And it's the former Arsenal man, Jose Antonio Reyes, who puts Atletico in front.
My boys just picked up another former Arsenal player in Fran Mérida on a free transfer. I really don't know anything about that guy but it didn't seem like he saw the field much for them.
He's still very young. There's no shame in being the third best teenage MF on the team when the other two are Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey.

Yeah, young guy who never really got in the game with the crowded lineup. Still looked somewhat impressive in the few matches I saw him get first team action. He never particularly impressed me, but he didn't look out of his league or in over his head.2-0 Atletico now.

UEFA Player of the Year's PK stopped by a 19 year old goalie.

Hopefully this win (and the performance) will give some confidence going into the la liga season. It's always nice to start off with some hardware.

It's pretty obvious that Atlético have the talent to play with anyone. I understand that Inter didn't field their starting XI, but they did have some key pieces. Maybe los colchoneros wanted this game more. In any case, my expectations are high to start the season, and looking at their roster, they should end up no lower than 4th, or at worst 5th place. If Barça or Real (or both) falter they have a very outside shot at the title, but that's unlikely to happen. Raúl García, Simao, Reyes, and their defense would have to have an outstanding year, especially Godín and Perea (who needs to learn how to stop fouling people needlessly).

I guess I'm just happy that they were able to keep el Kun, Forlán, De Gea, and Asenjo.

USL-2 Championship Match on FSC tonight at 6 eastern.

Charleston Battery v Richmond Kickers .... Go Battery.

If you're watching, I'll be standing in front of the stands at midfield opposite the side with the players. We usually have a group that watches the game from there.

Oh my...pretty buildup on this Walcott goal...one and two touch passing - Song to Arshavin to van Persie to Walcott for the perfect finish.

Chelsea defeat stoke 2-0 with goals for Malouda and Drogba (Penalty). Both players have been on fire to start the season. Chelsea still have not relinquished a goal this season.

I'm happy for Athletico as well, but just note that the window is still open until Tuesday. I don't think the supercup game cup ties any of these guys, so they are still in play for the big clubs.
I'd be shocked if any of them left, especially in the wake of that win over Inter. There are rumors that el Kun is about to sign a new 3 year deal with Atlético.

Watching a DVR of United/West Ham....Spector got totally smoked by Giggs and dragged him down for a PK....which Rooney converted.

:scared: for the USMNT.

My wife asked me today, "Who is Jay DeMerrit?"

I laughed and told her that he plays for the USMNT. She said the name randomly popped into her head.

Barcelona loan Ibra to Milan

I think it's safe to say the Ibrahimovic signing has been a colossal failure for Barcelona. Too bad - I always thought he was kind of funny.
This is a tremendous signing by Milan, who once again capture a superstar talent at a fraction of his original value. Ibra is only 28 and is still one of the most skilled players in the world. Barca never needed him, and probably shouldnt have signed him in the first place - certainly not for 70 million Euro (I think it was something like 45M Euro AND Eto'o). But make no mistake, Ibra is still one of the very best in the world. Hes both a lethal finisher and very skilled with the ball at his feet. I personally dont like the guy, but his talent cannot be denied. And despite his lengthy, Chirstian Vieri-esque resume, hes still only 28 and should be playing at Milan for the next 4-5 years at a high level.Moving forward, I think this makes Milan very dangerous. A front three of Ibra flanked by Pato and 'Dinho will make them very difficult to defend. Not sure about their midfield as Pirlo, Ambrosini and Gatusso are getting long in the tooth, but they should certainly be more entertaining to watch than the middle-of-the-table teams of the last several years..

Its a shame the USMT is still the only team he can claim to play for, with most of europe either underway already or about to start with rosters more or less set.

Battery lose a man late in the first half, but still win the match 2-1.Charleston Battery

that was glorious....I was sitting there and couldn't believe what I just saw :wall: Wolcott looked like a man possessed. He was involved in nearly every major play. That was a fun game to watch and nice Away win for the Gunners :banned:

Watching the replay of Blackpool-Fulham. Great environment by the Blackpool fans and the team played a brilliant game. They put pressure on the Fulham goal for most of the second half and were unfortunate to only draw. Great story so far this year.

Fulham getting important points on the road :blackdot:

Villa up 1-0 and have had several chances to put this match away. Im torn because I like both of these teams and both sides need a result. Luke Young with a cool curling finish off an excellent pass from Ashley Young.

Exciting stuff in this Everton game, but Everton just don't look a threat to score. They've been pouring on the pressure, but I just don't see the conviction in the final 3rd (and that's something I saw a lot with Arsenal last year). Someone needs to step up.

So City lost to Sunderland on the last kick of the game?

I fee so bad for them

LOL at City.

Also, La Liga kicked off today. 4.5 minutes into the season and Messi has already scored.

Getafe and Villarreal both dropped points today. Valencia, Sevilla, and Athletic all won games they should have won. Real Madrid plays later today, and my boys play tomorrow.

 Come on Blues.....you're starting just like last year. Don't do this again.....

They also added every American's favorite player, Kevin Prince Boateng, to their midfield.I definitely like the Ibra deal from a neutral standpoint... it will make Milan a lot more fun to watch and Barca isn't exactly crippled by it.

Second Fulham goal was pure class.
For you Dempsey haters, watch how he was busting his butt to beat his defender in case that shot was saved or came back off the post

:thumbup:didn't look like he started though... right? I caught him last week- got subbed out at 65 or so. Typical game for him, lots of cheek, lots of shots, and a fair bit of lagging. Considering he's supposed to be trying to impress a new coach, I'd figure he'd be busting his hump all game. That said, I'm still a huge fan of his.
