Nice to see Holden play a featured role (he and Petrov roamed the middle) for Bolton and go the full 90. Had some nice moments and some flubs, but mostly great to see a US guy have the apparent support of his coach. Flipside, couldn't believe it took fulham 75 minutes to swap out Gera for Dempsey who made an immediate impact. He should be starting, but probably something going on on the training grounds... or maybe residual WC hangover and giving him a rest.

But oof- after watching most of that electric Spurs v City game, this one was a dud. Looked kinda like an MLS game.

whoa... what's happening Morpheus?

God I love watching Michael Essien play

His (hopeful) health will be a big key for Chelsea this year, IMO

Glad Cech was healthy enough to make the start today as well

Have to say, Chelsea got a great schedule to start the season

WBA/Wigan/Stoke/West Ham/Blackpool

That's cake to start the season

Hopefully they get the full 15 from them

Walk on through the wind

Walk on through the rain

Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on walk on with hope in your heart

And you'll never walk alone

You'll never walk

You'll never walk

You'll never walk alone.

Holy smokes!!!

BERLIN -- FIFA president Sepp Blatter says soccer's governing body will consider eliminating ties in all World Cup games.

Blatter said Saturday on Germany's Focus weekly that the dramatic change would make the tournament more interesting. He says the change could involve going to a shootout after 90 minutes of regulation or adding sudden-death overtime.

Sudden-death overtime was used in the knockout rounds of the 1998 and 2002 World Cups. FIFA then reverted to its previous rule of having teams play a full 30 minutes of overtime if tied at the end of regulation in the knockout rounds.

First-round games always have ended in draws if tied at the end of regulation.

My daughter plays fwd and got rolled by two defenders in the second gm of a tourney yesterday. They were both piled on top of her calling her a ##### and she punched one in the back. She got a red card and has to miss today's game. She's U11. FML.

Any EPL games on ESPN this year?

My StarReds fall to the Gals with Marquez giving the ball away super-cheaply at the center stripe and then flopping down in a goofy dive with hands to face as Donovan feeds Buddle for a relatively easy goal (great feed though). Flopped a few times, never getting called (thankfully) Marquez never looked right to me- always out of position... but that will improve in time. Hopefully they put it together for a run in the playoffs.

Any detailed thoughts about the US/Brazil game? I was on vacation and didn't see any of it, but a friend told me they were awful and it was a waste of time. Judging by the posts here, it sounds like you guys agree.

It's worth watching to see Neymar, Ganso and Pato's coming out party. You can fast forward through the bits when the US is in possession.

I forgot to tape it as well. I forgot the date until a day before the game and was long gone by then and couldn't set the DVR.

We qualified for the promotion playoffs in 4th place. We'll play the 1st place team, who finished 8-1-2. We did beat them in the regular season - one of their 2 losses - but they didn't have any subs that day. When I joined the team last offseason, they were 1-3-7, finishing with 6 points just 1 place above relegation in 11th. Last year we finished 7th. This year we finished 6-3-2 on 21 points and in 4th place. I have to think that even if we don't get promoted, we'll be in great shape for next year.Exciting times for us. This game has been called, and I quote, "the most important game in the club's history".
Unbelievable game last night. It's amazing how often it comes down to the last second. We're the 4th seed in the playoffs (6-3-2, 21 points) playing against the 1st seed (8-2-1, 25 points), at their place. They come out confident, they're good team...they control the first 20 minutes or so before we start to create a few chances. But we keep them off the scoreboard and go into halftime 0-0.Second half, 60th (roughly) minute. They have a corner. Ball is played in and one of our defenders gets a head on it....but pops it up into the air. One of their players is on the backpost and actually chests it past the outstretched arms of our GK. Down 1-0. We start pushing forward and they start sitting back. We're generating a ton of chances but just can't finish. We get into stoppage time, the ref announces 2 minutes. They put a shot wide after about a minute, and we have a goal kick. Everyone rushes into the box, our GK included, as we all try to get anything on it. We have 9 players in their box and it gets crossed in, bounces around a few times, and falls right to one of our defenders - the same guy whose awkward header led to their goal. He takes a touch and places a perfect shot into the corner of the net....1-1 with just 30 seconds on the clock. They take the kickoff, and within seconds, the ref calls time.FIFA rules, 2 15-minute overtimes. We have all the momentum in the world, and their players just look stunned. We keep up the pressure, and a few minutes in, roughly the 97th, one of our strikers finally gets one. We go up 2-1 and manage to hold on for the win. It's our understanding that the 2 teams that meet in the championship are promoted, but we haven't gotten official word yet. Unfortunately, I will be out of town and will miss next Sunday's final.
My team won the title without me. We went down 1-0 in the first half and 2-0 in the second....then cut it to 2-1 late. In stoppage time (AGAIN), caught somewhat of a lucky bounce, apparently, off of one of our "aging vet" strikers and into the net. Extra time was scoreless, and it went to PKs, where we won 4-3. 4 goals and 1 miss off the crossbar for us, 3 goals, 1 wide, and 1 GK save on their PKs.

Don't encourage him... that's one to forget for a USMNT fan. Honestly, nothing worth seeing from that standpoint. But yeah- Neymar and Ganso were amazing.

That should knock 30-40 seconds off his viewing time.

we'll all get to see plenty of Neymar this year after he completes the transfer to Chelsea

Obviously, he should have punched it clear..........but I still think he was impeded.
I can only assume you are a Pool fan or a keeper as I can't imagine how any unbiased observer could think that was plowing into a keeper. I'm not sure there was even much contact. I understand that keepers need to be protected, but a ball in the air is a ball in the air. Offensive players have a right to go after it too.

Bayern began defense of their DFB Pokal title with a 4-0 defeat of amateur side Germania Windeck today.

Goals by Ribéry, Gomez, Kroos and Klose.

Scholes to Giggs....Giggs with a wonder-volley finish. Pure class those two. It's like they never age.
So true. I also love that Ferguson keeps playing them, especially as there is a seemingly constant call to sign/play younger players. These two have been a pleasure to watch for well more than a decade.

with Chelsea scoring 6 on Saturday I'm sure ManU want to try and match that...even here in added time.

Barton looks good in the black and white vertical stripes, IMO.

21 seasons in a row that Ryan Giggs has scored in now. Pretty impressive to say the least.

Ugh. That little sociopath is my least favorite Magpie ever. And they still have Colochinni, who is #2.
