My hatred grows darker every day. People wonder how I can hate Barça so much? #### like that.
"OK, I'm gonna kick it. You guys ready?"
I´m not pissed at anyone by Atletico. But that crap only happens for Barça I swear. They don't deserve 3 points today.
Barca's hit the post more than anyone else in La Liga this year. I'm fine with getting a good bounce/flag/non-call here or there. That said, they're still clearly nowhere near where they were last year.

So unlucky to lose today. But I'm proud of they way they battled. They're more cohesive and passionate than any time in the last 3 years, even when they were making that Europa Cup run. Just a few bounces, calls, or lack of brainfart and this game is a different outcome.

Ok I give up predicting a US lineup :)

Wahl is tweeting that Landon may also miss Italy game due to sickness. If true that brings US down to 14 field players. I am sure an updated roster should come soon.

Yup. Landon officially out. Torres and chandler as well. Shea and Sasha :wall: in.

Starting to think Landon is allergic to Dempsey/

Jones is out as well. Sounds like they will add more players besides Shea and Sacha tomorrow as they still only have 16 field players listed.

For people who enjoy keeping any eye out for emerging US talent, if you see a Revs game at all this year, watch for Kelyn Rowe.

He was the 3rd pick in the draft this year and has looked great in preseason.

He is a 20 year old skillful midfielder out of UCLA and because he was picked by the Revs he is pretty much a lock for a TON of minutes, which is exactly what he needs at this stage of his career.

He has played for the both the US U18's and U20's, scoring 3 times in 6 games for the U20's.

In 4 preseason matches, he has had a goal or assist in every game so far.
Just a follow up as his good preseason play continues. He had two more goals tonight in the Revs 2-0 win over NY. As it is just preseason, it is hard to get too excited but he is certainly starting on the right foot.
Nice goal here with his off foot. Go to 45 second mark in clip

Assume the US qualifies for the Olympics (never a sure thing as it literally comes down to winning one game, the semi finals of the qualifying tournament).

If they qualify, would you be in favor of the team using some or all of its allotment of 3 overage players or would you rather see the team go at with just the younger players?

I think I would prefer they go at it with just the younger players even though I am pretty sure they will use 3 over aged players.

I could see maybe giving somebody like Geoff Cameron a go at CB. He's "over age" but he could use more international experience in that position and I'm not all that hot on bringing up the absolute youngest CBs. I might also take someone like Beckerman although I suppose we'd ultimately like to see Kitchen take the DM job and make it his own. I can't really think of a position where I'd like to see an established MNT star over the prospect. Landon and Deuce only have so many International minutes left in their legs. I don't know how the Powers that Be envision using Freddy (I see him as a deep lying midfielder who defends but who also manages the transition from defense to offense) but I think it's essential to try to find that right position for guys like him, Shea, Diskerud, etc.

If there are any soccer fans in the KC area, I would highly recommend grabbing a ticket for the double header semifinals. That should be a really fun double header as each semi final will determine who qualifies for the Olympics.

CHICAGO (Feb. 27, 2012) – Individual game tickets for the semifinals and final matches of 2012 Men’s Olympic Qualifying at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan., will go on sale starting at 10 a.m. CT on Friday, March 2.The semifinal matches that determine CONCACAF’s two entrants to the 2012 Olympic Games in London will be played as a doubleheader event on Saturday, March 31, at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. CT. The U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team will play in the second semifinal match should the team advance out of Group A. The championship game will take place on Monday, April 2, at 7 p.m. CT.Fans can order Kansas City individual tickets online at ussoccer.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, at local Ticketmaster ticket centers in Kansas City and at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park’s ticket office (open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT). The two-date series ticket for the events in Kansas City will remain on sale until Wednesday, Feb. 29, at 2 a.m. CT and can be purchased through the same channels as individual tickets.

Comments from Klinsmann

On Jozy Altidore status within the national team after struggling to regularly start at AZ Alkmaar.Klinsmann was very clear that he was not happy with the forward not in the starting lineup recently with AZ Alkmaar and he added that the young forward needs to have good training habits."We want to see guys who fight for their spots," Klinsmann said. "That's the first message to Jozy when he gets here: We want you to be in the starting lineup. I'm not happy with it. I don't want to see you coming off the bench. He has to be ready in training every time. He can't be late. He can't be lazy. He can't be anything like that. This is what we want to see.""They'll hear that every time they come into the national team camp. If over the stretch of two and a half years toward Brazil we see maybe they don't get that message, they will have a problem."--On Sacha Kljestan's status with the US national team and why he has a tough time breaking into the team."Absolutely I know where he fits in," Klinsmann said. "But in his position, if it's the six or eight position, look at who we have. That's why it's tough for him to break in and it's tough for him to get into the starting lineup - even if he has a good season with Anderlecht. We see the games. We observe it.I have my scouts go and watch him. [uSMNT assistant coach Martín Vásquez] was just there at the Alkmaar game. But then we have Michael Bradley, we have Danny Williams, we have Maurice Edu, we have Kyle Beckerman, José Torres - all these players. So it's very, very tight. At the end of the day we decide who starts the game."--On Terrence Boyd's callup despite not having any first team games at Borussia Dotrmund, Klinsmann revealed that discussions with Caleb Porter and Dortmund head coach Jurgen Klopp both played a big role. He also felt it was important to have someone to compete with and push the team's other forwards in Jozy Altidore and Edson Buddle."The reason [for Boyd's callup] is that he's doing extremely well with the Under 23s at Borussia Dortmund. He's training with the first team. I spoke weeks ago with Jurgen Klopp, the Doturmund coach, he's full of praise for [boyd]. He was in a camp with the [uS] under 23's in November and did really, really well. He was outstanding there. I talked to the guys who ran the camp and I also talked with Caleb [Porter].""[Terrence Boyd] brings an energy to the group. He's a high-pressure player. He goes at defenders, he goes at people. That's what he loves to do. From there he wants to go in the box and finishes things off. I wanted to personally see him. I wanted to get a sense for him. I want to introduce him to the group, and even if he maybe doesn't play, but he gets a first feel of what it means to be part of the senior team group.""I want to push the envelope a little bit for the forward. I don't want anybody to feel comfortable. Not Jozy, not Edson, nobody."--On the Rangers situation and Carlos Bocanegra and Maurice EduIt's difficult for us right now. We're looking forward to both [Edu and Bocanegra] explaining to us a little about what's the inside of the club. Right now we're judging it from the outside - which we don't know how it works with a club going into administration. I'm curious to hear Carlos and Maurice explain to us the situation. As they play their games and as long as they are starters, I'm good with it."

Just finished Arsenal-Tottenham

I started it before I left for work this morning. Figured I could get 20 mins in then have less to watch when I got back. 5mins in and I felt like turning it off. I stuck with it though. Then igot back from work and restarted it. 10mins later felt like I was torturing myself, but also remembered Spurs comeback on Arsenal last year and thought, why not. Then it all came together. Wow. 5 unanswered. Don't want to read too much into it. Arsenal is always hot and cold so a good game does;t mean there isn;t a bad one around the corner. But felt GREAT to win that one.

Atletico.... Suck it, Z. That wasn't a hand ball by Busquets and you know it. Leave Ray Hudson out of that. That guy is great if you quit taking him so seriously. And what an awesome goal by Messi. Hard enough to hit that shot on the practice field by yourself, and he nailed it when he saw that window. Amazing kick. Good game though.

Still need to watch Milan-Juve tomorrow.

Wednesday should be a fun day off. We can get one TV in the bar on the England-Holland game. Going to hit some breweries after the early game and back to the bar for the U23 game.

Glad you stuck it out for the Arsenal/Spurs game. It was a fun one. That was clearly a handball by Busquets. Look at this image: http://s01.s3c.es/imag/_v2/ecodiario/deportes/560x400-directos/busquets-mano-2012.jpg He clearly punches the ball with his fist.

Messi's play was damn smart, and Atlético should have been paying more attention. Still is a crappy way to lose to a team like Barça after outplaying them for most of the second half and some of the first half.

I want to see the England Holland game but I can't pass up US Italy. I will try and watch England Holland on DVR if I don't get spoilers.

Italy lineup for USA game (per Prandelli): Buffon; Maggio, Barzagli, Ogbonna, Criscito; Nocerino, Pirlo, Marchisio; Motta; Giovinco, Matri.

Personally, I'd like to see the best possible team that they could field.

Both Donovan and Boca have publicly spoken that they would like to play if called. Boca would likely be available, where as Landon would have to get permission from LA.

I'm torn on the overage players thing. If the goal is solely to win, I think they should pick Howard, Donovan/Dempsey and Bocanegra. CB is probably the weakest spot and they need the leadership.

But at this point, they have to start thinking about life after these guys, so I'd be tempted to let Hamid (or whoever they pick) get the experience in goal and let the younger attacking players do their thing.

I am very interested to see them play tomorrow night against Mexico which should be a great test for the kids who will be with out likely 2 starters in Boyd and Shea who are both in Italy.

Have to admit I felt a little bad for you watching them lose the game. Seems like that game is a good glimpse at what being an Atletico fan is. Would love to see that team get better and become competitive for the season rather than a game here or there. They always seem to have the talent to compete. They played Barca with no fear too.

It's going to be a good day to watch soccer. I'm getting off work early (not planned for the soccer, but worked out that way) so I will watch the Germany v France match live on the computer. Then I'll watch the US v Italy match, then the England v Netherlands match.

I would watch the US match first and live, but I know ESPN will run their ticker with spoiler scores.

My wife made me an ESPN2 ticker blocker out of some material that I can attach to the tv. Won't matter though today as I am sure I will see the score when talking about the US game. Only a friendly so no real biggie. It still kills me in this day and age where the vast majority of people can find scores easier on their mobile devices that ESPN2 continues to litter the screen with the ticker.

Advisory: Due to a programming change, tonight’s U-23 #USMNT match v. MEX will now be on TeleFutura. Kickoff at the same time: 9 p.m. CT.

International friendlies are the worst.

There, I said it.

Club soccer is about 500x better. International breaks are pretty effing excruciating outside of the WC

Some important WCQing results today:

South Korea had a chance to get knocked out already from the WCQing but got the win against Kuwait which puts them in the next round of qualifying.

Saudi Arabia was knocked out of WCQing by Australia, and Oman slid through in their place.

The following Asian teams are through to the next round of qualifying.

Jordan, Iraq, South Korea, Lebenon, Uzbekistan, Japan, Australia, Oman, and Iran.

One of Qatar and Bahrain will also advance.

Fernando Torres got dropped from Spain. Yikes! I was so happy when pool sold him to my hated Chelsea but now I almost feel bad for him.

One of Qatar and Bahrain will also advance.
Interesting sitting here half a world away watching a ticker and the World Cup fate of countries.Bahrain hammering Indonesia 9-0 and Iran beating Qatar 2-1 putting Bahrain through and Qatar out.Qatar scoring to equalize in the 86th putting then trough and Bahrain out.Bahrain making it 10-0 in stoppage time.Bahrain match over, and Qatar into stoppage time. Bahrain holding their breath and hoping.Qatar draw 2-2 with Iran to advance.

It's a friendly, so it's nothing major. Del Bosque wants to get a look at some other players. If this was a qualifying match, then that might be something.BTW, Torres needs to go on loan this summer unless he turns it around at the finish of the season.
