I'm curious as to everyone's thoughts on the world's current Best 11. I dont watch all the leagues, so my view is a tad limited.

The best I've seen.....

GK- Casillas.

CB- Vidic, Puyol(not sold on this, but i dont know a ton of other guys)

LB- Evra

RB- Sergio Ramos

MF- too many options here, but for my money, I'm taking C. Ronaldo, Messi and Gerrard. I'm undecided on the 4th. So many great ones. Dont really know how to diferentiate between them.

Striker- Rooney (he's just been unreal this year), Fernando Torres (again, his goals just make my jaw drop)
Andres Iniesta or Xavi - I would pick Iniesta (when he's fit) just barely ahead of Xavi

I think I'd take both over Gerrard.

The Championssssssssssssssssss :lmao: :)

Some real good matches tomorrow that I'm looking forward to. Quite a few road teams I like to come away with wins....perhaps a certain Greek side

I'd have Ribery on that squad.

Watched the Man City/ West Ham game.

Some thought from a noob...

1) Tevez is a manchild. He shoulda had 4 goals at least. He seemed to always find the ball in the box. He just missed 2 I thoughts were easy goals.

2) That striker for West Ham is a stud. I think his name is Cole. Why isnt he on a better team?

3) Man City is pretty good. I dont have much to compare to as I have only watched a few games, but they seemed like they were always in control.

Carlton Cole is kinda recently a star player. He's also a bit of a late bloomer in terms of soccer.

I can't ever decide if Carlos Tevez gets fatter every time I see him or if I just keep forgetting how fat he is. Maybe it is the hi def. Maybe it's the baby blue. Just looking at him I can't believe he is only 25. He's got late stage maradonaism going. But no doubt that fattie can play.

He was on Chelsea for several years but couldnt break into the first team....

Have been in Spain for the last five days...I forget how serious they take their football here...the concierge guy has a Seville football club necklace on...the tech support internet guy at my hotel had a Real Madrid tattoo. Speaking of which, had 10th row tickets to the Real madrid game this past Saturday...Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzen...amazing soccer and an amazing environment. All the guys around me only wanted to talk about Champions League though...that's all the Real Madrid fans care about these days...they also gave Landon Donovan and the Americans their props...they admitted the Americans might be turning the corner.

Oh yeah, and I mentioned the Americans beating the Spanish in the Confederations cup and almost got jumped by the entire section...

Benzen = Benzema?I'm taping the Arsenal match today...it's not being shown until like 8 PM on FSC?

yeah, the Real Madrid fans had a shortened nickname for him although I'm probably not doing it any justice...If I have time I'll post my pics...this was my first big time Euro soccer experience so I was pretty taken back by the intensity of the fans...they don't stop watching the game for a second...no beer runs, no bathroom breaks....very, very serious viewing...there's nothing like it in the States from a regular season perspective...maybe a Yankees/Sox game.ETA: thought I had a shot at the Seville/Glasgow Champions League game but realized it's in Poland, not Seville, where I'm staying right now. That would have been sick.

Live on Fox Sports West. Probably Fox Sports East in your area. Fox Sports West en Espanol has the Barca game live. Good thing I haven't thrown away my old TV yet. Have them side by side now

Time Warner doesn't carry Fox Sports here....only FSC for some reason

Carl just couldn't get out of Ashley and Joe's shadows - was forever doomed as the #3 Cole on the team.

Will be watching the Real Madrid match in a Seville tapas bar!

TIVO'ing all the matches today. Prety excited to watch.

Is Wolfsburg any good? I know they won the league last year, but i can honestly say i hadnt even heard of them until i saw this match on the schedule.

They are a very attacking team. Last year they scored 80 goals in 34 league matches. After 7 matches this season they have 15. Their defense is suffering this year as they've given up 14 in 7 while last year only giving up 41 all season.

seems like that would play right into ManU's hands. Their back 4 is tremendous,(now that Ferdinand is healthy again) so they should be able to stop them and counter pretty easily..right?As long as Foster doesnt make another brain fart, i gotta think they win this one.

That is because they know they cannot overtake Barca in La Liga.

Chelsea's plays Apoel from Cyprus. They are without Drogba (suspended), Ballack (injured), Mikel (injured) and Boswinga (suspended). Additionally, Ashley Cole is banged up and is a gametime decision. Thats half of all Chelsea's starting field players. Will not be an easy match - and Apoel held up well against Atletico.

Not really. Atletico played awful and still absolutely controlled that match IIRC. I would expect Chelsea will still roll them.

Yeah, just free for having Directv. Actually, as I look at that press release, it also says it shows at least 3 La Liga games each week as well. I didn't know that!

they still field a good, experienced first XI, although there are a couple subs that I don't typically see:
Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Carvalho, Terry, Ashley Cole, Belletti, Essien, Lampard, Kalou, Anelka, Malouda. Subs: Hilario, Joe Cole, Zhirkov, Deco, Sturridge, Hutchinson, Bruma.

God is this frustrating.

My ####### ####-hole team is giving me fits. The defense is so poor. They're losing 1-0 in Porto. Their CL dreams might already be over.

And they're done.

OK, Alteitco, it was a nice season. You guys put in a string of horrid performances and you've basically ####ed the entire season up already.

It's time to sell Kun, get the $50m, bank it, build a new stadium, and hope that some decent talent comes your way in the next 10 years because you've squandered the best chance you've had in 10 years.

####### ####s.

Only watched the United/Wolfsburg game.

Wolfsburg showed the blue print on how to beat United...yet didn't have the talent of players to do so. Keep your form on defense, and Manchester United does not have anyone other than Rooney that can break you down. Berbatov is an effing magician with the ball, but worthless taking on a solid defense. Giggs is nowhere near the player he once was, yet on a set piece is still very valuable. Carrick and Fletcher are butchers in the attack. In the end, United was able to win, but it's obvious how the loss of Tevez and Ronaldo has effected them. I wish Valencia would do more, and Park needs to see more time on the field. Anderson is very capable, but it seems he's been told not to get lost up front, he is playing well back in the game. Nani is another guy conspicuously missing. Anyway, I'm not disappointed in the result, I just think Ferguson needs to tinker a bit more on the lineup as the class of competition rises.

I miss having loads of free time to watch mid-week soccer at will. FINALLY got time to watch the Arsenal game....no comments on the Arshavin goal? Sure he was offside, but it was still pretty.

Olympiakos' keeper (Nikopolidis or something to that effect) played amazing too.

Nikopolidis played lights out no question. Shame for him that his team got dominated that bad bc a performance like that deserves a better result. Maybe it's just that I don't particularly like him (he comes across pretty douchy to me) but am I the only one that thinks Arshavin's goal could just as easily have been tapped in normally? He was one on one with the keeper from the 6 with no defender in sight. Seems everyone I've talked to is wow oh wow, did you see that goal? I just don't see the big deal. And yes, he was clearly offsides.

Here's the video of it for those that haven't seen.

Real Madrid looked awesome last night...they've got to be the frontrunner at this point, no?

Way too early to say that. We've yet to see this squad face any real adversity or having to show some steel in response to going down or playing in a big game. This weekend has the potential to be a big test for them if Sevilla doesn't roll over like they tend to do against Barca and Madrid.

Arshavin goal was sweet. Very Zola-esque.

Happy to see Belletti get on the field in the starting 11. Hes pure class but is buried behind a very deep, talented midfield. Very happy that we started with two wins. With Atletico playing poorly, Chelsea is in great position in what I thought was going to be a tough group. Also, whats up with Alex? Is he injured?

US roster for Hon/CR

No Castillo?

Did they end up moving the game or is it still going to be in Honduras?

No Castillo is kind of disappointing but not unexpected I guess.

Watched the Everton Europa League game and they are just horrible right now. They were lucky to pull out a win against a team that somehow appeared to outclass them. I know nothing of BATE Borisov so maybe they are decent but I have a hard time understanding how any side from Belarus can control an EPL team.

Eddie Johnson played all 90 in the Fulham game. Good for him. Maybe he can get his career back on track. He's still only 25. I have that game tivo'd so I'll be interested to watch it at some point.

Portsmouth apparently can't pay their players. New ownership supposedly is infusing cash but what a tough year for them so far.

I saw they played a CONCACAF Champions League game there this week so I think we are good to go on playing in Honduras. I really would have thought Castillo would be called into training even if he didn't dress. For instance, if we win at Hon, it would be nice to give him a tryout vs CR but I don't think they can do that now.

Well, Championship salaries tend to be lower than EPL ones....
