eta2: And the one-sided thing about this... again, unless you're saying Evra fabricated this, I don't see where his role in this is anything but right (aside from the above). Suarez should be treated one-sided here- and he didn't even step up and apologize.
Because if you go back and watch the first match, he did way more jawing than Suarez. Suarez was abusing him down the flank, and Evra didn't like it. Suarez then called him something that isn't racist in his country, something his own keeper calls him, and suddenly it's racism. You can paint a rosy picture of him if you like, but he's not a saint in this. That's what I can't stand.
So you're saying that DeGea uses the same expressions that Suarez used? That's a bit different- but still... we can't know the intent- misintrepeted or not- of Suarez in that moment using those same comments. Dunno- maybe it's a situational thing that determines the relative meaning. It may seem otherwise, but I'm a completely non-biased spectator in this, basing my reactions here solely on what I'm seeing and what little I know of these two guys based on their on-field play. Evra jawing at Suarez is meaningless. Suarez saying something that Evra perceived as racist is meaningful. And again- regardless of the intent, if the recipient of those comments feels like they're racist, the person who makes the comments can either act indignant and say that he meant nothing by them, or apologize for any misunderstanding. By all accounts, Suarez took the low road on this, instead of just stepping up and diffusing the situation. But it seems like you've made up your mind that Evra is lying about this, so :shrug:eta: I've played in a ton of pickup games here in NYC, and I've heard "negro-something" comments from spanish speakers to black guys that, in the moment, were completely meaningless- just a way of calling out to a guy who's name they didn't know. THings like "hey china" (to any asian guy) and "hey gringo"... I also used to have guys call me "puto" a lot- that's pretty much the same thing, right? ;) But I've also heard and seen versions of "negro" that were obviously directed with bad intentions, and usually led to fights or viscous retaliatory hacks.
Smoovy's got it. Evra called Suarez a South American, Suarez called Evra a black guy in Spanish. Everyone overreacted.Yesterday's snub was a ##### move though. And one that might have consequences. From The Mirror
Luis Suarez is heading for the Anfield exit after lying to his manager and undermining the club. Not even his belated apology for betraying Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish looks likely to stop the club’s owners from offloading him in the summer.Suarez was condemned yesterday by Dalglish and managing director Ian Ayre, who insisted he has let down the club, the manager and his team-mates for refusing to shake the hand of Manchester United’s Patrice Evra on Saturday. In an uncompromising statement issued by Ayre and endorsed by American owners John Henry and Tom Werner, the club detailed the betrayal they feel after Suarez insisted to Dalglish he would shake hands, but then went back on his word.Dalglish issued his own apology, after viewing a tape of the incident, and realising just how much he had been misled by the striker he has backed so vehemently.Liverpool will now begin an internal disciplinary hearing against Suarez, which is likely to lead to punishment that will include a fine agreed with the PFA. But in the longer term, it is also likely to see the owners cut their losses and sell the striker in the summer, after the club made a complete U-turn on their previously staunch defence of the Uruguayan.Suarez issued his own apology yesterday, admitting: “I have spoken with the manager since the game at Old Trafford and realise I got things wrong.“I’ve not only let him down, but also the club and what it stands for and I’m sorry. I made a mistake and I regret what happened.”But that is unlikely to save him, with Dalglish angered by the position he was put in after the match, when Suarez’s misleading comments left him defending his player on TV.Liverpool will not publicly outline any plan to move on Suarez in summer, because that would undermine their negotiating position.Yet he can hardly be allowed to stay after being accused of lying by his club and betraying Dalglish so badly when he sat in the manager’s office last Wednesday and insisted he would shake hands.Dalglish is known for his loyalty, but now he feels Suarez has undermined the traditions of the club he loves, there will be no forgiveness.Although he would not say it himself, Dalglish’s feelings were revealed by his close friend Alan Hansen, who insisted Suarez had “let Kenny down” despite receiving “unequivocal support”.Liverpool’s condemnation yesterday was a clear indication their owners can no longer accept the damaging effect the affair has had on the club’s reputation. There is a feeling within the heirarchy the only way to draw a line under the row is to allow Suarez to leave in summer and rebuild relations with both the FA and Manchester United.

What a stupid way to #### on the team and fanbase that was starting to adore you. And this will, of course, only mean more Andy Carroll...oh joy.

What a stupid way to #### on the team and fanbase that was starting to adore you. And this will, of course, only mean more Andy Carroll...oh joy.
Speaking of Carroll... I watched him play with a bit more keen an eye than normal yesterday. Cat makes runs straight up the field- no diagonals, no showing, no drifting inbetween zonal coverage- just straight to the box. Plays as if it's the English first division, circa 1979. And that's fine if it's a team that can use that- Bolton has used Davies pretty much that way for a few years now... with limited success. Hell- Newcastle used Carroll that way, with much success (although I remember him doing more than just pounding the box for goals during that nice stretch he had for them. But teams that knock it around- not a ton of use for it, except for desperation subs in the last 10 minutes to try and squeak out a dead-ball or two, when they need a goal or two.

Smoovy's got it. Evra called Suarez a South American, Suarez called Evra a black guy in Spanish. Everyone overreacted.
Ok- but if Evra perceived the "black guy" comment as racist- that's a lot different than calling a guy a S American.
We'll have to agree to disagree. If in your game example, some says "Hey China" and someone responds "What's up, black?" the perception of the comment is irrelevant to me.

No quote from JK, or even somebody in the know. Pure speculation in terms of him "wanting" to take over. Looks like English reporting to me.

I've actually seen it discussed and he might even be a good fit, but I don't see how he gets out of his US contract even if he wanted.

I totally forgot he played for Spurs.Funny how that "article" doesn't even mention that little blip on JK's resume... Head Coach of Germany.I don't know that I've seen the USMNT transformed or even much changed yet, but I'd still like to see enough time put into this experiment to allow for the change JK's been jabbing about, and also to see the team line up in games that matter under him.

I dunno. It could be pure English speculation as you say but he has long maintained Spurs as one of, if not his favorite club and I would imagine that he's likely really wanted that job for a long time. He's now inside the US camp and maybe he's just not liking it. There are always ways to get out of contracts if the desire is there. I've certainly taken jobs I wanted out of pretty early on.

That shake snub by Suarez was one of the more selfish things I've seen in a while.
I agree that he should have shaken his hand, maybe stop, give him a smile and a little hug, and put the whole mess to an end. However, I still don't think he did anything other than jaw against a guy who was doing just as much jawing, and I can understand being upset towards the guy who caused you to get an 8 match ban. Evra incited it with the hand grab, almost killed Ferdinand in the first minutes trying to take him out, incited a tunnel bustup, and then incited it further by celebrating right in front of him when all he was doing was trying to leave the pitch.Everyone will pile on Suarez, who is too immature for his own good, but the only classless display today was by Evra, who is a liar and an epic %^&*@!. Man U fans and Fergie should just enjoy the win, but can't help but ##### and moan about Suarez. Talk about classless, look in the mirror, you red nosed poof.
I thought I read somewhere that said Fergie thought that Evra went too far after the game with his antics. If Suarez doesn't shake at the beginning, that's on him. He would have been crucified in the press the same way. Evra can't let it go, though. Has to grab him, has to try and talk to him face to face in the tunnel, then dances like he won the CL after the game. IMO Suarez should have put the club, fans and the game of football ahead of his ego and just shook hands. At that point it's not only about you, it's way bigger than you. That's why I called it selfish.
I completely agree. But the one sided view the story receives is not fair, and disgusting. Evra should be lambasted as well, but escapes all scrutiny as "the victim".
Ok... why should Evra be lambasted? For claiming racism?Everything I've seen of Evra on the pitch- seems to handle himself well, IMO. I don't see fakery, diving, histrionics or anything else but playing hard. Does he use some kind of whispered gamesmanship in his one-on-one battles? No idea. Probably. Everyone does. I've not seen anything that would lead me to believe that he'd lie about something- so I'm curious why people would think he would? Not saying they're wrong in thinking that, just saying that I haven't seen or heard anything myself. OF everything I know about him, the only thing I"d say was bad- and it's really bad- was his training ground actions at WC 10. But that wouldn't make me call him a liar- a selfish #######, yeah- but not a liar.Again- what I've seen of Suarez on the field: fakery, diving, histrionics, hacking... makes me think less of him as a player/person than Evra. JMHO. And again, I actually really appreciate and like the rest of Suarez's game- I even forgive the hacking as a forward being overly aggressive/working hard on defense (ala Tevez, Kuyt, etc... which I like). And fwiw, I think his handball v Ghana in the WC was the right thing to do for him- and he payed the price with the Red Card.So today- he was clearly forced by club to issue his apology, but even still- that's good enough for me. I'm sorry, let's move on with it. Should've done that originally and this would have all been far less of an issue.eta: Evra's post game celebration right in front of Suarez was also pretty classless... so there's a second thing.eta2: And the one-sided thing about this... again, unless you're saying Evra fabricated this, I don't see where his role in this is anything but right (aside from the above). Suarez should be treated one-sided here- and he didn't even step up and apologize.
I'm a HUGE pool fan and I was actually happy when Evra did all of that because Suarez is such a dirtbag. I wish they would have sold him off (gotta wait til summer now) before it got to this point. He has been pulling crap like yelling at Refs and Kenny all year. He's also a very selfish player on the pitch and I would much rather see Carrol, Bellamy, amd Kuyt rolled out there every week...I would swap him for my other most hated Ballotelli at this point.

Donovan needs to stay at Everton.
I don't see it. Everton is not going to qualify for Europe nor are they in any danger of relegation. As such, Landon is significantly more valuable to LA than to Everton which is going to make his fee likely much too high for Everton to afford extending him till the end of the year. If Everton were in shouting distance of qualifying for Europe I could see Everton trying but even then it does not make any sense for LA. LA already said no to Robbie Keane's extension. With LA not only about to start a new season but also about to enter the knockout rounds of the CCL, i think they are very likely to hold on to Landon.

By Harry Harris and ESPNsoccernet staffManchester City have confirmed to ESPNsoccernet that they expect AWOL striker Carlos Tevez to return to the club later this week - setting up an interesting reunion with manager Roberto Mancini.Tevez has not played for City since he refused to warm up during the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich in September, but he is ready to resume his career after failing to secure a move away in the January transfer window. He left Manchester and headed to Argentina after falling out with Mancini over the incident in Munich but it has now been affirmed that Tevez is returning to England. "Yes, City have been told he is on his way back at long last, and his flight is due to arrive sometime on Tuesday," a City source told ESPNsoccernet."Roberto Mancini has talked about the situation and no doubt will be asked for an update at his media conference ahead of the Porto game, when he will have a much better idea when Carlos arrives and whether he has returned to the training ground."Despite Tevez's return, it is still debatable whether he will actually feature in the City side with Mancini still insisting the striker must issue an apology for his actions, something he has refused to do thus far.Mancini, who saw his side returned to the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, told Sky Sports: "My reaction is always the same. Carlos knows the situation, we are here and it depends on him. Carlos knows the situation from September, we don't have any problem."Asked if an apology was still what City were waiting for, the Italian added: "Yes, it's possible. For now we should be happy for this game. For Carlos' situation, we know what can happen. Carlos is a Manchester City player. We are in Manchester, we are always there. We have not changed in these three months, we are there."

That's why I keep bringing this up- it seems like you guys have made your minds up that he faked it, and I'm assuming he didn't. That's where we can agree to disagree.

And btw- I am still dumbfounded at Tevez's behaviour here. A guy in his prime, playing for one of the top teams in the world, getting paid buttloads of cash.... can't just put up with whatever the hell you need to put up with for a year or two? Same goes for his wife. COmplete insanity.

Rangers are going into administration, per Soccernet:

Scottish Premier League champions Rangers have served notice that they are to go into administration.Rangers are still awaiting the outcome of a tax tribunal hearing that could see the club fined up to £49 million and, though owner Craig Whyte had said recently he would fight the possibility of administration, the club have pre-empted any decision on the case by announcing their intentions to the Court of Session in Edinburgh. The court said that solicitors lodged the papers on behalf of the club's directors on Monday lunchtime, with the paperwork officially confirming the club's "intention to appoint an administrator".Over the coming days, Rangers will discuss the situation to determine whether they can reach an agreement with creditors. Should they fail to do so, they will officially be placed in the hands of the administrators and docked ten points. An SPL spokesman said: "At this point in time, Rangers are not in administration and we await developments. The instant that they are technically in administration there will be an automatic ten-point deduction and, perhaps of less relevance, an embargo on player registrations."If administration is confirmed, as we have done previously, we would be looking to work with the administrators and would be looking for a very early meeting."The HMRC tax tribunal is centred on the use of employee benefits trusts (EBTs), which were in place before Whyte took over from Sir David Murray last May. Whyte, who bought Murray's shares for £1 and pledged to pay off £18 million of debt to Lloyds Banking Group, has seen his short tenure shrouded in controversy.Last week former Rangers chairman Alastair Johnston revealed he had asked the Government's Insolvency Service to clarify "certain financial arrangements" relating to the takeover of the club. Whyte had earlier admitted securing funds from loan company Ticketus in lieu of future season ticket sales.Johnston told the BBC: "Rangers' stakeholders are now demanding full transparency. I have had numerous approaches following the recent revelations in the press about the acquisition of Rangers Football Club and the use of future season ticket money."I am not in a position to answer all the questions put to me, but I do recognise the issue is causing much concern."I believe this is a prevalent view amongst Rangers' stakeholders who are now demanding full transparency about the funding of the acquisition of the club, its current financial status, and most importantly, the way forward."Rangers were crowned champions of Scotland in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and their 54 league titles make them the most successful club in the world in terms of domestic championships.

I have had numerous approaches following the recent revelations in the press about the acquisition of Rangers Football Club and the use of future season ticket money."I am not in a position to answer all the questions put to me, but I do recognise the issue is causing much concern."I believe this is a prevalent view amongst Rangers' stakeholders who are now demanding full transparency about the funding of the acquisition of the club, its current financial status, and most importantly, the way forward."Rangers were crowned champions of Scotland in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and their 54 league titles make them the most successful club in the world in terms of domestic championships.
good lord what a mess European soccer is (outside of Germany). It is like no one cares about debt or balancing the books.

On Fegie beeing a tool face about saying that Suarez needs to not play for Liverpool again;

Cantona assaulted a spectator. Giggs ####ed his sister in law. Ferdinand dodged a drug test. Keane ended Haaland's career on purpose. Evra led a strike against his manager in the World Cup and attacked the Chelsea groundskeepers. Keane walked out on Ireland over a slice of pizza. Rooney shagged prostitutes. Bosnich did cocaine.

Suarez didn't shake Evra's hand and scored.

How about a direct Tevez for Suarez swap?
I think it's unlikely he is in the EPL next year. Lying to Dalglish and consequently letting him hang himself in front of the media was probably the last straw for Liverpool and I don't see him going to any other English club unless it's really on the cheap. They will retain more value sending him to Italy or Spain.I don't think Tevez will stay in England either, but for different reasons.

damn. outside of this incident- and aside from his stereotypical S American diving etc- what else has he done to be banished? Or is that enough? Seems to me that he plays balls out and w a ton of skill when he's on the field.

He lied to his club and manager. He had told everyone he would shake hands and be done with it and then Dalglish gave an interview after the game assuming as such where he made a complete ### of himself. Obviously finding out afterwards that Suarez decided to go back on his word.I don't really have a good handle on how the EPL, racism, English culture, etc. all mix, but I have family in London so I get a bit of an insider's view. This is a big deal over there. The level of contempt for this guy outside of obviously Liverpool fans is apparently off the charts and the club is under a lot of media and apparently political pressure.

Like I said, I can't really wrap my head around how soccer, politics, and society are entertwined in England (or how they deal with racism to be honest). This whole situation doesn't make sense to me, but I would be surprised if he was still there at the beginning of next season.

Not to mention the company paying the shirt sponsorship is now calling Suarez out. That starts affecting the teams income and ability to buy players. I am sure another company would jump in if the current one pulls their $$, but I bet they use it to get a significantly reduced fee.
