Was sledding with my daughter and I missed the game this morning on Fox.

How was the studio show? Did they set the sport back to 1991 again like they did last year during the Champions League Final or did they treat it like people actually know the sport?

I liked it Piers Morgan pulling no punches on Wenger - all football talk.

Yeah it wasn't too bad. Stone was alright but called them "Tottenham Hotspurs" at one point. I still don't like Wynalda, but he was fine. Piers Morgan was the highlight. Overall much better than last year's CL pregame.

cool. Last year was very disappointing to say the least. Thanks for the info both of you..

Arsneal with numerous chances to equalize in the second half. Van Persie sailed the ball wide on what had to be one of the easiest goal opportunities of the year. Wide open.

City avoids two easy red cards for dirty play and get a miracle in the end. How completely absurd.Tottenham have a tough schedule coming and that is going to be hard to get over.
:sadbanana: Going to have to fight hard to hang on to third now.

Memo to Sir Alex - hi definition is not your friend.

Random guru notes.....

First, United :towelwave: Just a great away win for a team that could use some confidence. They totally abused the Arsenal left flank, I am disappointed with just the two goals, but a win is a win. Though this one could be costly, Jones, Nani and Rooney all dinged.

Bayern decided to extend their winter break, losing 3-1 first game out. Dortmund looked good.

Messi with his 5th hat trick today, of this year ffs. Just ridiculous. I'm a pretty big Barca hater, but it's tough to deny their greatness.

I think Serie A may be the best/most competitive league from top to bottom this year. Inter was crap at the beginning of the year, but with their win today vs LAzio, and last weeks derby win vs Milan, they are really looking great. Ibra hat trick today...but my boys from Juve have a chip on their shoulder and are proving themselves the team to beat. It's going to be a fantastic 2012 in Italy....Napoli is falling back a bit, but they are still alive in CL play and they are a dangerous team with some highly skilled attackers.

Okay, back to England...Chelsea drawing with Norwich has just about shot down their title hopes. Looking to me like it's only ManU/City coming down the stretch. Spurs had a great opportunity today, but just a disheartening ending for them. I hate last minute penalties, although this one was probably deserved, but still.

Speaking of Spurs, it's going to be interesting to see who acquires the talents of one Gareth Bale. That young man is just a phenom. One more year at WHL and then I think he's gone. He wants titles, and titles are not going to be won with this club, just not deep enough. I expect big bids from Spain, and at least 1-2 English clubs, we shall see.

And Liverpool is just a mess right now. And Fernando Torres, OOOF. I think a transfer to France would do him good tbh.

That's about it for now, tune in down the road for the next installment of rambling thoughts.

I don't see what clubs in Spain would have the € to buy Bale. Real has basically unlimited funds, but I don't think they want him. When was the last time they bought an English player? Beckham?

Why France for Torres rather than Spain? He wouldn't be going to Real/Barca, but I bet a number of "upper-middle" table dwellers would love to have him.

I think there's a lot of teams that would want him on loan. Sevilla, Athletic, even Atlético would take him back. A loan for the rest of the season might just be the ticket for him.

There's been talk that PSG wants him, I believe.
Well yeah, I thought he was just making a general statement though. France would be good for him, I think...a true chance at a fresh start in a league he's never played in. Sometimes that change of pace can work wonders....

What? They're building a strong nucleus and are in third right now. Assuming the get into the CL again and actually spend the money this time, then who knows in a year or two?

re Torres - yes, PSG has a strong bid out for him, and I think he's lost his confidence completely. I also think there would be a ton of pressure returning to Spain - and he has even lost favor on the national side, I just think going to CL level French side would be a good move for him, a fresh start.

re Bale - I think he ends up in Barcelona or RM in 2013 or so. And Spurs have a nice side, but they do not have an elite side, nor do I think they can compete with the big boys. I don't know why you think they are going to spend money, I just don't think they will. And don't count on Harry being around for long. I can see him jumping ship for the England job if offered.

One other thing to keep an eye out on, I am hearing chirps that Hulk may be on the move. He has a ridiculous buy out clause, and it may not happen this transfer window, but maybe in the summer. I think he moves before Neymar.

The media and some of us liked the performances of the US center backs and it looks like Klinsmann did as well. Hopefully we get to see this pair again on Wednesday as I don't expect Panama to play as dead as Venezuela did, especially being at home. If Panana press them, it should give us a much better indication of how they would perform in a qualifier if needed.

Turning to the US national team, among a handful of notable performances in Saturday’s 1-0 win by the USA over Venezuela was Houston Dynamo central defender Geoff Cameron and manager Jurgen Klinsmann was showering him with praise: “We asked him to guide the back line, together with Michael Parkhurst, to push it high up, and to kind of develop his [passes] and play his [passes] straight into midfield and even into forwards. We’re impressed at how he’s doing that. We knew he had the talent to do that, but then to implement it is another story … He did that tonight.”

I think the deal moving Neymar to RM is nearly done. Moving Bale to Barca or RM is nothing but pure speculation IMO. Spurs have every reason to make him one of the highest paid players in the EPL. Explosive, match winning players that play for a British side don't grow on trees. Spurs should make CL this year and the $ commensurate with that. I have a feeling that the Spurs management can convince them to try and make a challenge to United for the second best team in the EPL in 2012-13 season (City IMO are simply #1 in talent right now). Even if Redknapp leaves, I think they can bring in a name that would make the players happy.Furthermore, Barca isn't the right fit for Bale for a lot of reasons, namely there's no need for him in their side in the next 2-3 years. RM is a better fit since his streaky wing play would fit with the technical, speedy counter attack that they have going right now. CRonaldo would be a good role model for him to emulate (taking on multiple players, able to score from nearly anywhere with exceptional range, leading a counter attack from the wing, tracking back and making good tackles to break up an opposing counter, and generally instilling fear in the other team's wing backs and defensive midfielders). But RM already has CR7, and the addition of Bale wouldn't be worth it IMO.

Chels paid £50m for Torres one year ago and he has 4.5 years left on a contract that pays £180,000 per week, or about US$9.5 mil per year. I don't know if he's for sale or not (as Ancelotti claimed last week), but if he is, the list of potential buyers is likely very short imo.

PSG has the Ancelotti connection and is backed by Arab oil money, so are one of the few teams on the list.

The confounding issue is that Chelski will have a dearth of stikers in the coming months due to ACoN. They need Torres (or someone) to play up top.

They can't win the league and are five points clear of Arsenal (6 of Pool) for the fourth spot in the table. That's not exactly a comfortable cushion, so this is an important factor. However, they have just 3 league games (Swansea, ManU and Everton) and the FA Cup game vs QPR between today and the end of the ACN. Lamps and Sturridge are scoring most of the goals and they still have Lukaku (African descent but is Belgian). Mata and Ramieres are attacking mids, so I think they could make it work, but in the end I do not expect Torres to move this winter.

He's a young, iconic player. He's worth a lot more to Tottenham than he would be to any other team. They aren't going to sell him until 2014 (a year before his current contract ends) or he forces a transfer.Amazingly, he was shopped to City for 4M just a few years ago. I couldn't even imagine adding Bale to that talent pool.

The Bundesliga gets cranked back up today with Bayern at Mönchengladbach. On Gol TV at 2:30 eastern.

Any rumors on a possible opponent?
