The US U17's will be playing Italy in the round of 16 on ESPN360 at 10:00am.

The US recovered from the Spain loss to get 6 points in their last 2 first round games.

I read a week or so back that Toni may be headed to West Ham in the Jan transfer window. Is there any truth to this? I ####### hate West Ham, but like Toni. It would be interesting to see if he could do anything in the Prem. My guess is he would be flop, but he is apparently do nothing this season anyways.

Not on ESPNU though, so i couldnt tivo to watch later :kicksrock:
I have not seen a game yet.Has anyone impressed you on the US? I heard Luis Gil has looked ok.
Gil is good, and a year younger than the competition. He's got potential if he gets to a good spot (like Arsenal's youth system).I like the left back (i think his name is Polak) quite a bit. He's got a great work rate, defends well and can really cross the ball. He's an asset on FK's as well if you need someone to take a left footed kick. There is definitly some attacking talent on this team. They have ability. But in the end, their "creative" play still looks coached. When you watched the Spanish attack, you can tell they were basically born in cleats. The US appears to be getting away from the "robot" syndrome, but its still not on the same level as the international powers from what i saw.edit: also, the US kids dont finish like their european counterparts. They blew 2 wide open breakways in the Spain game

Thanks for the info. Here is an article about Gil and his prospects indicating that he may go to MLS after the U17http://www.yanks-abroad.com/get.php?mode=content&id=5472

I"m a fan of the game, but I have no idea who the Tractor Boys are.
Ipswich Town FC. They were in the Premier no too long ago and then fell into administration. They were a pretty strong side in the early 70's, too. Winning the FA. They have a pretty decent history. Sir Bobby Robson was their coach in the glory days. One of the sweetest tunes ever. Much better than the Superbowl Shuffle.

The Chaaaaaaaampioooooonnsssss
Solid 4-1 win today for Arsenal. Kinda a cruise control victory...first goal from Fabregas was weak, and the rest of the goals were kinda due to poor marking as AZ were pushing guys forward. Fabregas' second was really nice.Standard upsetting Olympiakos means that Arsenal haven't quite clinched a spot in the next round yet (10 points vs. Standard's 4 points in 3rd place), but it's all but secured now. A single point or a single loss/draw for Standard and Arsenal are through, at least.

Bayern go down 2-0 to Bordeaux in Munich. Things looking bad for Bayern.
When things look bad, remember it could be worse. You could follow Liverpool.
:stab:
I've lived and died with Liverpool for SIX WHOLE MONTHS. I feel the pain.
:thumbup:Babel... that appearance was a nutshell of what that kid brings- pace, ability to go at goal, ability to do everything wrong over and over and over. Great goal- but how many very good opportunities did he waste by being either selfish or useless.

Just read this comment on the BBC ticker covering the Europa Cup:

From Ozyakup, Botelho, Freeman, Nordtveit -The Future Is Arsenal on 606: "Clint Dempsey has to be one of the biggest bargains ever pulled off in the Premier League. A poor man's Ronaldo, really."

Is anyone watching this game?

And the defending champs are out. Not sure what the hell happened. I turned away after seeing they were up 2-0 and had the aggregrate lead; next thing i know it is 2-2 at the half. awful crowd, too.

i'd like to root for the sounders now, but i won't. the union doesn't need any more pressure coming into its first year than to have this year's expansion team win it all.

Good news:

Chelsea Transfer Ban Suspended until the CAS renders its final decision - meaning they will almost certainly be able to participate in the winter transfer window.

Also, not that anyone enjoys seeing great players sidelined, but it is now certain that Rio Ferdinand and possibly also Vidic will miss Sunday's huge game at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea could go five points clear of Man United with a win at home. If Rooney is in form, these teams are arguably equal up front, but Chelsea's midfield and back four are significantly better that what Man United has available these days.

Why wouldn't Rooney be in form? And right now, Chelsea is better up front, way better in midfield and way better in the back (United gave up three ####### goals to CSKA Moscow :lmao: )

Rooney is fantastic, but has no one else up there to help. Berbatov is thankfully hurt, Valencia and Nani are great running up the wings, but :lmao: after that.....could get ugly this weekend.

I'm sure Rooney will be fine, but just thinking with the new baby at home he might not be entirely focused. In any event, a great opportunity for Chelsea here so I hope they don't screw it up.

He's been practicing the arms-swinging-back-and-forth-cradle goal celebration since the wife's 2nd tri-mester... I'm sure he'll be up for the game.

DMB sighting!

Played the entire 2nd half in Rangers' win, and made the pass to the guy who had the assist on the game winner.

DMB folks.

Back on the USMNT radar if he can keep getting quality minutes in Scotland?

might have to be back on the radar. If Donovan moves up to striker to replace Davies, they have to look at all possible options on the left wing.

AND Patetico de Madrid allows 3 more goals at home to the hated "other" team from Madrid. The first 3 were scored by Real, so they likely took the foot off the gas.

The entire defense needs to be reworked. They are beyond incompetent.

Now looking like Vidic and Berbatov will start at the Bridge tomorrow.

This should be such a great game... but I can't help but feel that Chelsea will blow this one out. 3 or 4- 1

Chelsea passing is awesome all over the pitch......except in that final 3rd. Kudos to the ManU Defense for stopping some pretty tough stuff.

Wow... great game by both sides through 2/3 of the field. Attacking 1/3 looked too nervy by both: Drogba trying to do WAY too much by himself (he completely forgot about this buddy Anelka, who had a nice game), Rooney not getting any help from somebody/anybody slicing through. But Rooney- wow- just amazing every time he's anywhere near the ball- his ability to get to space, win the ball, hold the ball and either turn or release a team-mate... incredible. Giggs looked out of sorts up front- great work defensively though.

Too bad it took some iffy reffing to really light a fire under both squads. And too bad the goal came after one of those iffy calls and not from open play. But full credit to Chelsea who, IMO, were just slightly the lesser team on the day but still earned the 3 points.

US roster for friendlies. Looks like they'll be trying out a bunch of defenders. Not really sure why Hejduk is included. He was horrible this weekend.

GOALKEEPERS (3): Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Marcus Hahnemann (Wolverhampton), Troy Perkins (Valerenga)

DEFENDERS (9): Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew), Heath Pearce (FC Dallas), Jonathan Spector (West Ham)

MIDFIELDERS (6): Michael Bradley (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Benny Feilhaber (AGF Aarhus), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Dax McCarty (FC Dallas), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew)

FORWARDS (4): Jozy Altidore (Hull City), Conor Casey (Colorado Rapids), Jeff Cunningham (FC Dallas), Eddie Johnson (Fulham)

Torres, Castillo, Donovan, Holden, Ching, and Clark all have league games. Kinda lame. Not sure if Torres/Castillo will be available for Denmark but it'd be nice to get a look at Castillo.

Beat me to it. I wonder who gets the start next to Bradley. Also somewhat surprised by the Eddie Johnson sighting but if everyone was available he probably wouldn't be there.

I'm kinda suprised by Dax McCarthy... looked great at the under 20 level, but I haven't seen that much from him in MLS. Yeah- he's pretty good there, but I've never seen a game with him in it where I thought- yeah- USMNT.

A little suprised by EJ (who looked ok the one or two times I caught him get minutes for Fulham this season), and more by Casey. Do we really need to see more of him? Is he seriously the answer up front for the US? IMO, nope. I don't see that Casey needs to get more minutes at this point when we could be working Dempsey or somebody new up front. I hope I'm wrong, but Jozy+Casey isn't going to strike much fear into anybody. Has anybody seen Gabriel Ferrari play? Sounds like he's getting decent PT in 2nd division Italy... mebbe even Seria C.

Seems pretty apparent that the roster was greatly influenced by who was readily available (and EJ probably volunteered to pay his own way). I'd like to see Cunningham get the starting nod with Jozy actually.

Hejduk brings an experience and energy that make him a decent roster filler for SA. Does he deserve that spot? I dunno, but he was actually quite good in early qualifying (I hate to admit it but it is true). Would we take 5 full backs (Bornstein, Spector, Dolo, Castillo)? That seems like a lot of roster space on the position but I guess you need to know who #5 is in case of injury and your options are probably between Pearce or Hejduk so they both make this trip.

Also, I think Dax could be a decent sub. He is relentless in the games I've watched. Skill may not be there but I can see him being a good tactical sub who brings energy and pace late.

I dunno why I always thought Cunningham was Caribbean... I don't remember the 10 or so caps he earned with the US. totally agree about wanting to see him start with Jozy. IIRC- his game is kind of a controlled, but speedy type- smart vision and ability to take guys on. Not as explosive or strong as Davies, but quick feet and smart on the ball- could be a nice pairing with Jozy.... or am I thinking about somebody else?

Cunningham was born in Jamaica and moved to the US when he was 14. He actually appeared for Jamaica in one friendly before switching to the US.Interestingly his first cap occurred way back in 2001.

I was playing yesterday (missed just left, then just right, then the one I put down the middle got blocked) so I didn't get to watch the Liverpool game. Only read about it on Soccernet when I got home. Really wanted the dive to be a non-dive, but there's nothing you can say about that other than "pitiful". I would rather Liverpool have lost than take a cheap point like that.
