MLS signs 16 year old member of US U20 team.

http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/news/_/id...er-omar-salgado

MLS has added its second foreign-based American inside of a week, capturing the signature of former Chivas Guadalajara youth player and current under-20 player Omar Salgado, according to a league source.

Unlike last week's addition of Sal Zizzo, Salgado has signed a Generation adidas contract and thus will not go into a weighted lottery.

Instead, the 16-year-old forward will be available to be selected in January's MLS SuperDraft. It was uncertain why Salgado will wait until next season to join the league.

Salgado, a forward from El Paso, Texas, was a highly touted prospect with Chivas until he chose to represent the U.S. at the U-20 level. This put Salgado at odds with the club's policy of fielding only players eligible to represent Mexico internationally.

At a recent U.S. U-20 training camp, Salgado was singled out for praise by manager Thomas Rongen, who included the forward on his roster for the Milk Cup, a youth tournament held in Northern Ireland.

Liverpool opens this season's play on Thursday with a Europa league match against Maecedonian side Rabotnicki Kometal

Here's Brazil's roster for the friendly against the US:

Selecao Brasileira

Very interesting list of players - Menezes is changing things up quite a bit. Good to see.
jesus, they already have a roster and the US still does not have the coaching situation settled yet.I think Bradley is contracted through the rest of the year so I assume he will care take if they have no yet settled on a coach.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Wizards say they sold 700 season tickets after their exhibition win over Manchester United.

The Wizards beat the English power 2-1 Sunday on goals by Davy Arnaud and Kei Kamara before 52,342 at Arrowhead Stadium, the largest crowd to watch a soccer match in Kansas City.

Team spokesman Rob Thomson said Monday the new tickets were sold as the team opened the first 2,011 season tickets for next year to sales following the victory over the Red Devils.

Kansas City is scheduled to move next June to a $200 million, 18,500-seat stadium under construction at Village West.

Thats fantastic. They seem to have very good soccer support in KC.

This looks like a good opportunity for Chelsea fans to see the Blues stars of the future. Abramovich has apparently opened his wallet this summer and the primary targets all seem to be young Brazilians - Ramires is reportedly a done deal, and there are stronger-than-normal rumors regarding Neymar and Luiz.Another interesting tidbit on the Chelsea front -- after the Torres talk had seemingly died down the past week or so, Paddy Power suspended betting on the Torres transfer saga after an unusual flurry of heavy betting on a move to Stamford Bridge and Sky Bet moved the odds from 1/3 to 2/1 after seeing similar heavy betting on a move to Chelsea

I am definitely NOT a bigger is better type of fan, but they say this kid has some nice skills and the size is something the US does not usually have outside of Central defenders.

And this is yesterday's news but it applies to MLS going forward. Nice timing for the league's signing of 16-year-old Omar Salgado, given that last night he scored the lone goal in the U.S. under-20 team's 1-0 win over China at the Milk Cup in Northern Ireland. With Salgado inked to a Generation Adidas deal, MLS doesn't have to worry about him being snapped up by a European club - my understanding is that there is a Euro passport in the family, and there are tons of Euro scouts who stake out the Milk Cup.

Salgado himself is an interesting story, as the 6-foot-4 El Paso, Texas, native was on the U.S. radar a couple years ago before disappearing to Mexico and his re-emergence this spring is pretty remarkable. By signing his contract with MLS, he can pick a team to train with for the rest of the season (think contender for an early pick in next year's draft, i.e. not the Galaxy) and then get himself loaned out to a lower division club to get some matches under his belt. Don't be surprised if he checks out Portland or Vancouver, since those clubs will have early draft picks when they join MLS next year.

CCL preliminary round starts tonight. 3 MLS teams play their first leg matches, all at home:

Toronto FC vs C.D. Motagua (Honduras), Tues 8PM

LA Galaxy vs Puerto Rico Islanders, Tues 10PM

Seattle Sounders vs Metapan (El Salvador), Wed 10PM

Columbus and Real Salt Lake have already qualified for the group stage. This is an important tournament to establish respect for MLS in the region, and this may be the strongest group of teams we've sent to the tournament in the short CCL era. Seattle might be in trouble and Toronto has played pretty well of late but will have a tough 2nd leg in Honduras. But the other three are the best teams MLS has to offer so a deep run by at least one of them (i.e. semifinals at least) would be a reasonable goal.

Thank you for the heads up. MLS has traditionally not done well in CCL and it would be nice to see that start changing. With the lack of depth in MLS rosters, some times coaches choose the CCL games to rest the regulars, which kills the performance of the MLS sides. Hopefully MLS teams will put out their A side as best they can.are any of these on FSC or online anywhere?

last we heard this was close to a sellout. Have you heard any updates on ticket sales? For those not going to the game but still wanting to see an interesting game, this will be on ESPN2 at 8:30 eastern Wed. night. The MLS All Stars vs Euro Team has been a pretty good formula to produce a fairly good game, especially when compared to the normal all star crap the other sports throw at us.

Kljestan scored a goal today for Anderlecht in the third round of CL qualifying. Pretty cool, that was a nice move for him.

anyone here on soccermanager.com , or am I really late tot he party?
No, but I'd definitely be IN big time on this one.I'm in year 12 of my Football Manager game. I just won Spain's first World Cup in 2022.

Set us up the league brohan.
Looks like it costs some scrilla to run a custom league. I'll fork over the ~$15 for the league of we get enough interest.

I've got control of Everton in this league: English Championship 4472

Sir Alex said that Hernandez may get up to 30 minutes tonight in his possible debut for ManU.

For some reason I am really looking forward to this game.

would not surprise me at all to see Hernandez play quite a bit tonight.I have no idea if there are any substitution rules for the game, are there? I watched a bit of the SJ/Spurs game and it seems like there were unlimited subs? Was shocked they kept Bale in that one too after he got his foot banged up.Predicting a 3-1 United win tonight.

Predicting a 3-1 United win tonight.
It may be even more lopsided. This will not be like playing the MLS club sides which are relatively in form and in sync and have given ManU a decent game. The MLS allstars will have almost no prep time together and 5 of their starters played a ton of minutes just last night.

I wouldn't be so sure. The MLS All-Stars are 4-0-1 against English and Scottish sides. The 4 wins were over Chelsea, Fulham, Celtic, and West Ham.

This is a good point. Although I don't ever remember so many players being involved in a game the night before an all star game. Buddle, Donovan, DeRo etc all went long minutes last night (I think all 3 played the whole game).

That, coupled with the fact we are talking about Manchester ####### United, not Fulham, is the reason I predict a pretty solid win.SAF's been talking about how this is the biggest game of the ManU tour, and I definitely believe they will field their strongest side. (all speculation on my part s far as lineup, but SAF has mentioned he is aware of the MLS all-star record and this is their biggest game prior to the EPL season start). Added to that fact, I think you'll see a pretty excited Hernandez play, as well as guys really fighting for playing time (Machedo, Welbeck, Valencia).....you need realize some of these guys are now fighting for their roster spot due to the new rules limiting roster sizes, I think it will be a strong exhibition for both sides as I can definitely see MLS all stars geared up to play to 70,000+, on national television, against one of the top 5 clubs in the world. Two things working against United are a) obviously no Rooney hurts their attack and b ) their defense is already knicked up, and they'll be fielding a less than fully experienced back line.....might see Neville, the twins, maybe Evans? Not even sure United has a youngish team this year...guys like Smalling might see significant time too....this is going to be a good one. Kinda wish DeRossario and LanDon :goodposting: would play big minutes, I know DeRo is going to get a huge nice reception here....but being that these guys all played, I think a token appearance at most.

Raúl signed with Schalke today.

Sami Khedira has reportedly reached an agreement with Real Madrid.

I think Real made out a bit better on the balance.

No the deals had nothing to do with one another.

It's not as if Real was weak in that position though. They still have Lass Diarra (they let the other Diarra go). Add in the "all but done" Maicon deal, and I still don't get what Real is doing unless they're moving Sergio Ramos to CB. Jose Mourinho is smarter than I am, though.

From what I've read, Maicon is staying at Inter. The Khedira move is for the future, not this season.
