Rafael and Valencia are just owning that right flank. more of the same in the second half.

I think United would be best served getting Rooney off at half too. He's gimping around, and just going to aggravate his injuries more. Bring on Berbatov to lend support in the middle and let Nani and Valencia run wild down the sides. On the horn with Fergie right now/

i really, really hate having a job and not being able to watch the day games live. not checking this thread when i get home is close to impossible for me. i tell myself all day im not gonna look, and yet here i am.

What a roller coaster game to watch. Bayern's defense keeps digging them holes and Robben, Olic and Ribéry keep bailing them out.

It's ugly, but I'll take it.

Robben's goal was a thing of beauty. I don't think I've seen a ball struck so perfectly in the air. To advance his team nonetheless. Wow:

:goodposting: Stunning goal!!!
What an incredible strike, to take the ball out of the air like that and hit it the way he did - wow!
All the more amazing in that it seemed to be exactly what they were trying to do. I'd say that particular set play, the corner to the "uncontested" player at the top of the box, has a less than 1% chance of ever working. If it isn't volleyed, it's blocked every time. The volley has to be perfect, and even then I'd say it's blocked more often than not.

Rafeal getting sent off was mind boggling. Completely changed the game. Horrible.
Not sure of your take on this but as a neutral observer, I thought his first yellow was ridiculous and bordering on red and the 2nd was pretty much a no brainer. You can't pull a guy back like that over and over. It can't be seen as anything but intentional. I'm not sure what the ref is supposed to do there. Rafael needs to control himself. He didn't. Of course, SAF blamed it on pressure from Bayern: "Young boy, inexperience, but they got him sent off." Like he didn't do anything lol.

I actually was thinking "what a horrible corner" when he hit it but I think you are right that it was planned. How good do you have to be to even try that?

Ribery and Robben make for one of the best duos in Europe. So much pace and skill down the flanks.

Sweet black uniforms as well.

I'm really looking forward to this match...maybe more so than last weekend's. Btw, am I the only one laughing at Real? The best player (IMO) on two teams in the CL semis were both in Madrid last year. Maybe the Dutch weren't the problem....

 I saw the highlight playing in a bar while walking home from work tonight- stopped me in my tracks and got me in the bar to see it again. Wow.

Made me think of maybe my favorite goal evah.

I was in Italy, watching live on a big screen in the Piazza del Duomo in Milan with a couple thousand people- people flipped the #### out over that one.

FC Bayern, Deutschland fan here. Looking to follow an EPL/La Liga team as well.

Former U.S. national team captain Claudio Reyna has been appointed the U.S. Soccer Federation's youth technical director. In his new position, Reyna will work with youth organizations and their coaches to "oversee the design and implementation of long-term strategies for development of both coaches and players at the youth level in the United States," according to a release.

I am not sold on many of the striker choices for the US (Casey, Findley, Ching, Cunningham etc), even if they will only be role players at the world cup.

Davies is progressing but I still don't really believe he will be strong enough to play come summer.

Am I nuts or is it time to think about pulling Bake out of international retirement? He can still play and even at his advanced age he might be a better fit with his experience than some of the other choices we have that have no experience at this level.

Call a foul. :bag:

rafael needs to control himself. If he hadnt commited the first stuid foul, the 2nd one wouldnt have mattered. Very talented kid, but he needs to grow up.

I like Man U, but there is a ton of sour grapes coming from their camp today. The entire BM team running at the ref begging for a foul is kinda bush league, but actually commiting the foul was the first mistake.

And as great as Robben is, i dont think he could make that shot again if he had 50 tries. But it was amazing.

Please. It's not like the kid was some loose canon all game. United dominated that game before he was sent off. Call it sour grapes, but it's difficult to see the game decided by a player tugging on another's arm 40 yards away from goal.

Rafael absolutely deserved to get sent off. He pulls this crap a lot - you don't defend with your arms.

The game had a lot of late/poor challenges by both sides. I have no issues with the refereeing. really tough way to get sent out, giving up two goals at home, especially after that first 40 minutes or so.

his first foul was very bad. He got taken down on what was basically a 50-50 ball (i thought he was probably fouled, but it was borderline) and then decides to basically leg-sweep the tackler while he went for the ball. It was a really bad play. Honestly, i could see a ref giving a red on that play. It was very dirty. I've seen reds for less. After pulling that move (and basically sprinting away from the ref after he did it, which im sure didnt make him happy) he really needed to be on his best behavior for the rest of the match. IMO(again, i like Man U) a stupid foul 40 yards away is an inexcusable offense given the situation. I hate that it happened, but Man U has nobody else to blame. 2 yellows=red. Everyone knows that going in.

why supposedly? I've been supporting Chelsea in this forum since the yellow-board days (remember Noodlefish gloating over Arsenal's undefeated season?)I wasn't born into Chelsea, but I was singing Blue is the Color at Stamford Bridge long before Ambramovich had made his first billion or asassinated his first political opponent. I had been a fan for almost 20 years before they won their first title (in my lifetime). My "second team" is Schalke 04, but I don't follow them as much anymore. I lived in northern Germany for some time and had several drunken afternoons at their old venue - "Parkstadium" - when Schalke was in the 2nd Bundesliga.Internationally I am a USA fan, but also follow Germany rather closely because I lived there for several years in the mid '80's and that is where I first became a fan of european and international soccer.

I don't know, there's probably a reason I wrote it as a joke.ETA - I remember now...it's because you never actually specified and I put you down because I THOUGHT you were a Chelsea fan but didn't know 100%.

I'm a Newcastle, but possibly a sports bigamist in that I root for Arsenal. Particularly if Newcastle get relegated. I have no great history with Newcastle. I picked them in college because I liked the beer.

Beyond that, it's hard to not enjoy watching both Barca and Real play this season.

So apparently some guy named Herculez is tearing up the Mexican League and might get a shot at forward if Davies isnt ready ;)

Herculez Gomez, who couldn't get any run in MLS for years. For instance, Gomez couldn't beat out Casey for a spot in Colorado (in fairness, I think they tried to play him in MF).
