On Fegie beeing a tool face about saying that Suarez needs to not play for Liverpool again;

Cantona assaulted a spectator. Giggs ####ed his sister in law. Ferdinand dodged a drug test. Keane ended Haaland's career on purpose. Evra led a strike against his manager in the World Cup and attacked the Chelsea groundskeepers. Keane walked out on Ireland over a slice of pizza. Rooney shagged prostitutes. Bosnich did cocaine.

Suarez didn't shake Evra's hand and scored after lying to his coach saying he would. Oh and fired a ball into the bench area after the halftime whistle

No need for the edit.

I never defended Suarez, and called him out for being selfish in not shaking hands.

Just showing what a hypocrite Fergie is

How about a direct Tevez for Suarez swap?
I think it's unlikely he is in the EPL next year. Lying to Dalglish and consequently letting him hang himself in front of the media was probably the last straw for Liverpool and I don't see him going to any other English club unless it's really on the cheap. They will retain more value sending him to Italy or Spain.I don't think Tevez will stay in England either, but for different reasons.
damn. outside of this incident- and aside from his stereotypical S American diving etc- what else has he done to be banished? Or is that enough? Seems to me that he plays balls out and w a ton of skill when he's on the field.
He lied to his club and manager. He had told everyone he would shake hands and be done with it and then Dalglish gave an interview after the game assuming as such where he made a complete ### of himself. Obviously finding out afterwards that Suarez decided to go back on his word.I don't really have a good handle on how the EPL, racism, English culture, etc. all mix, but I have family in London so I get a bit of an insider's view. This is a big deal over there. The level of contempt for this guy outside of obviously Liverpool fans is apparently off the charts and the club is under a lot of media and apparently political pressure.

Like I said, I can't really wrap my head around how soccer, politics, and society are entertwined in England (or how they deal with racism to be honest). This whole situation doesn't make sense to me, but I would be surprised if he was still there at the beginning of next season.
And he did that after the club had his back(rightly or wrongly) 100% of the way.

no problem, just having some fun with all this. But what coach isnt going to defend his players and call out the opposition that has wronged his boys? Ironically, Cantona assaulted a spectator who racially abused him.And maybe Suarez will someday be half as good as the players listed above... well, probably already better then evra. :boxing:

Any Wolves fans? McCarthy is out. Hate to see that, but only because he was so entertaining on his interviews.

Too bad. He was fun..
:goodposting: I've always been partial to him and Big Sam. Don't really love how they get their teams playing- just like the personality style. ALso a fan of Martin O'Neil's sidelines excitement.

And I'm sure we'll see McCarthy somewhere else in the Prem sooner than later.

I think O'Neil is schizophrenic. He goes bananas on the sidelines all game and then promptly gives an interview where he appears to be heavily sedated.

I was happy when Pool signed Suarez even though I thought the play in the world cup was bush. I have watched all the games he has played in so far and he did something to pizz me of EVERY GAME. Now I have been a coach almost half of my life so I look at playets different than regular people but this guy is trouble. I have seen him give KG trouble after removing him from a match at least twice and one was really bad. He makes poor decisions on the pitch and then screams at an official like its their fault pretty much every ten minutes. He will take every shot himself no matter how far out or how covered he is. Even when teammates are wide open next to him or in front of goal he shoots, misses, screams down ref. I hate this player. He make ruined Kuyt also being so selfish.

To make a basketball analogy, Suarez reminds me of Carmelo Anthony. Suarez is really talented, and he can generate a scoring chance out of seemingly nothing. But I don't think he helps Liverpool generate more chances, because the ball stops with him. The "offense", as it is, consists of him trying to beat 2 and 3 men and then taking a shot or making the killer pass. And when it comes off it's great and he looks like one of the best players in the world. When it doesn't come off, he still looks "involved", but he's essentially rendering his teammates useless. I think that if I were a professional, I'd hate playing with him.

ok then- I haven't noticed the selfishness above and beyond a prototypical 1-man target forward looking/needing to generate chances... but I'll look more closely if he get's more time this year (and he should). fwiw- I still love his workrate on both sides of the ball- he makes great runs, always finds the seams and kills himself on defense.

Anyone watch the Fox Soccer Report last night. They showed one the little kids brought out with Aston Villa stiffing the little kid brought out with Man City in the handshake. Totally awesome. Think of the children, Luis!

Rangers are going into administration, per Soccernet:

Scottish Premier League champions Rangers have served notice that they are to go into administration.Rangers are still awaiting the outcome of a tax tribunal hearing that could see the club fined up to £49 million and, though owner Craig Whyte had said recently he would fight the possibility of administration, the club have pre-empted any decision on the case by announcing their intentions to the Court of Session in Edinburgh. The court said that solicitors lodged the papers on behalf of the club's directors on Monday lunchtime, with the paperwork officially confirming the club's "intention to appoint an administrator".Over the coming days, Rangers will discuss the situation to determine whether they can reach an agreement with creditors. Should they fail to do so, they will officially be placed in the hands of the administrators and docked ten points. An SPL spokesman said: "At this point in time, Rangers are not in administration and we await developments. The instant that they are technically in administration there will be an automatic ten-point deduction and, perhaps of less relevance, an embargo on player registrations."If administration is confirmed, as we have done previously, we would be looking to work with the administrators and would be looking for a very early meeting."The HMRC tax tribunal is centred on the use of employee benefits trusts (EBTs), which were in place before Whyte took over from Sir David Murray last May. Whyte, who bought Murray's shares for £1 and pledged to pay off £18 million of debt to Lloyds Banking Group, has seen his short tenure shrouded in controversy.Last week former Rangers chairman Alastair Johnston revealed he had asked the Government's Insolvency Service to clarify "certain financial arrangements" relating to the takeover of the club. Whyte had earlier admitted securing funds from loan company Ticketus in lieu of future season ticket sales.Johnston told the BBC: "Rangers' stakeholders are now demanding full transparency. I have had numerous approaches following the recent revelations in the press about the acquisition of Rangers Football Club and the use of future season ticket money."I am not in a position to answer all the questions put to me, but I do recognise the issue is causing much concern."I believe this is a prevalent view amongst Rangers' stakeholders who are now demanding full transparency about the funding of the acquisition of the club, its current financial status, and most importantly, the way forward."Rangers were crowned champions of Scotland in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and their 54 league titles make them the most successful club in the world in terms of domestic championships.
good lord what a mess European soccer is (outside of Germany). It is like no one cares about debt or balancing the books.
:goodposting: can't believe this is Rangers we're talking about.
It is official. 10 point deduction. won't affect them too much for Champions League qualification as they are still 9 points clear in second

Good stuff here. Watch out for the stomach punch in the last paragraph :(

World Cup bonuses, employee salaries listed in U.S. Soccer Federation tax documentBy Steven GoffFormer U.S. national soccer team coach Bob Bradley earned $400,000 in bonuses over a period encompassing the 2010 World Cup, raising his compensation to almost $1 million, while captain Carlos Bocanegra earned the most among the players during that time with almost $350,000.Bradley received a base salary of $515,647, plus the bonuses and about $26,000 in other compensation and benefits, according to a 2010-11 U.S. Soccer Federation tax document that became available this month. Although the bonuses are not specified, they presumably were rewarded for guiding the Americans to first place in the group stage and passage to the round of 16 in South Africa. The previous year, Bradley’s bonuses for advancing to the 2009 Confederations Cup final and qualifying for the World Cup totaled $345,000.As previously reported here, Juergen Klinsmann, the new national team coach, received a base of $2.5 million annually through the 2014 World Cup. The incentives for World Cup qualifying and other events haven’t been disclosed. The U.S. players were also well compensated for World Cup work and other assignments between April 2010 and March 2011. Based on formulas spelled out in the collective bargaining agreement between the players’ union and the USSF, Bocanegra earned $347,583 for match appearances, team performance and other categories. Michael Bradley was second at $345,782, followed by Landon Donovan at $342,989 and Tim Howard at $339,388.The previous year, the top earners received about $150,000 apiece.National team players are on salary with their respective clubs around the world, not with the USSF, which issues performance-based payments. For example, Donovan made $2.3 million playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy last year, plus national team earnings. The USSF is required to list compensation for all officers and the other top-paid employees (in this case, 10 overall). Besides Bradley, who is now coaching Egypt’s national team, and the four players, secretary general/chief executive officer Dan Flynn received $603,803; managing director of administration Tom King $244,605; general counsel Lisa Levine $198,802; chief administrative offer Brian Remedi $190,489; and chief financial officer Eric Gleason $189,213.Flynn made $583,544 in 2009-10. Sunil Gulati, the USSF’s president, is not paid.Details of compensation for women’s national team coach Pia Sundhage were not listed. Other USSF documents show Sundhage’s base salary of $190,000, with a $20,000 marketing guarantee and unspecified bonuses.Other noteworthy items in the USSF’s 2010-11 tax document:*More than $2.8 million was spent on expenses in sub-Saharan Africa — the World Cup and a U.S. men’s friendly in South Africa in late 2010. That figure includes airfares, lodging, meals, ground transportation, etc.*Almost $4.5 million of federation money was spent on the failed World Cup 2018/22 bid. In addition, the federation received between $3.5 million and $5.5 million from grants and donations to apply toward the effort for a total of $8 million to $10 million.

Not the most exciting start to the CL games today. A couple of big underdogs packing it in defensively.

Arsenal/Milan tomorrow should be better

Screw you guys, I'm going to the Brazil/US game with my wife.
I'm planning on begging my wife to let me go, but she's on a big fiscal sanity kick.
I can front you the cash. I'm also going to Vegas for a conference next week. I can make some wagers for you if you'd like.
Jesus...I need to move to Baltimore....
That's a rare statement heard these days.

I'm watching the Barça / Osasuna game. Barça looks like a shell of its former self. No midfield, minimal touches for Messi and a bunch of breakdowns on defense.

Both of the first two goals were deserved and Piqué should be ashamed at getting beat like that. Props to Osasuna for taking it to Barça from the get go. High pressure and not giving an inch of space in the midfield. They are really missing Xavi, Iniensta, and Cesc in this game.

Suarez is such a little #####
this.I love the way he plays, which makes it suck to see the (albeit typical for a S American) diving/whining/play-acting/histrionics antics. But how he's handled this racism thing, from what I understand of it, has been immature and antagonistic. Ok- you've said something that somebody else finds offensive... you can either say "oh- sorry, I didn't mean to offend you and I apogize if it did- won't do it again", or act like an 18yo boy who's just hurt his gf's feelings and then blames the girl for feeling how she does "Hey- I didn't mean anything by it, so you have no right to be hurt". If he had just done the former- which from what I understand he hasn't- this would have been as diffused as possible, but he didn't. The yanking his hand away nonsense before the game- idiotic. For that matter, the Liverpool fans booing Evra still makes no sense to me and comes across as poor class- you're upset that that guy has made serious claims against your player who then gets suspended by the FA after an investigation? Then boo the FA, not the player. Even worse was Chelsea fans booing Rio Ferdinand for his brother's accusations. Ugh. The whole thing.

but re: the game... Valencia and Welbeck have looked very good, Gerard too. Interesting game to watch for all the MF and positional battle, even if there haven't been many chances.
Not surprising. You're talking about a fan base that not long ago taunted Spurs with "Ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss" during games.

Donovan needs to stay at Everton.
I don't see it. Everton is not going to qualify for Europe nor are they in any danger of relegation. As such, Landon is significantly more valuable to LA than to Everton which is going to make his fee likely much too high for Everton to afford extending him till the end of the year. If Everton were in shouting distance of qualifying for Europe I could see Everton trying but even then it does not make any sense for LA. LA already said no to Robbie Keane's extension. With LA not only about to start a new season but also about to enter the knockout rounds of the CCL, i think they are very likely to hold on to Landon.
Donovan needs to stay at Everton for Donovan.

Henry's last match (possibly ever) for Arsenal will be this afternoon against Milan. He will return to NY after this game and not be available for the FA Cup 5th round this weekend like Landon will be.

I watched the Leverkusen v Barcelona match yesterday and the outcome was never really in doubt.

But, in the second half it was nice to see Leverkusen actually come out and play. They had several good scoring opportunities and it sure made the game entertaining.

Landon spoke out recently on his Everton stay and his possible future with club.

"It would be hard to go to any other club now so if anything were to happen I would imagine it would be here at Everton," Donovan told Reuters in an interview."I know for sure this year I'm going back to LA but we'll see," added the player who grabbed assists in the recent surprise wins over Chelsea and Manchester City."My commitment is for two more years to the (MLS champion)Galaxy and we'll see what happens after this year ... but I would obviously welcome the opportunity to come back.""There is no question that as you get older your desirability to European clubs diminishes," he said."But I still think I can perform at a high level and I think that if guys are doing it at 36, 37, then I hope I can still be doing it at 32, 33."
He also mentioned in same interview that he hopes to be one of the three overage players chosen for the Olympics.

"I'm not scared of Arsenal," Boateng told The Sun. "The problem with Arsenal is one day they play amazing football and then they play really badly. In the end they don't have balance. They either play unbelievable football or they don't know what they're doing."It comes down to inexperience. Arsenal don't know what you have to do to win titles - they're always close but they break down. The players are young, hungry, but don't know how to break this target. Without the experience it's difficult."There's always something missing at Arsenal. That bit is the experience - we have so much of that at Milan and that is what they need."
