the '80 Olympics? Obviously, it's a different thing (with no USSR anymore etc), but just as big, considering the teams?

Timmy standing on his head. Spector absolutely locking down his spot. Kaka is constantly attacking and he hasn't taken a bad step yet.

Any thoughts on the subs in the 2nd half? Gotta think Bradley continues with the trend of subbing a MF for Davies and sliding Dempsey up front.

Which will affect you more? The USA winning this game or Dimebag's death?

I think we can improve upon our marking in the second half...particularly in the box on non-set plays.

What is Lalas saying at half?? Master of the obvious again?

Where would this rank in terms of upsets? For US to burn through Spain and then Brazil AFTER having a 6 goal deficit to overcome to make the semis? Futbol experts?
The two-games combined?Probably #2 after the Miracle on Grass in 1950.
Together they'd surpass it.
Which one affected you more? The win over Spain or the win over England in 1950....
Ah, yes. I remember the day we beat England in 1950 like it was yesterday.

Just saw the second goal again...what a run by Landon...great effort there.
Will be interesting in 2nd half - Donovan will need to track back all the way - as he almost was burned a couple of times in 1st half - but we need him to be there for the counter.

I wouldn't put that one on Demerit. That was all Luis Fabiano and the great passing from Brazil.
Seriously? that was his mark.
He kept his body between the ball and the net....he was right on his back, and couldn't foul because it was in the box....Fabiano with a perfect turn and one-time shot....Demerit was in the right position.... :shrug:Awful touch from Dempsey right there, poor decision from Davies too.
