I thought Evra looked unusually mad- and with such a directed anger- at Suarez. Figured it was from an uncaught dirty little hack on him by Suarez... but if true, this is ugly...

Associated PressLONDON -- The English Football Association has launched an investigation into allegations from Manchester United's Patrice Evra that he was racially abused by Liverpool striker Luis Suarez during Saturday's Premier League match.Evra, a black French defender, was quoted as telling French TV station Canal Plus: "There are cameras, you can see him (Suarez) say a certain word to me at least 10 times."English football's governing body said in a statement: "Referee Andre Marriner was made aware of an allegation at the end of the fixture and has subsequently reported this to The FA. The FA will now begin making inquiries into the matter."Liverpool told The Associated Press: "The player categorically denies the allegations."United did not immediately respond to a request for comment.Javier Hernandez salvaged a 1-1 draw for United after Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard scored on a free kick.
That would end up being a massive ban. He does crap like this though. I think he was serving a ban in Holland for biting some guy when he moved to Liverpool.
I'm obviously biased, and will admit that I'm wrong if proven to be true, but:A) Isn't this like the 5th or 6th time Evra has claimed racial abuse from opposing players? Have any of them ever been found to be true? (I'm asking here because I'm not sure.)B) Evra speaks what? French and English? I've only heard Suarez speak Spanish. Maybe he has learned English, but I've never heard him speak it, and I know he doesn't know French.I'd be real surprised if this was anything other than Evra showing just why he is a dooshnozzle.
Wait... what? You are going with he doesn't know any racial slurs in English? It's certainly possible he didn't say anything, but let's not be absurd.I really don't like either of these teams so I could care less about the result, but you and Gator are coming off badly here. Both of these guys have histories of being dooches, but Suarez takes the cake. Have you ever seen the video of him biting the guy's ear? Anyone that has seen that has to know this guy is capable of just about anything.
:goodposting: I speak a little bit of two languages besides English but can swear in about 20.I've seen Evra play a ton over the years and have never- no hyperbole- seen him act the way he was acting during the game about and towards Suarez. I had figured it was just Suarez's play- which i actually like when he's not diving/embellishing- because he plays defenders hard and always on the edge of fouling, that had Evra so upset. I also saw Suarez give Evra a cheap kick off the ball, so thought there was more of that going on that I couldn't see that was causing friction.

Just saw a tweet that stated only Barca, Bayern, and Madrid had larger crowds than the Sounders this weekend, I know most soccer stadiums aren't as big as our football stadiums but that is still pretty cool.

Levante with a nice 3-0 win against Malaga today. They are the surprise package this season for sure. My Atleti drew 0-0 again this week. Didn't get to see the game but I'm disappointed that they couldn't score.

ETA: stupid autocorrect doesn't like the names of spanish teams

How has Diego been?
He started off very well, being creative but he hasn't linked up well with the other creative force in Reyes. It seems like right now they are individuals with talent playing well enough but not with a team focus. Diego has impressed from time to time, and overall I think he's been a good addition.I know he started this week, although I didn't see the game. I'll let you know how he palyed after I watch the DVR.

When you factor in what Seattle pays for the total team salary, it would not surprise me if they had the best average attendance in the world per team wages.

:lmao:So, I started off by saying I would admit I was wrong if it was proven to be fact, then offered two pretty good reasons why it was PROBABLY false. You give your OPINION that proves to you that Suarez is a doosh, which proves it to be fact to you, and Gator and I are the ones coming off badly here? Hilarious.

:goodposting:

I didn't even defend Suarez, just called into question Evra's past with these allegations and HIS character. Not once did I say Suarez didn't do it or that I thought he didn't. Not sure how you can honestly look at one guy's past and not the others.

Very good game between Lazio and Roma yesterday afternoon, not quite as good as Spurs/Newcastle, but still well contested.

Jonathan Klinsmann has been added to the US U15 camp roster. He is JK's goalkeeping son who plays for the Irvine Strikers (one of the top club teams in the country typically).

Final week of CCL group play. Maximum of 4 MLS teams can get to the knockout stage, minimum of 2 MLS teams.

Two games concerning MLS teams tonight.

1) Seattle hosts Monterray. Seattle is already through and will likely be starting an entire reserve side. If they some how don't lose, they win the group.

2) Dallas hosts Toronto. Winner goes through. If they draw, it highly favors Dallas but they stil need to wait for the other game in group as one scenario does see Toronto through. No matter what happens, one of these two teams goes through and one does not.

Oh boy. I thought we got rid of the cronyism with Bradley. ;)He's 15. I don't really care.
I think, but not sure, that he is younger than 15. He was with the Under 14 side in June of this year. But yeah, more to your point, this is a non story. Just posted out of general interest.

You could give me an hour and I could not come up with the correct pronunciation of this city :)

U.S. to play at Slovenia in Ljubljana in November

CHICAGO (AP) -- The U.S. soccer team will play at Slovenia in an exhibition on Nov. 15, a rematch of their meeting in the first round of last year's World Cup.

The game will be part of a two-match European trip that starts Nov. 11 against France at Saint-Denis, outside Paris.

This will be the first trip for the U.S. to Slovenia. The U.S. Soccer Federation said Tuesday the match will be played at Stozice Stadium in Ljubljana.

In the only meeting between the nations, the U.S. rallied from a two-goal deficit for a 2-2 tie last year in Johannesburg, getting goals from Landon Donovan and Michael Bradley.

The Americans are 1-3-1 under new coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

Are any of the Fox Network of channels showing the Bayern - Napoli match? I looked through the listings and didn't see it live or on replay.

You mean you'd rather watch that than Otelul Galati and Manchester United? What's wrong with you?FSC is showing Bayern tomorrow morning at either 8 or 9.

United throwing out a very strong lineup

Lindegaard

Evra/Smalling/Vidic/Fabio

Valencia/Anderson/Carrick/Nani

Rooney/Hernandez

expect some goals here.

If we don't show well in Europe the pressure is really going to start to mount on JK.
I disagree. Although I do agree that if the US doesn't show some quality in those games, a lot of long-time supporters will start getting restless. Pretty sure it's been pretty widely spoken by JK and Gulati that this is a time for getting things up and running in JK's direction. Friendly results away shouldn't interfere with that much, if at all. That said, given the slow start, I do think if JK doesn't do well in his first round (2 games) of WCQ- like losing both, or tying somebody miserably bad at home- that's when the keep-the-job pressure will start.

Whos watching United? Did Vidic deserve the red? Got commentary going and it says undeserved, esp since the no cards on fouls by OG on Nani....

Late tackle, left his feet from the side, hit him just below the knee. In slow mo it was not horrendously late by any means. 90% of time I would think it would be a yellow.

I don't think all the Shea speculation is healthy. It is almost too much. I think there are 15 teams linked to him.

Dirk Nowitkski even tweeted today that he was going to the FC Dallas game tonight to check on Shea before he goes to the Bundesliga.

I hope he ends up more in a league like Holland in the hopes he can play the next 2-3 years.

Thanks, just had the eurosport play by play and the commentators were calling the ref horrendous, esp since he hadnt given a yellow or red to OG going two footed from behind on Nani. Will have to watch later.Sounded like a sloppy brutal game and the ref missed it all.Anyway, 2-0 win and United can start getting ready for $ity and the darby!

Was a very harsh decision on the Vidic straight red, imho, especially considering the fact he had not been talked to previously about any dicey fouls, and the home side was a lot more careless with their challenges up to that point.

Vidic kind of flew, studs up to challenge a ball, and missed the ball, and on his follow through, clipped the opposing player. I would say definite yellow, but very difficult for me to call that a straight red, there was no real intent to harm, nor was there any threat to score. Of course you need take this with a bit of United fan salt.

United came out flat AGAIN in the first half, turned it on midway through and got the well deserved victory. Both PK's were deserved and well taken. The United defense was a lot better than it has been of late so that was encouraging, but this is against the worst team in the competition.

City salvaged their victory. I didn't get to see the Napoli/BM game, work was too demanding, although I did hear BM missed a PK in the first half, and that sucked because I had the over in that one!

Posted at 06:51 PM ET, 10/18/2011D.C. United’s Charlie Davies files $20 million lawsuit against nightclub and party host Red BullBy Steven GoffD.C. United striker Charlie Davies has filed a $20 million lawsuit against the owner of a nightclub and the company that hosted a party at which alcohol was served to the driver responsible for a car accident that severely injured the soccer player and killed another passenger. The suit, filed in D.C. Superior Court last week, names Das Enterprises, which operates Shadow Room, and Red Bull North America, the host of the private event on Oct. 12, 2009, at the K Street establishment. The companies are accused of continuing to serve alcohol to Maria Alejandra Espinoza, even though, according to the suit, she “became visibly intoxicated.”An initial conference is scheduled for Jan. 13.For more.....Espinoza, from Clarksville, Md., was sentenced in March to two years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter and maiming while driving intoxicated.Ashley Roberta, of Phoenix, Md., was killed in the accident. Davies’s injuries included a ruptured bladder, bleeding in the brain, and facial, rib, leg and elbow fractures. He returned to pro soccer last year and joined United before the 2011 season. The suit claims some of Davies’s injuries caused permanent disfigurement in the form of multiple scars and he will continue to face substantial medical expenses. It also says Davies “suffered, and will continue to suffer, great pain of body and mind.”In addition, the suit states, Davies was unable to continue playing for the U.S. national team, ending his hopes of competing at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Davies was a regular on the squad before the accident and hasn’t received a call-up since.Although he resumed his pro career, Davies wasn’t able to continue on the path that might’ve led to a major contract with a European club. He was playing for French club Sochaux before the accident occurred.United acquired him on a one-year loan in January and, according to the MLS players’ union, is earning about $250,000 this season. He is second on the team in goals with 11 but has struggled to regain the playing form that propelled his career before the accident. In a twist, Red Bull, the Austrian-based company that produces energy drinks of the same name, happens to own a team in MLS: the New York Red Bulls. United and New York are battling for the final playoff spot this week. The lawsuit claims Red Bull hosted the event at Shadow Room and ”had a duty to be aware of the provisions” in the District’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Act that prohibits the “sale or delivery of alcoholic beverages to ... an intoxicated person or any person who appears to be intoxicated.”Davies broke U.S. team curfew to attend the event, two nights before the Americans’ World Cup qualifying match against Costa Rica at RFK Stadium.“There is nothing that can restore the lost opportunity Charlie Davies had of representing the United States in the World Cup,” said Jon Pels, Davies’s Bethesda-based attorney. “It is a testament to his strength and athleticism that he is playing soccer again.“This is yet another example of how drinking and driving can kill and injure. Bars must accept responsibility when overseeing an event such as this.”Das Entertainment and Red Bull North America were not immediately available to comment.By Steven Goff  |  06:51 PM ET, 10/18/2011

He probably has a case, but what about his own personal responsibility? He broke curfew, got drunk himself and got into a car with someone who was hammered.

There's no question that he was harmed, and he'll probably win money, but it doesn't quite sit right with me.

I doubt he has much of a case in DC. DC doesnt have dram shop law and courts have only applied common law dram shop liability to liquor stores, not bars.

:bs: Bars serve booze. They don't make you drive drunk, or encourage driving drunk by getting in the car with you. Davies has himself more to blame than a bar tender at a crowded event slinging drinks for a living deciding not to cut someone off because they are too stupid to call a ####### cab. /rant

To me, that should be an absolute defense for the club/sponsor. It's one thing for an innocent third party to make a claim against the server. But a voluntary passenger is just as at fault as the driver for getting in the car in the first place.

I agree with you guys, I don't like this action at all on Davies part.

It would be one thing if Davies was driving home from practice or something but he is as responsible for this tragedy as the other driver IMO.

Toronto looks like they are going through. They are up 3-0 late in the game.

Well deserved for those fans starved for something to cheer for up there after supporting such a poor team since they came into the league.

Spain leads FIFA rankings, U.S. falls to No. 34

ZURICH (AP) -- Spain extended its lead at the top of FIFA's monthly world rankings on Wednesday, as 2012 European Championship qualifying group winners Greece and Denmark entered the top 10.

Spain won its two Euro 2012 qualifying matches this month while No. 2 Netherlands lost one, to Sweden.

Germany and South American champion Uruguay stayed third and fourth, respectively. Brazil rose two to No. 5 followed by Italy and England.

Greece rose three to share eighth place with Portugal, which lost to the Danes and faces a playoff to advance to the Euro 2012 finals.

Argentina, which lost a 2014 World Cup qualifier against Venezuela, is tied at No. 10 with Denmark.

Japan leads Asian nations at No. 17, and 19th-placed Ivory Coast is the best African country.

Mexico heads CONCACAF members at No. 22, and the United States drops three to No. 34. Former U.S. coach Bob Bradley vaulted over his old team, leading African champion Egypt up seven places to No. 29.

Montenegro fell 13 places to No. 39 despite reaching the Euro 2012 playoffs. Estonia at No. 59 is the lowest-ranked of the eight playoffs teams.

Wales used its two Euro 2012 wins to leap 45 places to No. 45.

Iraq rose 16 places to No. 91 after beating China in a World Cup qualifier, while Qatar, the 2022 World Cup host, rose eight to No. 92.

New Zealand, Oceania's best nation, did not play last month yet dropped 16 places to No. 104.

The rankings weigh all international matches over a rolling four-year cycle. FIFA took account of 136 matches in the past month, including qualifiers for the World Cup and continental championships in Europe and Africa.

I think that's even more unlikely. The common law precedent in DC flatly rejects social host liability. We'll see, but this is a very curious decision for Charlie. Because it's all common law, he can argue for a change to the law, but the precedent is really against this claim. And it's perfectly able to be disposed of on a motion to dismiss, because the precedent suggests that even if everything Davies says is true, there's no liability. There's absolutely no reason to even think of settling until losing on the motion to dismiss, and I think Red Bull (and whoever owns the Shadow Lounge) would win on that motion.

One MLS team in action tonight in CCL.

Colorado goes down to Santos tonight. They either need to win or have a draw occur in the second game tomorrow. Santos has already qualified, so there is a chance they won't play their full A squad.

interesting stuff.I don't know law, but it seems strange to base your case on Charlie knowing that his driver was getting plied with booze past the point of saturation/sobriety AND HE STILL got in the car.

Part of that depends on the tort law of the jurisdiction. Here again, DC's law is pretty darn bad for Charlie. Last I checked, DC is a pure contributory negligence jurisdiction. If Charlie's negligence contributed in any way to his injury, nobody else can be found liable (only five jurisdictions still have this rule, as it's considered pretty harsh). In other jurisdictions, it's comparative fault. If a jury found that Charlie was 50% at fault and accepted his damages theory, then he'd still be looking at a $10 Million judgment.Understand that plaintiff's lawyers are entrepreneurial animals. If I needed to hustle to round up personal injury victims, I might very well take a high profile case with bad facts to keep my name out there. So I understand the lawyer's perspective. Sometimes you take a high damages case with a low chance of winning. Like buying a lottery ticket. Charlie's perspective could be the same. I doubt the lawyer is charging him fees.

Nothing confirmed by US Soccer but Fernando Clavijo tweeted that Tab Ramos will get the U20 head coaching job and that Caleb Porter will get the U23 head coaching job.

We all know about Tab, but Caleb may be unknown to some. He played at Indiana University and had a quick cup of coffee in MLS.

He became an assistant coach at Indiana for a year and then got a great position at Akron University starting in 2006, in which he helped transform into one of best best programs in the country.

Akron was the team that had produced 5 of the first 8 players drafted in the MLS Superdraft last season.
