US had a good stretch of dominance there.
What's your fascination with women's sports? I know you're a women's tennis fan.I'm enjoying soccer without fouls. Refreshing.
I was thinking the other day that women's soccer might be more enjoyable to watch than the men's. The men seem to be better dribblers, but beyond that, there just isn't that much about men's better physical strength and speed that makes soccer more exciting. The relative lack of diving in the women's game (Brazil excepted) makes it a lot more enjoyable for me.What's your fascination with women's sports? Patrick Vieira was an ultimate destroyer during his Arsenal days. Gilberto Silva to a lesser extent after Vieira. I think it's a major reason why the team's not what they used to be.I'm also a big fan of the free-flowing creator...a Wesley Sneijder-type...think a guy like Riquelme in his prime.Speaking of types of players I love... in order:1) "The Destroyer" = central, defensive MF. See Ríos for Uruguay yesterday, or Marcos Senna for Spain during Euro2008.2) "The Gunner" = speedy winger who can stretch the defense, make a cross or cut inside, and play technically one one one. See Gareth Bale.3) "The Statue" = forward who plays with his/her back to the goal, can take a cross or through ball, and get a shot off with 1 or 0 touches. See Ruud van Nistelrooy. These players are typically leaders IMO, because otherwise they don't see the pitch.*Note, all terrible nicknames are mine.
It was purely a South African thing.'culdeus said:Did FIFA wise up and ban the vulvazuelas or did they just die out as a fad?
Vuvuzelas are largely a South African thing, and are rarely seen outside of South Africa. I don't know if they are actually banned from the cup, but this is being held in Germany.'culdeus said:Did FIFA wise up and ban the vulvazuelas or did they just die out as a fad?

I don't recall much interest from you prior to this in soccer. And I recall that you've posted in women's tennis threads from time to time as well. Maybe my notebook's out of sync. What's this now? What's your fascination with women's sports? I know you're a women's tennis fan.I'm enjoying soccer without fouls. Refreshing.
Yeah, Vieira is a great example. His presence covered so much ground in the defensive midfield. It's the disruptive force aspect that I particularly enjoy. I think that Germany Jones can do some of the for the USMNT, BTW.Patrick Vieira was an ultimate destroyer during his Arsenal days. Gilberto Silva to a lesser extent after Vieira. I completely agree with whoever said that the Japanese team is much better looking than the US team, for sure.Samushima or however you spell it (#15, left back) needs to take some bikini pics, I'd love to do a few posts on her in the Beautiful Asian Women thread.

Ok, she looks better at long distance. Aya Sameshima. Google images are not her friend.Though I've noticed that seems to be the case with a few female soccer players. Hope Solo looks much better on TV than most of her pictures. Necib for France, same thing. Her pictures with dark hair are downright scary.I will be on the lookout.Samushima or however you spell it (#15, left back) needs to take some bikini pics, I'd love to do a few posts on her in the Beautiful Asian Women thread.
Hope Solo and Alex Morgan are hotter than any of the girls on the Japanese team though.I completely agree with whoever said that the Japanese team is much better looking than the US team, for sure.Samushima or however you spell it (#15, left back) needs to take some bikini pics, I'd love to do a few posts on her in the Beautiful Asian Women thread.
Those are my favorite to key in on. Head always on a swivel knowing where everyone is and putting in the through passes. Literally perfect timing.Love how the Brazil-Paraguay Copa match reached halftime just as the women start the Second Half![]()
The thing about Vieira is that he claimed EVERYTHING that came his way. Guy was like a vacuum in the midfield. You knew that the other team had to play it perfectly if they're gonna score when Vieira was on his game. I think he's my 2nd favorite player of all-time, behind old #14..Those are my favorite to key in on. Head always on a swivel knowing where everyone is and putting in the through passes. I doubt there's enough people who watch the USWNT enough to comment. So question for some of you who watch soccer more than I.Is it just me or has Shannon Box not been very impressive in this tournament? I just don't recall very many moments she seemed to stand out at all.
I think the US is getting frustrated.
the longer this stays 0-0, the better Japan's chances are.Truffle shuffle. What's with the fat white kid with his shirt up? That was nasty in HD.
Alex Morgan = hot
