Inter to bid £40m for Gareth Bale

This number has been tossed around for some time, but I didn't realize how rare it was for this kind of payout.

There are clearly better players, but I think it speaks as to how difficult it is to find natural left midfielders/wingbacks with that kind of pace and potential. He's gotten exceptionally better just over the course of this season and he's still only 21.
 I don't think Spurs can turn that down.
Why not?Gareth Bales don't come along often. At 21, I really don't see the rush to sell him unless he wants to move. He's going to be amazingly marketable over the next few years if he keeps playing like this and it's going to net the club a lot of money. And the kid is still improving. If they miss CL, I can see a case can be made, but this is the unique talent that can break Spurs out of the middle of the pack to an upper echelon team. This kid can literally change the club's destiny and no amount of transfer money can be worth more. This is Alan Shearer at Blackburn. Don't do it 'Arry.
That's really what it's going to come down to IMO. There's just so much money riding on that CL spot.
I thought the same thing, but if Tottenham ever really want to have a shot again they have to stop being a farm team for the big clubs. At this point they have the talent to be in the top five for several more years. Even if they don't get a spot this year they are certainly going to be in the running again next year.Selling Bale would be so disappointing.
Yep. If your goal is CL, you have to make the transition from a selling team to a buying team.

Some random minor news from the Tweets

* Ricardo Clark will be out at least 4 weeks with a fractured jaw. Shame in that he has been playing well and getting consistent starts

* US is still planning to go to Egypt in early Feb but are monitoring the volatile situation in Egypt closely

* Donovan Rickets of the LA Galaxy has obtained his green card freeing up an international slot for the Gals.

* MLS announced that Houston has flipped to the Eastern conference to balance the two new expansion sides that will end up in the western conference. Both conferences now contain 9 teams. It seems like only yesterday when the entire league was only 10 teams. This may be only a 1 year move for Houston though with Montreal coming on board next year making the league unbalanced at 19.

* Twitter was a flutter with some cool rumors about Freddy Adu training with Sporting KC, at least until Sporting squashed the rumor.

Soony Saad, born in Michigan, was rated the top high school player in the land last year.

This year he won the NCAA freshman of the year award while finishing second in the nation in scoring and helping U Mich to their first ever College Cup (final 4).

Soccer America is reporting today that Soony has left U Mich to go to Germany to try and catch on with a team there. He has played once for the U20's and scored in his only appearance. Ives thinks he is a very very good player.

The roster for the US Egypt game ( assuming they still play) will be announced next week and is expected to be heavy of players from European clubs.

Michael Bradley to... Galatasaray?

BERLIN — German media is reporting that United States midfielder Michael Bradley is on the verge of a move from Borussia Moenchengladbach to Turkish side Galatasaray.

Borussia director Max Eberl said Friday: "There is an offer for him which the club could live with and which is acceptable. Now it's up to Michael to sort his things out and reach an agreement with the club."

Bradley has scored 10 goals in 76 league games for Moenchengladbach since joining from Dutch side Heerenveen for €2.5 million ($3.43 million) in 2008.

He has made 50 appearances for the U.S. national team.
That's a strange landing spot for him. GS has strong history and just opened a fancy new stadium, but they're currently 7th in the fairly mediocre Turkish league.

Crap, I was really hoping for the move to Sunderland.

United news and notes

Park Ji-Sung has retired from international play after his 100th cap.

Patrice Evra gets his 1st France call-up since the World Cup dibacle.

United target Ajax GK Maarten Stekelenburg as replacement for VDS.

Haven't seen this confirmed anywhere and that initial report says on the verge. But with all the hand wringing about this, GS is a good club and there are certainly worse places to live than Instanbul (one of my favorite cities in the world tbh).

Craziest fans in the world too.He could do a lot worse- especially if they qualify for CL. If not... he could do better, but doubtful that he'd have as much talent around him, possibly... ever.

:lmao: :goodposting: :goodposting: I wouldn't sell him or Modric for any price honestly. Lennon is almost untouchable too at this point. These guys are a LOCK for top four with this squad imo.

I was being a little more selfish. I'd like to see him play more often.

Wow. Totally forgot about this. Not the best of timing. There has to be actually a lot of precedent for this situation (international friendly or even a qualifier game where the country is in serious turmoil). While FIFA tries to keep the politicians from meddling in affairs of the National federations, what has usually happened on these occasions?-QG

Me too, gb. EPL or Serie A would put him on FSC semi-regularly which is waaaaay better for us fans. And he's one player I feel would do fine in either league.

Based on nothing more than my foggy memory, it seems to me they usually find a neutral, and safe, spot to play. Or just bag it. I hope it's the former.

btw, I've really grown to dislike Ramires as well. He makes 4-5 ugly fouls a game, usually because he's a step too slow, not malicious like, but then he goes to ground, holding his face, on stuff like that when he runs into Fellaini. I'm not saying running into the big guy feels good, I'm just saying he of all people should refrain from the theatrics because he makes so many rash challenges.

However, I know I'm more forgiving of this kind of crap by brilliant players (Drogba, Iniesta, Robben) so maybe he just needs to play better.

excellent!gets to play with Friedl and hopefully helps them stay up. I mentioned it earlier in the tread in regards to how poorly they've been playing, but he is exactly the type and position of player they really need to help shore up their defensive MF. This makes sense for both parties, and we US fans will get to see him play!

Bayern München v Werder Bremen on Gol!
Bayern with the 3-1 victory. Goals by Robben and Klose with an Own Goal from Mertesacker. Mertesacker also scored Bremen's goal.Bayern now up to 3rd in the table only 3 points behind second place Leverkusen. Dortmund is running away with first and currently 11 points ahead of Leverkusen.

That PK call for Bendtner... kinda soft.

As a neutral, sucks to see the game decided on that call. (btw- I agreed with the Red)

 Phil Dowd awards 2 PKs to Fulham in a span of 3 minutes, including a straight red to Michael Dawson, and Murphy buries em both to give Fulham a 2-0 lead vs. a 10-man Tottenham in just 14 minutes...

Looking to update my Fifa rosters. Is there a good site that just lists the transfers in an easy to read format (no other stories; no rumors; just transfers)

Well, it looks like tomorrow is the day Torres leaves. Pretty bumbed.

Don't want to see Anelka at Anfield....40mil and Kakuta? :lmao:

Some "news" coming out that Henry is looking into spending some of the 50mil by snatching up Adam with an increased offer and called Lerner in regards to Ashley Young(doubtful).

Torres OUT

Suarez IN

Adam IN

Young IN

I'd take that....
