A ridiculous straight red to Rodwell. He got to the ball at least a half second before Suarez collapsed. What a crap way for the ref to alter the dynamics of the game only 25 minutes in.
:goodposting: horrible.
:goodposting: Garbage callAs far as the way Lvierpool looked...meh. I don't mind the slow play/build up, but when every other pass is back or two passes back... :wall: Too much standing still and watching for some reason.

Danny Williams is starting today against Bayern Munich and looks pretty good. They are holding a very good side still level 0-0 early in the second half.
How did he look in the 2nd?
very solid until he was subbed around the 70th minute. He ran himself into the ground and got a great round of applause from the fans. He was heavily involved, a very box to box type of player. He seems bigger than Edu with a little more mobility. Hard to make any judgements from just seeing him play once, but at least it was against one of the best teams in the world and his team arguably outplayed them for this one time.Without much more to go on, it looks like just another solid player in the increasingly crowded midfield for the US. I think he is going to try to get his passport today. If he does we should see him get some time in at least one of the friendlies.

My U12 suffered their first defeat today 3-0 to a really good team, not much we could do save for maybe one goal chance we should have buried and one they shouldn't have gotten. The U8s got their first win 1-1-1 and I can unbiasedly say we've been the best team in each game. It's more difficult than I thought to teach the kids the actual game and not just let them gang up on other kids in a swarm of feet and elbows. Very proud of them, even had 5 times that I saw kids try to use their left when the ball was on their left side.

Grant Wahl just tweeted (from the game, I'm assuming) that Adebayor has been heckled with racist chants, including one saying that Adebayor should've been shot in Angola. Stay classy, Arsenal fans...

Song's the team's best center back, and he's not even a CB...and when's the last time you saw an Arsenal defender make a play like that?

1-1!

Walker has had a great start to the season. Both offensively and defensively.

That ball took a nasty dive about a yard out from Szczesny. I thought he had botched it, but on replay that certainly didn't look easy.

Bale is incredibly fast, but it's his acceleration that makes him so deadly. He's one touch and gone.

Parker is falling over exhausted.

I've been meaning to mention that I watched a College game on Friday night- UNC vs Duke.

Color me jaw-dropping impressed. I assume these teams are ranked well to get on tv, but wow- UNC was fantastic as a team and individually. Keep an ear open for the name Shuler/Schuller? from UNC... the kid is astonishingly good on the ball and explosive/quick. UNC had 3-4 guys who all looked ready to play at the next level right now, and they all combined incredibly well all game... even a man down, they were the team that looked most likely to score in OT. I was astonished how quickly both teams play- and play well.

Even though I played it, watching college games in my day were never that entertaining- too fast without control. These two teams were a lot of fun to watch- with quality players up and down the field who looked eager to make plays and take guys on. The college game appears to have progressed soooooo much from when I played 20+ years, when there were inevitable weak-spots on teams with guys who lacked either the physical, tactical or ball skills. These two teams went deep into their benches without missing a beat. Considering the rise of youth players immediately migrating to MLS or Europe and foregoing college, I had assumed there'd be a dip at that level... nope.

Sadly there is little light at the end of the tunnel that Arsenal find themselves in.
I actually like Wenger and Arsenal so it's sad to see the fall they have taken.Their defense is just so poor, but it's more than just the personnel. The personnel is not on par with Chelsea, City, United, but, on paper, it's not any worse than Liverpool or Tottenham and certainly not worse than the majority of the league as a whole.

I just take solace in the fact that it's Arsenal, after all. They've got tremendous economies, a massive fanbase, and are one of the more storied teams in, frankly, the history of soccer. They'll be back...sometime. There just isn't much to be excited about right now. Liverpool had some down years this past decade too, and I'd bet that their fans were in the same boat maybe 3 years ago...and look at em now.

I have been watching a few games myself this year (FSC does a nice job) and I have very similar observations that you do. A lot of people assumed that college would become insignificant with so many kids bypassing it but in reality, our society still values a degree and there is always going to be some talent in college. The MLS draft will still contain plenty of college kids for years to come. As a side note, NC is ranked 5th as of last week but Duke is not a ranked team.

Chicago and NY have played a combined 62 games. They have 32 combined draws(16 each).

Each of the teams are now tied for the most draws ever in an MLS season and they each have 3 games left.

It was a good game today between Atlético and Sevilla. It ended 0-0, but both teams played well overall. IMO Atlético looked to be the more dangerous team, especially in the final 25 minutes when it was obvious they wanted to 3 points and Sevilla was happy to settle for 1. Yet, again, they had little cohesion in the attack, and a lack of good ideas. Not everyone is on the same page, unlike some of other teams in la liga where it seems that the players can read each other's mind. Good to see my boys not slack on the defensive end, where they've had issues in the past.

I watched the 2nd half of the StarReds last night. Marquez may/should not see any more time from here on out. He looked and played completely disinterested- as if he had already checked out... thanks for giving up that goal, Rafa  Conversely, Henry keeps on pushing hard- and making incredible plays- stunning last minute goal last night to "earn" the draw. Watch it if you can- fantastic skill on the touch, turn and srike.

Gijón is actually playing very well, even though they're down 1-0. They are taking a high line and forcing Barça offside repeatedly. They won't win, but their intensity is impressive. They are playing on all cylinders, while Barça isn't playing up to the level which they are known for.

The annoucers in the Barça game just said that there are 11 Barça players (9 current players) that were called up for the Spain selección. Impressive.

I saw Henry's goal. It was very classy!Red Bull probably is going to have to take a loss on Rafa but there are literally hundreds of players who they can pay in the 2-4 million range per season who will do infinitely more for them. Hopefully an MFL team will pony up a transfer fee for him to take the sting out of the bad signing.

Two interesting tweets

I've heard that #usmnt mid Danny Williams may only play vs. Honduras & then return to Germany. It could change but that's the initial plan

There may be a change in the #usmnt roster. Jonathan Spector subbed out with an injury in the 12th min of today's Birmingham game

Real Madrid put the hurt on Espanyol today, 4-0, even though the game was closer than the final scoreline throughout. Higuaín had a had trick and CRonaldo was pulling all the strings on his 2 assists. A solid, convincing win for Real playing away in Barcelona.

Barça is finally (permanently?) at the top of the table, even with Levante on points, and 1 point up on Real overall. Levante is a real surprise this year, and they've yet to lose in 6 games. They beat Betis this week (who would have been top of the table themselves if they had won).

Next week's most interesting games are:

- Málaga hosting Levante (let's see if Levante can keep this up against a decent Málaga side)

- Getafe hosting Villarreal (Villarreal has been unimpressive this season, and if they don't get points here, I think they might be the odd team out for a CL or even Europa berth. They have a distinctive lack of talent and drive this year, drawing with a poor Zaragoza team at home)

- Mallorca hosting Valencia (Valencia has looked good in their two wins and one loss against good opponents. The question is, can they continue to not drop points against inferior teams on the road? This will be a good test for them.)

Soccer has been crossing over a bit on tv lately.

Extreme Makeover Home Edition had on Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando.

For anybody who is not familiar with the show, it's basically a show that helps families in need. This particular family was from Salt Lake and the little boy is a huge RSL fan. The little boy has a rare blood disease and needs a bone marrow transplant and he is also limited with how he can play outside. At the end of the show aside from building a beautiful home they built the little boy an indoor soccer field and not only that, RSL gave the boy season tickets for life.

On a home show called Man Caves on DIY, the show built a soccer nut a man cave dedicated to soccer to enjoy the sport with all his sons.

Montreal will announce its first MLS signing tomorrow. I assume it is a player that was on their NASL team.
It's being reported that it's Colombian and former Inter central defender Nelson Rivas. DP most likely
His wiki page is already updated to state he has signed with the Impact. Will be interesting to see if he is a DP because of transfer fee or because of salary.

I really need to start learning more about the financial side of MLS; I've intentionally remained ignant about all of it.eta: if they want Rafa, they can have him for a couple of Montreal stripper/hookers and... no- that's enough.

Sagna out for three months. ouch

Scezsny (sp) played very well yesterday, but Walker's goal was a howler for my money. A bit swerve and dip sure, but at this level, from that far out, that ball should be punched away, he just whiffed on it. Funny part about that game was how well I thought Arsenal had played for most part of it. They controlled the ball real well, and just couldn't find many cracks in the spurs defense, which is pretty underrated, imho.

VdV is overrated. There, I said it. He's very gifted, but he's a lazy player, and only gives full effort when going forward.

Gareth Bale is a monster. Once Sagna was gone, he could have just roamed free up the left wing the rest of the game, no way Leskinosnishdfia was gonna be able to mark him. I thought both coaches made pretty good moves, should have ended in a draw. Going forward, Arsenal is in trouble. Maybe not relegation trouble, but this team is decimated.

Kinda disappointed with that straight red on Rodwell too. That was a well contested derby and the ref had no business with that call. awful.

Watched a lot of soccer this weekend.....Levante with a very strong victory @ Real Betis. Betis at home is a very dangerous club, they move the ball very well, and attack all over. Very underrated side as is evidently LEvante.

Nice to see Juve beat AC Milan. Pretty sure I was all over Juve pre-season and they are doing me proud. Speaking of doing me proud, look at Newcastle United ffs.

Manchester United looked ordinary in their win vs Norwich. Their attack and midfield play was strong, but my lord are there some glaring weaknesses in the back. Norwich had at least two chances which should have been finished - that's not very United like at OT. Granted they are missing one of the best cb's in the world, but still. Phil Jones has been fantastic back there, every one else, not as much.

City and Chelsea smashed their opponents into oblivion.....I think City coulda scored about 4 more too.

And Napoli, thank you for making my weekend. Not that I'm an Inter hater, I just feel they are overrated and when I invest, I like to go against them. Napoli without Cavinni are still a pretty explosive side. Hamsek's a star caliber player, and the rest of that side is pretty strong.

(I know I butchered the spelling of a bunch of guys names, but I'm at work early and a little busy)

good stuff.I wonder what Christo thought of Fulham crushing QPR 6-0? which of your teams were you routing for?

you've been pimping Juve, I've been pimping Napoli. Those two teams have looked really good so far. Very interesting to see the Serie A table- IIRC, Inter, Milan and Roma are all in the bottom half.

yeah, I didn't bother watching the fulham game, but when I got home from church I saw that score and

I didn't realize fulham had that many goals in them in a month, let alone a single game.

oh, forgot to mention, I expect a convincing United victory this weekend vs Liverpool.

Ask away. Pm if you like. I know a fair amount of what is a pretty complicated system made more complicated because the rules seem to change based on the situation.
