Pool could sell him back to Newcastle for £8m or something.
I read a terrific article (I believe in WSJ) about how LIV's plan was to acquire the league's most proficient passers from last year (Henderson, Downing) and team them with Carroll in the middle. Obviously, nothing much has come of that idea, but that was the plan anyway.
Especially since they've all pretty much sucked this year, with Downing being a slight exception.Sometimes this chick on Fox Soccer Report looks pretty bangable but she's dressed like a school marm tonight.

San Jose released new renderings today including adding luxury boxes to the stadium. These boxes are unique in that they will be at field level. Not sure how that is going to work but I will just need to wait and see. Here is some info and some picshttp://www.mercurynews.com/bay-area-news/ci_19429549http://www.mercurynews.com/portlet/article/html/render_gallery.jsp?articleId=19429549&siteId=568&startImage=1http://www.mercurynews.com/portlet/article/html/render_gallery.jsp?articleId=19429549&siteId=568&startImage=2http://www.mercurynews.com/portlet/article/html/render_gallery.jsp?articleId=19429549&siteId=568&startImage=3
Makes perfect sense. Build the expensive boxes right off the pitch. I have never understood why even rich people buy suites three levels up for NBA games and can barely see the players.
The Dallas Cowboys have field level suites. I'm not sure how well they sell in relation to the regular suites.
Seems like they'd be great if the players are not standing in front of them. Ideal would be 20 rows up.

Schoolmarm = more bangable.

Caught a Bundesliga recap at the gym today, holy #### do those crowds look awesome. A home team wearing yellow? Not sure who it was.

Which Bundesliga team should I tail?

I wonder if this is a simple working out trip like a lot of other MLSers are doing this month or a full blown trial. It's great news either way.
I think the media is getting confused in some cases between training and a trial. Klinsmann has set up a bunch of players in MLS to train with teams overseas. Like many other US based players, I don't understand how Agudelo could obtain a work permit for England. The rules are confusing.

this was the first game that I recall Carroll playing for a significant amount of time that didn't try to heave the ball into him from midfield ever other possession. they are at their best when their technical players can create on give and goes. pass the ball out if the back and stop with the long range stuff. they don't have the speed to get behind people. They need to pick and choose their chances to target him. more games like this with the first team and I still think he can fit in nicely.

This Lucas injury and the wait for the scan is killing me. Rumors from hyperextension to ACL going on. The dude was looking like an absolute stud DM. Seriously not sure what Pool does without him. Spearing looked sharp at times, but damn. We go against Citeh three time in Jan. in like a two week period.

Gerrard may be back by then, but I think he may have the real ball cancer this time. Even if he does come back I would not bet that he makes it through the season.

#### Chelski BTW.

And I still have hope for Carrol. Imagine how the plastic Chelski fans feel about Torres. The PK was a good idea gone bad. Would have given him some confidence, but he must be at his lowest now. Suarez needs to grab him by the nuts and pull him up in training. Something...

Bellamy has turned good and Coates is looking like a great find. Will Dalglish unleash the Maxi? Hendo and Downing look like they will turn good. Enrique was a great signing, too. Maybe sign keita in the Jan window and Spurs and Newcastle melt away. Top four with the scum on the way down, too.

Oh yeah, great game from Slur Alex's squad today.

YNWA

Lucas was dominating this year. If it's an ACL....man, feel badly for him. Not sure they have another natural DM there. Maybe Spearing, but he can't tackle like Lucas. Some of the tackles Lucas made this year were astounding.

Sprain- hold tough and fight through until getting him back

ACL- Get through until Jan. and bring in Moussa Sissoko...about time there was another Sissoko at Anfield :football:

FCB apparently kicking the tires on Ashley Cole and Gareth Bale. Villa might be out, and if they can get a good price for him, I think they should pull the trigger and sell while the getting's good.

I think it'd be good shtick if Antarctica got to submit a team in the Club World Cup.

It would be so cool to have an Americano playing for the Reds.I don't think Carroll has to go (because I don't know what we'd get for him now), but I'm on board with keeping him out of the starting XI. No idea why he took that PK with at least three better options on the field at the time. The only rational explanation I've seen is that Kenny was trying to give him some confidence. That backfired like a mother####er if that was the case.
Okay, maybe not "has to go", but I think they need a better partner for Suarez, definitely.
Carroll hasn't started enough for me to consider him a throwout yet. There is a great deal of pressure that comes with that price tag. Once he gets a good run of games and starts playing with confidence he could turn into the great center forward we hoped for. He was a great save away from having the winner against Citeh.
The little I saw of Carroll at Newcastle made me think he's more of a throw-back "English" target man than a guy who can play in the current continental style Liverpool currently plays. Put him up top by himself, knock long-balls and crosses in to him and let him win the ball in the air. Don't see him doing all that dippity-doing Suarez and pals are up to.

I guess I don't see it.If watching the game was about only watching the players up close, that would be one thing- but optimal seats have always been midfield, half-way up so you can actually watch the game rather than the players' pimples. You want to read their tats, watch it on your TV from your kickass skybox.

After doing a quick googly, it looks like andy is right. And I also found out that Agudelo was training at Stuttgart for a couple of weeks too.

Carroll had his run of good form for Newcastle last year playing as a lone striker in a 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1. Kevin Nolan played in a very withdrawn role but still managed to knock in a few goals before Carroll got hurt and Hughton got the sack..I don't know what LFC can do to utilize Carroll. I don't think he is adaptable enough to support Suarez and he doesn't fit in tactically with what the team is doing when Suarez is on the field. Carroll is still young and could develop but he doesn't seem very smart--he had a chrome Range Rover for gawd's sake. He seems destined to be the focus of a smaller mid-table club.

I had a dream last night that Floppo, my wife, and I were at a "community" meeting to discuss the design of the new SJ stadium. Floppo was railing at them for lack of creativity and vision, and then he turns and says, "my internet friend here very much agrees." in reference to me. I stumbled over my words and tried to explain that the stadium is too plain and boring. After the "special advisory group" broke up and the general meeting was going on, my wife pulled me aside and said, "who was that guy, and how do you know him?" I then tried to explain that Floppo was from the internet.

Why am I dreaming about a) SJ soccer, b) stadium design, c) El FLoppo.

BTW, I always imagined Floppo to be more stylish than he appeared in my dream. He looked like a mildly out of shape, middle-aged bald guy wearing a cheap sweater and chinos.

lolzand it's true... I AM from the internet.

There are LFC configurations that could work with Carroll. They got Adams and Henderson because they were near the top in "chances created." Carroll needs service. The problem is that Suarez is (by far) at his best when he has Kuyt to do dirty work for him. Suarez is more valuable than Carroll, so Kuyt is, by extension, also more valuable than Carroll. And of course, there are the reputed other issues ("Let the record show that the defendant made the drinky-drinky motion.").

:lmao: I agree with all of that, although I'd say Suarez is at his best when he's doing his own dirty work and has Kuyt getting even dirtier.

Lucad confirmed via tweeter that he's out for the season
The bad is that he was doing really well this season, and was really coming into the team. The good is that it gives Liverpool a chance to add depth at that position. I'm no European scout, but my extensive Football Manager experience ;) tells me that there are some quality DMs out there. Yann M'Vila, to the Courtesy Phone, please.

It's (Danny) Murphy's Law that a club like LFC with such a surplus of MFs will lose the one guy with the fewest internal replacement alternatives

Looks like the Venezuela game is at home in Arizona.

CHICAGO (AP) -- The U.S. soccer team will start its 2012 schedule with an exhibition against Venezuela at Glendale, Ariz., on Jan. 21, then play at Panama four days later. The games announced Thursday are not on FIFA fixture dates, meaning the U.S. will field players from Major League Soccer and Scandinavian clubs on winter break. The team will prepare with a training camp, most likely in Arizona and Carson, Calif.Getting ready for the start of World Cup qualifying on June 8, the Americans also are discussing playing a Feb. 29 exhibition at Italy, which would be on a FIFA date. The U.S., 2-4-1 since Klinsmann replaced Bob Bradley, is in a semifinal group with Antigua and Barbuda, Guatemala and Jamaica. The top two nations advance to the regional finals in 2013.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- D.C. United have decided not to pursue a permanent transfer for Charlie Davies.Davies played with United this year on loan from French club Sochaux. He started strong but played less as the season wore on, finishing with 11 goals in 26 games, including 18 starts.Thursday's announcement by the club opens several possibilities for the 25-year-old striker who returned from a 2009 car accident that nearly took his life.United could negotiate another loan for Davies and trade his MLS rights to another team, or he could return to Europe as part of a deal between Sochaux and another club.United general manager Dave Kasper says "conversations regarding Charlie's future are ongoing."

Looks like the MLS love affair with Colombian players is continuing. If this is the youth DP signing, then I believe it will make the 3rd father and son pairing to play in MLS. Good lord I am old :(

[MLS SPOTLIGHT] The news came in the form of a tweet from Portland owner Merritt Poulson: "Young DP player signed soon. world-class potential..big addition for us and league. turning 20 soon. no announce until ITC approved." According to reports out of Colombia, that player will be Jose Adolfo Valencia, son of former Colombian great Adolfo 'El Tren' Valencia, whose 17-year career included a two-year stint in MLS with the MetroStars. The signing of Valencia Jr. would make him the first player signed under MLS's new young DP rules that provide salary cap relief for clubs interested competing on the international transfer market for young players. The cap relief is $200,000 for players aged 21-23 and $150,000 for players 20 and younger. The Timbers already have two Colombians under contract: Diego Chara and Jorge Perlaza. The 6-foot-1 Valencia is 19 and plays for Independiente Santa Fe.His father played in two World Cups for Colombia and scored in its 2-1 loss to the USA at the 1994 World Cup. His career took him to eight clubs on four continents.

As a former student athlete this story is sad

SAN ANTONIO -- It was one of the most expensive lunches in the team’s history, when you factor in all the electronic gadgets and personal items that were stolen from rented vans while the players ate.“We lost 15 computers. On the computers was all their work. Classes and next week, we start finals I think on Wednesday ... clothes, wallet, I-this, I-that, everything.” said Jay Martin, head soccer coach for Ohio Wesleyan University. His team had just gotten off a plane and had not even checked into a hotel when the theft occurred in the 900 block of East Basse Road.Thousands of dollars in computers, cell phones, wallets, cash and clothes were stolen when thieves broke into two of the vans. In all, police said 20 college athletes were victimized. So, how did the Ohio Wesleyan men’s college soccer team react to being ripped off? They gave a little more of themselves. On the eve of the NCAA championships, the players held a soccer clinic for some of the sport’s biggest fans.“Daniel, Daniel, Daniel!” the cry goes up for one of Sam Houston High School’s special needs students. More than a dozen students took to the Starr Soccer Complex’s soccer fields to interact with OWU's soccer team and take turns as goalkeeper and striker.“It helps them spiritually. It helps them emotionally,” said Annette Jones, the team's chaperon. "And when we get back to school it even helps them academically, because they’re more inclined to work to get things done.”The athletes, many of them wearing borrowed cleats and sneakers, cheered the high school students on with high fives and chants of praise.Their stuff may be stolen, but their spirit is intact.Jones said that enthusiasm is contagious. It's the stuff of champions, no matter what the competition brings this weekend for OWU.“As you can see, they’re still full of high-spirits and they’re working with our students and they are awesome," she said. "And they’re going to be winners anyway.”OWU takes the field Friday at 5:30 p.m. for a semi-final game. Ohio Wesleyan University officials are flying in Thursday with extra game jerseys and items to replace those that were stolen.San Antonio police said the theft is still under investigation.

Not according to ESPN. The ball used in Euro 2012 is going to be the Tango 12 which has been completely redesigned from the one used in WC 2010. The guys on ESPN just did ten thrilling minutes on the new ball technology.
I'm just following online and this is what he said:"The bad news is it looks like a re-badged Jabulani, we all know how much controversy that ball caused at the World Cup last year."

I hope you're right though

I am 100% certain it is a completely different ball. But who knows what that means for the players. I could care less what the keepers think, every rule in the game already favors the defense. Here is info on the ball itself
