oh Dane Brekken, I so wanted to like you. Why?
LOL. What's up with the burro?
I was thinking more about the poem-tat on his side. Is that better or worse than Beckham's tramp-stamp?
Pablo and Cobi and Landon probably all wish they were Brek compared to these embarrassing shoots (what in gods name was Pablo thinking???)http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2002/05/23/magazine/26fash-slide6.jpg

What an impressive year so far for Seattle. First team through to the quarter finals of the CCL. Still in the Supporters Shield race, US Open Cup winners.

And they should get better next year when Zakuani comes back. They will need to replace Keller but other than that, they are relatively young.

There must be something about Montero's game that is not liked by European scouts. I am surprised no team has taken a chance on him.

Scouts and US announcers. Every time I watch them play, whoever does color bemoans Freddy's lack of interest in most of the games. Again, one of those things that shows up live more than on the TV screen, where he always looks like one of the most skilled and dangerous guys on the field.

Good and deserved win for Seattle though. Also glad to see that they'll be back to represent in the CL... gotta say, as well as LA have been playing, it's frustrating to see them play a home game and have their fans get out-cheered by the opposition's.

Sounds like this may be another player we could lose to another country. He has grown up in the US and been in the US system from the earliest stages but he does not have his citizenship.

U.S. high school star Mendiola to sign with Man CityU.S. Soccer Development Academy's Player of the Year in the U-15/16 division, Raul Mendiola, is on the verge of moving abroad to England.Mendiola told TopDrawerSoccer.com on Tuesday that he will be traveling to meet with Manchester City this weekend with a view to signing a contract with the Premier League club. The 16-year-old Mendiola is currently based in San Bernardino, and plays for Alta Loma's Arsenal FC youth club team. The diminuitive 5-foot-5 playmaker is considered the top prospect among the U.S. boys club player rankings in the U-17 category.

Someone needs to hook him up with a US-citizen beauty queen or something so he can get his green card.

City? really? I'm sure the kid is good and all... and I dont know much about the City academy or how they do promoting their own players... but just seems like a good place to go and shrivel up on an bench/reserve-side full of a never-ending rotating group of world maybe-someday superstars.

The burro, the distant, pensive supermodel stare, the bible verse ribcage tat, the constant hairstyle changes. I liked this guy the few times I've seen him play, but really have no faith right now that he's got what it takes.
Luckily this type of crap never hurt Donovan. I still don't know how he takes a picture like this and not realize that something is amiss (this is different from the one that hurt Floppo's eyes above)http://dartmouthindependent.com/images/uploads/blogs/cache/world-cup-blog-425x300.jpg

By the way, not that it matters, but the Shea picture with the donkey is not new. I think it was taken last year. Big Soccer had a laughathon type thread with it when it first came out. It was for some sort of Veterans charity

Ives think it is the, getting way to old, ploy of agents trying to squeeze a few extra bucks out of new contract for aging stars by pulling out the "MLS is interested in him".....Ignoring the fact that he would likely be way too expensive for Chicago for what he could ever return on the business side of the game.

caught most of the 2nd half of Akron v UCSB... neither team on the same level as UNC, IMO- but both show flashes of good attack. UCSB's 2nd goal was a pretty stunning bit of skill/creativity by the scorer if anybody can find video. UCSB has a left back... dunno his citizenship- but he looks good on both sides of the ball. :bookmark:

Oct 15 with be Kasey Keller's last regular season home game of his long career. Seattle has opened up the entire stadium and have sold as of today 55,000 tickets.

Only 6800 tickets have been sold to the US Honduras game on Saturday.

Unless they have a decent walk up crowd, Sun Life stadium(capacity 75k for soccer) is going to look terrible.

Both George John and Omar Gonzalez are openly talking about playing for another country (Greece and Mexico respectively).

That would put a serious dent in our center back depth.

Of all my years following soccer in this country, I feel this one has been the best attendance wise across the board

MLS is having by far its best year ever attendance wise.

The WFC this summer had great attendances almost every game

The Gold Cup had great attendances

And this fall, almost every week another college is setting a new attendance record.

But by all means, lets keep calling Orozco-fiscal into camp
Yeah, this is all that keeps running through my mind as well. :( . If we lose either of there guys because Orozco-fiscal is chewing up a spot, I will be very disappointed.

 Yesterday espn3.com had Germany v Turkey as one of its matches for today, now it isn't listed and I can't find it online.

Saturday Night Fever would probably make my top 10 for the year if we were including soundtracks.
wrong thread.... unless this is another all freddy adu is all black people type of thing. (great soundtrack though- and it should count, IMO... unreleased prior to the album IIRC).

Good lord where is my life going? I still remember this clear as day, waiting after the game was over until we knew for sure they had qualified unexpectedly that day and then getting to celebrate with the team after most had left the stadium. . This was ten years ago today.

Look, Landon almost had a hair line. :D

I have only a passing interest in the Euro '12 qualifying games being played out today....however, one interesting development was Wayne Rooney received a straight red today and will miss the first two games of the tournament. I haven't had a chance to see the play yet, but that's a pretty massive blow for England.

73 min: WAYNE ROONEY SENT OFF!!! A completely deserved red card for this eejit, who miscontrols, then hacks Dzudovic's right leg from behind in a fit of totally needless pique. It's a highly comical slapstick moment, with a sort of boot-up-#### comic timing that should be soundtracked by a swannee whistle, but that's about all I can say in favour of it. He'll miss matches at the finals, should England get there.

Next January's African Nations Cup will have a strange look about it. Traditional powers Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa and Egypt all missed out on the finals. Ghana and Tunisia are the only ex-winners among the sixteen finalists.

Bob Bradley watched Egypt's 3-0 win over Niger from the stands. Egypt fielded a U23 team but Niger still qualified for the next round on goal differential over Bafana Bafana.

ETA: AFC Wimbledon got a late winner to beat Morecambe 2-1. Four League 2 wins on the trot puts them up to third.

Getting close to the US match today...really looking forward to it.
it has been piss pouring rain down here in South Florida for close to 24 hours and it doesn't look like it is going to let up by game time. The already low attendance that they were expecting is not going to be helped by a walkup crowd. that kind of sucks because the USMNT have not been down here since 1998. Sparse crowds here for this crowd isn't going to make them come back anytime soon. Was going to pickup a couple of 2 for 1 Groupon tickets until I realized it was going to rain all weekend. Was looking forward to seeing the men's team for the first time with my 7-year old. We will just have to catch it on tv today.
