Guess who just watched Barca take apart RM 2-0? :hey:

Guess who was  when Marquez showed up on screen for Barcelona.

Guess who was :shuked: when Raul had a goal called back in the 85th minute.

Guess who was :hot:  .... .... :bag: that he recorded and watched in its entirety last year's el classico.

LOLAlmost the same result though.

The guy sitting next to me at the bar today said it best: "Every ####### time! It's the same ####!"

Cracked me up.

Two things about Messi that I absolutely love, and that he gets little credit for... (1) when he has the ball at his feet, he doesn't lose ANY speed/quickness, and (2) he is unbelievable when it comes to using his body when he has the ball.
Who has/had better ball control: Messi v. Zidane

The showdown between two players who can lay claim to the Best Striker in the World went decisively to Messi. He didn't score, but set up two scores like a magician.
I didn't know Drogba was playing for Real Madrid these days. :goodposting:
Lots can lay claim. I didn't say they were the only ones.
Are they even strikers?
Messi is a forward that plays on both the right and in the middle.

I still haven't picked out my own Spanish team to follow, but does ESPN3 show a lot of Spanish soccer? Now that I (finally) get ESPN3, I'd love to watch some more....I wish they'd show it on TV more here as is...
If you don't want to follow Cesc to Barcelona, I'd say Bilbao and Villarreal are solid choices. Sevilla has a lot of fun players to watch, but can never seem to pull it all together.

In case anyone is even 1/100th as interested in the vote as I am, it is going to be broadcast a bunch of places.

Thursday at 10:00am eastern, the result of the votes will be broadcast on ESPN, FSC, CNNi, and Univision.

Both of them have pretty much perfect control- tough to compare in that regard, but I might give the edge to Zidane. And I might give the edge to Ronaldinho for pure ball control.Messi relies on luring people into taking a stab at the ball and has maybe the quickest feet/tightest control on the planet to zip by them like a counter-puncher when they do. Zidane could just do whatever the #### he wanted but didn't have that same lightning quick move.I've said it before, but I got to see Zidane play live. To this day, I consider him the greatest player I have ever seen (including Maradonna amongst many, many others); he ran non-stop, always with one or two defenders beating the crap out of him, and could make plays on the ball in the middle of that punishment that only a handful of players could make even without having made a 60 yard sprint and without two guys draped over him. Messi is a great passer of the ball, but Zidane's vision and ability to the put the ball wherever he wanted was/is unparalleled. Guys like CR and now Bale always- at least to me- seem like they're working very hard to do what they're doing. Zizou flowed with such ease on and off the ball... just amazing. :pirate:

So, is it safe to say that Real is not the best team in the World right now?Still one team out there waiting for their first loss :goodposting:
Nice while it lasted, huh. Then again, Real only ran into Xavi and Messi. They didn't have to deal with the buzzsaw that is Jonathan Spector.

My post referred more to Messi in space, though. You give him the ball at midfield with a half-step on the defender, and I'm not sure there's a single player in the world who can catch him and take the ball....and with the ball, that's remarkable. I also was just in awe of the way he shields defenders, too. There was a moment in the game when he received the ball maybe 40 yards out with Pepe right on his back....Pepe must have like 50 pounds and 6 inches on him....and Messi just shielded him PERFECTLY...took Pepe right out of the play, giving Messi a clear path to the goal. Just absurd....it's hard to really describe.

Mourinho gets a one-game touchline ban for the blatant, bush-league redcardgate incidents in the Ajax game. 4 players directly involved get small fines, slightly larger fines for the club and coach, and everyone's back by the time they begin knock-out play.

Weak sauce, UEFA, very weak.

:thumbup:that'll learn 'em.

Two goals for Spector today. Did Man U trot out the youth squad or something?
It was far from a first team side, but it wasn't filled entirely with fringe guys. Giggs, Fletcher, Anderson, and Obertan isn't a midfield most people sneeze at. Sounds like the other Da Silva kid, Fabio, got abused and that Victor Obinna was the catalyst for WHAM!.

Not that any us consider him a savior (especially at his age) but Jermain Jones was just demoted to the 4th division of German soccer with the Schalke reserves

Hello --

In just two days we'll find out if the United States will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup™.

Are you as excited as I am?

Right now I'm in Zurich -- where FIFA's announcement will take place -- to show my support for the Bid on decision day. But I'm just one of more than a million Bid supporters who have shown the world how passionate and intense U.S. soccer fans are.

Together we've made a statement over the past months: The Game Is In US. Now it's time to come together for a final show of strength.

This Thursday, join fans around the country and wear your favorite soccer gear.

Also be sure to encourage all your friends to join you -- you can spread the word through email, Facebook, and Twitter.

Then on Thursday, snap a photo of yourself taking part in this show of strength and send it to us here:

Thanks so much for all your support. It's been amazing to be part of this Bid with you.

P.S. You can watch FIFA's announcement live on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. (EST) on Fox Soccer Channel, ESPN, Univision, ESPN Deportes, CNN International and fifa.com.

You want to cheer for a team that will break your heart at every turn?I have one in mind.
I'm already a fan of the Bills...
And Arsenal...Complete the trifecta. Oh BTW I also hope you like to see your team fail miserably at defense no matter who they pick up.

Interesting news coming out of Zurich tweets this morning that should make England feel better.

Russia has been considered a slight favorite to win the 2018 bid over England. However Putin this morning is reported to have canceled his trip to Zurich because he does not want to be a part of the "unscrupulous competition"

Good stuff.

From various tweets:

US presentation just completed. Freeman, Landon, Obama, Sunil and Clinton all spoke.

Freeman had a small hiccup with his speech. Landon spoke from the heart and did well, Sunil spent time on the economics and Clinton was extremely smooth in his closing speech, taking a 180 degree approach from Putin in that he kissed FIFA's ### a bit.

In the end though nothing has changed. The US is the safest choice from an organization stand point, by far the best choice economically, has arguably the best chance to grow the game in the country. But whether the US is chosen is still up in the air.

I'd be very surprised if the US didn't get 2022. Australia have big time zone issues which would mean games being played outside of European and American primetime, Japan and South Korea have both held it too recently and Qatar is just a big joke.2018 though is very up in the air from everything I've read. Spain/Portugal seems to be the slight favourite at the moment but England and Russia aren't out of it by any means.

But spent the least amount on bribes. I assume.

 That's not what mine said.

He was just checking in to see if I wanted to get drinks later and go prowling for women now that he's single.

yeah, Sunil even said as much. He put it like "The US bid was 100% above water"The fact that he had to say that shows how corrupt this whole thing is.

The bookmakers have updated the odds.

Hopefully they don't know something because Qatar is still the favorite.

heard the US presentation today was awful. Qatar is the favorite, Russia with outside shot.

Still reeling after yesterday's embarrassment :hungover: Losing to a championship side is pretty poor. I have to think SAF ordered the team to lay on it's sword and worry about the bigger pictures.

heard the US presentation today was awful.
huh?The presentation was near perfect. Only slight hiccup was Freeman but he recovered nicely. Everyone else hit their marks perfectly and Clinton was arguably the star of all the presentations. I watched the presentation and have read numerous articles commenting on it and yours in the first I hear that said it was awful. As for Qatar, the bookmakers do have them as the favorites. We will know by 10:00am tomorrow.

####### QatarWhat a ####### joke that would be
one thing seems to be very consistent in the many things I am reading:No one can reconcile the fact that Qatar is the current slight favorite over the US to host 2022 with the fact that everyone seems to acknowledge that FIFA is going to want China for 2026.

Just what I heard, man. I frequent a number of international soccer boards, so maybe there is a slight bias against the US, but your unabashed homerism knows no bounds.I hope the US gets the world cup, but I am of the opinion Qatar will get it.
