Edu scored in in Rangers 2-1 win over Motherwell in the Scottish Cup semi's.

Rangers will meet Celtic in the Cup Final
very nice strike from Maurice yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-wDhV9KgRk&NR=1
That really is a fantastic goal when you take into account the distance and that he struck it with his off foot.
And a great song by The Specials on the stadium PA to celebrate. Why Bradley ever started Clark over Edu will bother me for all my days.
Maybe if Edu would ####### stay onside/not foul 8 different Slovenian players on one run, he would've seen more PT

Torres and Luiz both signed 5 1/2 year deals with Chelsea today. This is great - feels like 2004.

Sunday is going to be a crazy day for me - Scousers at Stamford Bridge in the morning with Torres wearing the blue and the Packers in the superbowl a few hours later.

NEW YORK (January 31, 2011) – MLS Commissioner Don Garber, along with LA Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan and New York Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry will discuss a major soccer announcement on Tuesday, February 1, at 3:30 p.m. ET. The announcement will be made at 10 a.m. ET on Tuesday at www.MLSsoccer.com.

Audio of the teleconference call will be streamed live on www.MLSsoccer.com.

WHO: MLS Commissioner Don Garber

LA Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan

New York Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry

WHAT: Media teleconference discussing major soccer announcement

WHEN: Tuesday, February 1, at 3:30 p.m. ET

=========================================================================

I can't figure out why Landon and Henry would be a part of this outside of just having two high profile players in front of cameras.

Might be an all star opponent, might be a new TV deal... no idea really. The schedule has been delayed for ever and that may point to TV issues.

This is so out of control.

It is official. David Luiz has transferred to Chelsea for 25 million pounds. Nemanja Matic is also involved in deal.

Chelsea just spent more money in one day than MLS spent in its first 15 years as a league and likely its next 15 years as a league.

Just mind boggling.
This occured on the same day the club reported a £70.9m loss in the year to June 2010 - despite winning the Premier League and FA Cup.
Are they going to be potentially running afoul of the financial fair play rules? I'm not exactly sure how those work, but I'm pretty sure they frown on teams losing money and at the same time throwing it around like that.
I don't believe those regulations come into effect until 2012/13. The big clubs will figure out some way to cook their books by then.
I believe I read this year was figured in somehow?

The word in the Twitterverse or Twittersphere or Twitternet or whatever was that the summer transfer window would be affected by them.Found this on some blog:
Fair play criteria will become mandatory from the beginning of the 2013/14, when the Club Financial Control Panel can start pronouncing sanctions against clubs based on financial statements from the 2011/12 and 2012/13 reporting periods,

The rule sucks anyway. It just gives a huge edge to teams that own their own television rights. It was basically a giant gift to teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Inter.I fully expect teams in more competitive leagues where television profits are shared to cook the books and see if UEFA is really willing to try and force top teams out of Champions League

United, Arsenal and Chelsea all win. Arsenal and Chelsea both went down early but came back to win.

United led from the beginning with a welcome back by Wayne Rooney, 2 goals, 1 assist.

edited to add: March will get interesting with United playing back to back vs Chelsea and Liverpool plus a CL game at home. Chelsea is home for this matchup, not sure about Pool.

I was reading in the last day or two that the Rusky owner of Chelsea (Romanov or whatever) transferred the outstanding debt for the club into shares and then bought them himself. I could be wrong about any or all of that- but my fuzzy memory thinks that's what I read.

I've run into a computer/video problem, and maybe you guys can help.

Whenever I open a video file through a website, the image screen comes in green, with no visual. I can hear the video fine, and I can see the time scroll bar moving along- but the screen stays green. Youtube, Yahoo, prtty much every video.

And this happens whether I use Chrome or IE.

Gotta be a setting of some kind that needs tweeking, right? Help!

You got me. When something like that happens to me I usually just buy a new computer.

I think you're right. I had heard he was going to pay for it out of pocket, but I didn't know how exactly he would go about it.

He's got the ponytail of an IT guy.

Soony Saad, born in Michigan, was rated the top high school player in the land last year. This year he won the NCAA freshman of the year award while finishing second in the nation in scoring and helping U Mich to their first ever College Cup (final 4). Soccer America is reporting today that Soony has left U Mich to go to Germany to try and catch on with a team there. He has played once for the U20's and scored in his only appearance. Ives thinks he is a very very good player.
He is from my hometown of Dearborn, MI. The kid is amazing- never seen anything like him. He will make the National team and has a chance to be the scorer we have desperately needed. He was the Gatorade Prep Athlete of the Year, as a frosh at UM he led them to a Final 4 (UM's soccer program is no powerhouse). He has left UM and rumor is he will sign with Bayern at 18.

This guy is for sure an American international, right?

Yeah, he has played with American U-20 Team. Born in Dearborn, MI- birthplace of Henry Ford. Don't get any more American than that.

I'm still waiting for Bloomberg to do that with NYC.

Flops, it sounds like your Flash player got sent off for one too many "professional fouls".

Try reinstalling Flash. Download the newest version from Adobe.

If that doesn't work, go with the good counselor's advice.

Charlie Davies will be joining DC United for a week long evaluation. If DC determines he is fit they will then commence with a 12 month loan of Davies. The loan deal is set pending the evaluation.

He is expected to arrive at training camp in Florida tomorrow.

Garber really played down the Cosmos today at the press conference about the all star game.

He said while a 2nd NY team was a priority that the Cosmos were just one of many groups around the country the are listening to for team number 20.

He basically said what we all have been saying. It's nice to see them getting the media attention but until they have real financial backing and a real stadium plan they are not very promising.

Ives tweeted that Bobby Wood has been promoted to the first team at 1860 Munich. Wood is a 19 year old striker with the US U20 National team.He has worked his way up from the U17's, the U19's and U23's on the 1860 Munich sides to get to the big club.Wood was previously a star for the strong Irvine Strikers of California before moving to Germany at age 13.
Bobby broke his professional cherry this past weekend as a late game sub.

Doesn't necessarily mean he'll be a US international at the senior level, he could still switch to a different nation, FWIW. I don't know anything about him, though, and don't know if he'd even be eligible for someone else.Regardless, are we sure a move directly to Bayern is a good thing? I sure as hell hope he gets loaned out somewhere if he does go there...

Wait a sec- Joe Rossi... sorry- Giuseppe-... moved to Italy when he was 13. Yeah- growing up in NJ, he might as well have been living in Padua. This Wood cat- is he going to piss me off in a couple of years when he decides he's German?

Of course he's going to poo-poo the Cosmos as not being a favorite, otherwise the other competing teams would pack it in right now.

They can take so much in losses the next few years, but it's not 100%, I don't think. I'll have to look up the rules again.

I can see where he is coming from. With no real money behind the team this seems to be a pipe dream. Many assumed it would be the Wilpons that would come on board but they are having their own financial issues at the moment.

It is the way of the global soccer world now. MLS will allow US to gain a player like Mawanga but our growing youth talent who goes overseas will cause us to lose players. It's going to happen many many times over the years unless some new rules are put in place.

It is very early to say. Rossi was embedded in a pro environment at a very young age. Soony has not yet had even a single pro practice. The kid is obviously skilled. The key will be playing time. Selfishly I hope he chooses playing time at a much smaller club instead of getting stuck in reserves with a bigger check from larger club. To be fair he is going overseas probably because the generation addidas deal was not enough for him.

Saad's ancestors are Lebanese so there's probably not much of a chance for him putting on a Lebanon shirt (hopefully). It took Cacau 8 years to get German citizenship and appear for their national team.I suspect the US is the front runner for his services unless a country like Qatar makes a run at him.
