Good to hear Keller is determined to stay in the game after he retires in any way possible.

He is an incredibly intelligent guy and he seems to have some serious ambitions. He mentioned he would love to run all of US Soccer some day.

RSL holding a 1-0 into halftime. Saprissa playing much better in the latter part of the half.
Why are they playing? I assume it's not a preseason friendly of some sort.
CONCACAF Champions League semis
Thanks. For some reason I thought everyone from MLS had been eliminated from CONCACAF champions league already. Cool.
We had a bunch of posts on this last week.Columbus and RSL were drawn in the quarterfinals against each other. They were the last two MLS teams alive. The semis areRSL vs SaprissaMonterrey vs Cruz Azul

Can't believe I'm actually watching a regular season MLS game. I was just in Seattle and they are soccer crazy there. It's a great atmosphere.
MLS has quickly become easily one of my favorite leagues, and I'd prefer to watch a random MLS game to a game in nearly any other sport. Such a great crowd in cities like Seattle, Toronto, etc.

The atmosphere has improved greatly in recent years. Wait till people see a Seattle Portland game in either city.

I think I'd actually consider going to one of those games. If an FBG in either city will put me up, I'm there.

What's the anticipated atmosphere like in Vancouver? Toronto/Vancouver games should be epic.

Sea is going to have to figure some thing out here. With them tossing their DP 1 hour before the game they obviously have some large cap room to look for a striker but may have to wait until the summer when the transfer window opens up again.

As the announcers just said, this was a huge win for LA missing 3 key players.

Great atmosphere in Salt Lake tonight as RSL held on to a 2-0 win in the first leg.

Not sure that will be enough as Saprissa stadium is one of the hardest stadiums to play at in all of CONCACAF.

I wish the MLS would mandate grass fields - these bounces are awful.
I have to look it up but I think most of the stadiums are grass. Two obvious ones that are not are in Seattle and in NE where the stadium is controlled by NFL teams.

I have heard some good things but have to wait and see.I think Vancouver is more tied into the Portland Seattle rivalries from the old days.Next year Toronto vs Montreal should be pretty special.

Portland will be Field Turf and I think Toronto is Field Turf - not sure about the new KC stadium
Toronto switched to grass last season. They were field turf beforeKC (LiveStrong) will be grass from the get go

Caught the last 1/2 hour of RSL v Saprissa... RSL looked really, really good on the ball (couple of Argentines leading the way, IIRC) and remarkably organized behind it. Who knows if they'll be able to hold it in San Jose, but this was a good showing for MLS IMO.

Bounced around between that and the Gals v Sounders game... much, much less to look at in that game, but both teams had moments going forward. Montero continues to impress me.

FORZA INTER!!!!!!

Eto'o... having such an amazing season and so clearly enjoying himself. I can't explain my distaste for Bayern... they play so well on both sides of the ball and really flow getting forward... but I just can't like them (same goes for the recent Germany squad).

It's pretty easy to hate German football (although the game has progressed a lot in the last 10 years). They are far less robotic now.

yeah- agree. like I said... :shrug:I can almost always get behind quality soccer, no matter who's playing... but I've got some kind of teutonic block.

It's OK. I hate the English national team similarly.

BTW, me an my boys got tix for the Gold Cup Final at the Rose Bowl in late June. They'll be at least 6 of us going, and we bought 10 tickets. Any FBGs interested?

I caught most of the RSL game and they looked significantly better than either the Gals or the Sounders. Not sure if it was the field conditions or not but RSL just seemed much more technical. They have a handful of highly skilled players who seem to link up very well together. Not that he is the second coming or anything, but Kyle Beckerman may be one of the best US players who hangs on the very edge of the national team picture.

Landon tweeted to Drew Carey last night after the game begging him to do something about the field. He said it was almost impossible to play on last night. Hopefully that explained why the game was so herky jerky last night with almost constant give aways.

You know I'm a Germany and Bayern fan so I cancel both of you out. But I'm with you on the hate for the English squad. That pretty much exists for most EPL teams too.

Well Ochocinco has been teasing this for about a year now and it looks like he is some what serious.

Ochocinco has joined Sporting KC for a full blown trial. Peter Vermes insists that they are taking this seriously.

In case people don't know, Ocho has a background in soccer and absolutely loves the game. The minute his season was over, he got on a place and did a multi week tour of Euro clubs. It was pretty funny to watch on twitter.

Hopefully this won't be a circus but with Ocho anything is up for grabs.

FWIW, trial starts on March 22.

no way.

Mr. Ferguson got a five match ban this morning for his remarks about Atkinson. Kind of hypocritical that his comments came the game after Clattenburg gave Rooney a pass on the elbow so I don't feel so bad for him. It was actually a three match ban, but he took a ban last year and had two games suspended based on his behavior this year.

How much does this affect teams anyway? I guess it would depend on the manager, but I can't seem to get a good grasp on how much of a blow this is to a team (if it is really a blow at all). For the NFL it would be a big blow, for MLB a much smaller blow. I would guess soccer would be somewhere in the middle (generally speaking), but probably more akin to MLB.

I was trying to watch some of the LA at Seattle game but it was difficult. The 1st LA goal was an impressive shot and would have been an even more impressive save by Keller. Got his hands on it. Becks open at the corner of the box should have done better with the ball shortly after. Very sad attempt

However... I found the portion i watched to be very much one guy dribbling as fast as he can until he ran into someone, then that person dribbling back the other was as fast as he can until he ran into someone, etc, etc. all at 100MPH. Very hard to watch. There was no control, no passing, just 100mph back and forth. I really hope the rest of the game was better.

That he did. I dont think it will be much of a problem (and he is appealing). It just means he doesnt coach during the games, but he is still involved with practice and the teams selection i believe. Ban starts 3/22 so he will be involved vs bolton this weekend.

he misses games against west ham away, fuhlam at home. FA Cup Semis vs City (this may hurt), Everton at home.

Now here is the interesting part: Depending on the rescheduled Newcastle game, he may miss that or may have to miss Arsenal at the Emirates, which could decide the EPL. THAT is where the issues may come in. But who knows.

and finally, it was mentioned above, but it makes me laugh:

-- Chad Ochocinco to Tryout for MLS --

AP reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco will try to play a different kind of football during the NFL lockout. Never short on publicity-grabbing ideas, the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver is set for a four-day tryout with Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer starting Tuesday. The club said Wednesday that after the tryout, it would determine whether to extend the trial period. "We're always searching for players who can help our team and bringing in new talent," Sporting Kansas City manager Peter Vermes said. "We know that Chad is an exceptional athlete and that he loves the sport of soccer, and he did play a lot when he was younger. We're excited to see how his skills will translate once he arrives next week and begins training with our team." Ochocinco started playing soccer at age 4 but chose to focus on football in high school. "Due to the NFL lockout, I'm excited to be able to follow my childhood dream of playing for a Major League Soccer team," Ochocinco said.

born January 9, 1978, MLS wasnt even a league in his childhood! ok, maybe he meant a "major soccer league" team?

Yeah, with SAF I don't really see it as much of a big deal. Most of United's players are like 80 and have been there forever. I mean, how much coaching do they really need?Hey Giggs, go get the ball and run past that dude and center it perfectly!Hey Scholes, go make a dirty tackle!Hey Wes Brown, go stand at the back but please at least try not to score on us!

it wasn't sadly. Many of the players complained about the surface after the game, saying it was almost impossible to control the ball or weight any passes which made for a very sloppy game.

Under the most ideal weather conditions, field turf is still a poor substitute for grass. After pouring rain for hours, it is even worse.

The RSL game was a much more technical game to watch.

was just reading up on Portland's field. While it will be field turf, it is suppose to be much better than what Seattle has. The turf Portland is using is rated the highest by FIFA and is not used in the NFL. It has something to do with the underlayment which makes the field softer and much less bouncy for a ball. Will be interesting to compare the differences. With the field be rated by FIFA, I wonder if this will allow Portland to host a WCQ some day....

Something like this? Inter and Chelsea would be hugeMadrid - SchalkeBarcelona - TottenhamChelsea - InterUnited - ShakhtarAlthough it wouldnt suprise me to see:Madrid - InterBarcelona - SchalkeShakhtar - TottenhamUnited - Chelsea Just reading up on the draw:unseeded and open, no restrictions, anyone can play anyone unlike earlier rounds where teams from the same group or confederation were kept apart. They will also detail the draw for the semis so each team will know where they got to go to get to Wembly.
