Gervinho was running around like a chicken with his head cut off, the way he was just giving away possession.
I see this a lot with him. I think it was the Chelsea 10 goal game where Song just got tired of feeding him the ball. On one of RvP's goals Song had Gervinho wide open to his left but said, nah...enough with you and fed the ball to a more covered RvP...who scored anyway. That's the game that his composure(or lack there of) really stuck out to me.

This site collects goals throughout the year and have chosen their top ten. We mentioned some of them already. I forgot about the Dos Santos goal in the Gold Cup final, that was a pretty neat one.http://www.101greatgoals.com/vote-top-10-goals-of-2011/128851/
THat one sucked balls.

Interesting time of year in the EPL- soooooooo many games on top of eachother, it's the time for the teams/players who need to win to step up above the exhaustion and fight for the results. Doesn't look like any of the top teams did so this year, with so many "shocking" results (none moreso than United's drop to Blackburn). City, United, Chelski, Spurs... they all looked they running on empty these last couple of games.

I'm actually really happy to see Fulham get some nice results in this stretch- Dempsey is raising his game when his team needs it the most, with some quality linkup play with Dembele and Murphy. That Sa guy is not good, and neither is their defense (especially in the MF) which concedes possession laughably easily around their box. Aston Villa also is seeming to put things together these days and could be an exciting team to watch if Agbonlahor can stay healthy.

Robin van Persie (Arsenal) (23%, 165 Votes)Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) (23%, 163 Votes)

Don't get me wrong, that RvP one was niiiiice, but Rooney's game winner has to win...no?

ETA: No offense tasker
Should be a slam dunk really.
Goal of the decade/century as far as I can recall (although I'm looking forward to you guys reminding me of some other doozies). A bike, in the closing minutes in a massive derby with title aspirations on the line... to win the game? Easy winner.

Looks like Becks to PSG is deadhttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/players/david-beckham/8989822/David-Beckham-poised-to-sign-extension-with-Los-Angeles-Galaxy-following-collapse-of-Paris-St.-Germain-transfer.html

Paris St. Germain confirmed on Tuesday that Beckham will not be moving to the French capital despite weeks of speculation that the former England captain was set to tie up a move to Ligue 1.Beckham is understood to have been put off by the idea of uprooting his family from the US and is now in negotiations over a two-year extension with the Galaxy, who he joined in 2007.Beckham has long been linked with a move back to Europe after it became clear that he wanted to move closer to England in order to boost his chances of making the Team GB Olympic football team.It is understood, though, that he has received assurances that he will be seriously considered for selection even if he remains in the MLS.Between 15 and 20 clubs have expressed an interest in signing the former Manchester United midfielder, including clubs from Asia, South America and the Premier League.

Eddie Johnson's work ethic strikes again. Good lord what a waste of athletic talent. So sad

[AMERICANS ABROAD] It seems that Eddie Johnson's Mexican adventure has ended before it really got started.Multiple outlets in Mexico reported Monday that the former U.S. international has been jettisoned by Puebla for lack of fitness. Released by Fulham last May after being loaned out several times, Johnson, 27, began training with Puebla on Friday.“He arrived under the condition that we would take a look at the player, as he hadn't played for a long time,” Puebla spokesperson Hugo Fernandez said in a statement released to several media outlets. "He didn't pass the test in three training sessions … and he's not staying."The club has turned to other possible acquisitions as it prepares for the start of the Clausura season at home against Atlas on Sunday. Johnson had been contacted by Puebla at the behest of U.S. midfielder DaMarcus Beasley, who joined the Mexican team last summer and scored two goals in 16 matches as Puebla finished 12th overall with a 6-7-4 record.Johnson has 12 goals in 42 U.S. appearances. He played three international games in 2010 but failed to get a spot on the World Cup roster and wasn’t utilized last year. If he wished to rejoin MLS, the league would have to decide if he’d be assigned a club through the allocation process – as is usually the case for U.S. internationals -- or go through a weighted lottery, as Lee Nguyen did Dec. 15. Vancouver, one of six teams to participate in the lottery, acquired Nguyen's rights.Johnson played for FC Dallas and Kansas City from 2001 to 2007 before MLS transferred him to Fulham for 3 million pounds (about $4.6 million) in January, 2008. He scored two goals in 65 league appearances for Fulham, Cardiff, and Preston North End, and has been a free agent since last summer.

Ives tweeted about this yesterday as well. He speculated either USL or NASL for him (he was serious, as far as I know). I don't understand how someone could fall from the top like that. Guy was, at times, a very formidable MLS striker and looked to be making a name for himself internationally for the nats.I still maintain that he is the single worst player I've ever seen when it comes to off-ball awareness, though. I'll take that to my grave.

Rob Stone as moved from ESPN to Fox where he will become the lead studio host. Wynalda will shift from lead studio host to lead studio analyst. He will be a part of numerous shows on Fox.

His first assignment will be hosting the first ever live telecast of an EPL match on broadcast tv when Man U and Arsenal meet as the lead in to the NFC Championship game.

I said the exact same thing after watching him play live a couple of times- uncanny how horrible was without the ball at feet. No idea whatsoever of when or where to make runs. Not sure if that was a fitness thing or just a :duh: thing... assuming the latter.Hate to say it, and I say it with massive caveats forgiving age and experience- but I've been almost as frustrated watching Agudelo play live. I never heard anything about it in the media, but if you ever watched the BullStars play you could practically see Henry seething at Agudelo's inability to make the right run and at the right time.

Not sure about that PK to Yaya....But City was always going to win this thing.
At first I thought it was Skrtel that knocked the ball away and I was pissed. First replay showed Yaya knocked it out, Skrtel never got the ball and only got a slight touch on him...but a touch is a touch.

For you guys who understand coaching. Can this off the ball running be taught or is it more god given like having field vision?

IMO, the off the ball stuff can be taught. HOW they do it is more of a Tebow given/natural, imo. You cna teach a kid to make runs, if has the natural instincts to find the soft spot he'll excel more than the kid who's runs are always mistimed or poorly ran.

I think many of these things we treat as "instinct" can be taught. But it's like learning another language...you have to learn it when younger or you'll never be a natural. You'll always have a hesitation (or an accent). But, yes, a smart kid with good coaches can be taught this stuff IMO.

Absolutely these things can be taught... at least to a degree far better than what EJ showed day to day. He'd routinely watch a MF or Fullback dribble the ball to wing while he stayed motionless up front in the middle of the field- the whole stadium is yelling at him to make the run to the same sidelines to give that player an option forward, but for whatever reason, he'd just hang out in the middle.Agree totally with what Gator said about the nuances of it- and there are other factors too. Is the guy fit enough to keep making the runs? Is he selfless enough to keep making them even if he's not getting the ball or is creating space behind him? The guys providing the balls also need to be proficient at putting the ball in the right space for the guy making the run- sometimes that ball forward can help initiate a guy's run either into space or showing back, before they even know they need to make the run.eta: fwiw, I was FAR better at seeing the space for a pass than seeing it to make a run myself. that, and I was a lazy *******.

Not sure how much longer it will be there but it appears the wind really carried this one....

Tim Howard Goal
Here's a new linkThat thing really took off.
Jeez, what a killjoy. By the look on his face you'd think he'd allowed the goal.
He addressed this in the post-game - said it was an "awful" feeling for him to score one like that.

It's the fraternity of keepers - I would imagine most professional keepers would hate to see a goal scored like that. That ball took a crazy bounce when it hit the turf.

George John and Omar Gonzalez have been given permission to leave national team camp to deal with "club-related matters". Rumors are that John is in Europe finalizing a transfer deal and Gonzo is working out a loan deal.

They have been replaced with Brad Evans and Jeff Parke (Tim Ream is getting married this week).

I expected John and Gonzalez to be the starting center backs in these friendlies. We might see Parkhurst and Cameron now.

Just announced that Gonzo has been loaned to FC Nurnberg through mid February. Nurnberg is also interested in purchasing him out right come the summer.

Yes, I started Timmy in fantasy today lol

Of course I also started Phil Jones, yikes.
Sure, but you had Krul on the bench, and he outscored Howard in goal
Timmy still has a second game this week which might add to his score. Having Spurs and Everton players in your lineup this week gives you an advantage over most week in which players only play once.
I've got 3 spurs in the line-up and switched my C to bale - but I was not even thinking about who they played in the make-up game - not enough transfers to have added anyone from Everton anyways :P

MLS appears to be closing in on a key Generation Adidas signing in Junior Flores. He would be a fun addition to the upcoming SuperDraft even if he is likely a year or two away from being ready. He was the standout player for me in the recent U17 games we saw a couple of months ago.http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/soccer-insider/post/major-league-soccer-courting-us-under-17-star-junior-flores/2012/01/04/gIQApWc5aP_blog.html
I thought he was getting interest, and returning interest, from/to European clubs?

I have read the same things. Will be interesting to see where he lands. Won't matter though because anywhere he goes he is still 18-36 months away from being ready in all likelihood.
