Sneijder's goal was one of the top plays on sportscenter yesterday, I'm sure it's kicking around ESPN's web-site somewhere. Pretty impressive.

I think some of this is due to TSN which just signed a deal with MLS. My guess is that TSN wants a majority of the Canadian teams games to broadcast.Of more interest is not a single ESPN game showing FC Dallas who have the league reigning MVP.

Some interesting new info about Davies. The $300k DC is reported to pay him if the loan is agreed to will be an excellent indication that Davies may have made a solid recovery. DC can not afford that big a chunk of the salary cap on a whim.

==================================

D.C. United planning to acquire Charlie Davies, but financial issues remain unresolved

By Steve Goff

D.C. United is moving forward with plans to acquire forward Charlie Davies on loan but contract issues have not been resolved, the Insider has learned.

Davies, the U.S. national team player who suffered severe injuries in a car accident 16 months ago, flew to Washington on Wednesday night for a final set of medical evaluations and was expected to rejoin United on Thursday evening at training camp in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The medical report will be completed no later than Monday, United General Manager Dave Kasper said.

In anticipation of a deal possibly being reached, Davies canceled his Friday flight back to France and was planning to accompany the club to Washington on Sunday. If a contract is finalized, he would travel with the team to California next Wednesday for the third stage of preseason camp. In lieu of a formal loan agreement, United asked for -- and received -- permission from Sochaux to extend Davies' time in the United States.

Kasper said the club has not decided whether to acquire Davies but that it is "moving towards a finality in terms of making a decision."

Assessing Davies, Kasper said: "He has made a lot of progress in camp. We've been pleased with the physical side of things and encouraged by his performance."

For more details.....

However, contrary to United's statement last week that "details of a 12-month loan have already been negotiated" between the club, MLS, French team Sochaux and Davies' representatives, financial terms remain an issue, sources said. Per club policy, Kasper said he would not discuss contract negotiations.

Davies played 74 minutes -- the most among field players -- and had a goal and an assist in Monday's exhibition against the Canadian under-20 national team. He did not make an appearance in Wednesday's 60-minute game vs. Florida International University.

This morning, the Insider reported that United had been planning to pay Davies about $300,000 this season. It's unclear whether that figure has changed and whether additional incentives have been added to compensate for a reduced base salary.

Regardless of what United would pay, Sochaux would also continue to compensate him a portion of his original salary. His total compensation in the loan deal does not necessarily have to match the terms of his contract with Sochaux.

That's just as bad, as I don't get TSN here. Will CBC keep showing the Saturday afternoon home games? It was good to at least get 1/3 - 1/2 of the games televised here...we get CBC, but not TSN.

I have not heard anything about CBC but MLS did say the following"League officials stressed that certain matches are subject to change, due to other national television implications. MLS remains in discussions with other potential national broadcast partners in the United States and Canada and will release details soon which could affect certain dates on the schedule. "So there is still things in the air. Shame with even the huge delay in the schedule they still did not settle all of the TV contracts.

This was the local kid I was mentioning many many pages ago. I don't know if he is going to have the physical maturity to play in the league right away but the signs are good in that he has already been moved up from the youth squad to the Revs first team and he is still only 15.
My kid brother plays with Diego on the Revs Academy team... he's the real deal.
Sweet. Did you get to see him play or just some good info from bro?Your brother must be a very good player as well to be in the academy.

I've seen Diego play many times. I grew up playing with Charlie Davies and got to play against Freddy Adu a couple of times, but I can honestly say that Diego is the best youth prospect I've ever seen. He plays up 2-3 years and still dominates. The scary part is he's not like other youth 'prodigies' who depend on premature physical dominance; Diego's game is based on quickness, relentless attacking, and creativity. He just sees the game on a different level and makes everything look incredibly easy.I'm very excited to track Diego's development over the next couple of years, and hope to someday see him representing the full USMNT.

The link Andy posted says his dad played for Uruguay, so I am not getting my hopes up.

Reports have Liverpool pretty thin at the back from tomorrow. Possible that Kelly, Agger, & Skrtel are all out. We'll have to go back to four wide with Danny Wilson as the first available sub if that happens.

They can always call Konchesky back from loan :jawdrop:

Ives tweeted that the Red Bulls are moving Rafa Marquez back to his natural position of central defender.

With Ream and Marquez, NY will have the best ball playing central defenders in MLS history IMO.

certainly worth the early wake up. Rooney's goal was absolutely jaw dropping

The only way Ryan Giggs' beard could be any more awesome would be if it glowed in the dark.

Bayern at full strength this morning for the first time in 9 months. Robben and Ribery on the pitch together along with Müller, Gomez, Lahm and Schweinsteiger!

Gomez scored in the 2nd minute and it was on from there. Bayern defeat Hoffenheim 4-0 with goals from Gomez, Müller and two from Robben. :goodposting:

You guys wake up early for the United/City game tomorrow morning, or record it for later in the day?
I am not going to be able to sleep...City/United, then Tiger in Dubai, then family over for my sons first birthday party... :(
I'm going City/United, Liverpool/Wigan and then all afternoon fixing my POS fence with my neighbor.
I hope fixing the fence is better than that Liverpool result.

Charlie Davies had 2 goals and an assist in DC's game against T&T U20's.

Davies will be going North to DC with the team today. No deal signed with Sochaux yet. United will be traveling to California this week for the next round of training camp. There is some hope that the deal will be done by that time.

It would be great to see Davies back stateside. I think it will help his recovery to be closer to home. It's amazing that he's progressed as far as he has already.

Must be spooky for him to be back in DC. If memory serves, that is where he had his accident.
