Fascinating! A guy on Big Soccer speculated that we might see the likely Mexico US WCQier in Mexico on this channel if it comes to fruition.

10:30 a.m. | Updated The Walt Disney Company’s ABC News division and Univision have tentatively agreed to create an English-language cable television channel for Hispanics in the United States.

The companies, which will each own 50 percent of the joint venture, said Monday morning that the channel — which is, as yet, unnamed — would start sometime in the first half of 2013. Ben Sherwood, the president of ABC News, said it would be “a 24/7 news, information and lifestyle network primarily in English that will serve the youngest and fastest-growing demographic in the country: U.S. Hispanics.”

The problem I have with following the USMNT is that they play so sporadically, and the games that have any real stakes are even more sporadic.
yeah. These 5 US games this summer is like being married for 20 years and then all of sudden going on a honeymoon with another woman
So it's friendlies and WC qualifying, correct? Friendlies really don't interest me much. In any sport.

Yes three friendlies that prepare the team for 2 WCQiers. I will enjoy these three friendlies more than most since they are so important in preparing the squad.

Isn't every friendly/exhibition preparing a team for something?

Not really. Many times they are not the full squad and are used for experimentation of new/different players, formations etc. These three friendlies will have the best players Klinsmann wants to use for the first time since he has been a coach because they lead directly to 2 world cup qualifiers. It will be one long camp.

The designated player rule. Each team can pay up to three players as much as they want and the player will only eat up 350k of the salary cap. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Designated_Player_RuleIt is how the league is able to sign and keep players like Becks, Keane, Henry, Beckham, Frings, Donovan, Marquez etc. Those type players could never be in the league with out a rule that circumvents the salary cap.

Can you explain more how you feel that it is the league orchestrating this? It is my understanding that every team has the same chances to sign who they want following the designated player rule. There is no one stopping Kraft from signing a big name player, but that is not in his budget. RSL chooses to spend their money on depth rather than big name players and you would have to look long and hard for anyone to think NY is running a better program than RSL is no matter the money difference. The league is less single entity today than at anytime in mls's history as all the power has shifted to the individual owners to allow for teams to grow how they want to.LA decided early they wanted to be the glamour club and to their credit, that has allowed them to bring in more revenue than any one else. NE has decided to run the team on a shoestring budget over the years and to their credit, they are slowly killing the sport in this region.

Germany coach Joachim Löw has announced a 27-man provisional squad for UEFA EURO 2012. Löw has called up four goalkeepers and 23 outfield players in his initial selection. He hinted that he is likely to wait until 29 May before confirming his final party to travel to Poland and Ukraine, with Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern München contesting the German Cup final on Saturday, and Bayern also facing Chelsea FC in the UEFA Champions League showpiece a week later.Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer (FC Bayern München), Tim Wiese (SV Werder Bremen), Marc-André ter Stegen (VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach), Ron-Robert Zieler (Hannover 96).Defenders: Holger Badstuber (FC Bayern München), Jérôme Boateng (FC Bayern München), Benedikt Höwedes (FC Schalke 04), Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund), Marcel Schmelzer (Borussia Dortmund), Philipp Lahm (FC Bayern München), Per Mertesacker (Arsenal FC).Midfielders: Lars Bender (Bayer 04 Leverkusen), Sven Bender (Borussia Dortmund), Toni Kroos (FC Bayern München), Thomas Müller (FC Bayern München), Mesut Özil (Real Madrid CF), Sami Khedira (Real Madrid CF), Marco Reus (VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach), André Schürrle (Bayer 04 Leverkusen), Bastian Schweinsteiger (FC Bayern München), Julian Draxler (FC Schalke 04), Mario Götze (Borussia Dortmund), İlkay Gündoğan (Borussia Dortmund), Lukas Podolski (1. FC Köln).Forwards: Cacau (VfB Stuttgart), Miroslav Klose (S.S. Lazio), Mario Gomez (FC Bayern München).

Someone mention the English relegation battle earlier. Here is some more information

Only one spot left to be settled between two clubs (Aston Villa is safe with an 17 GD buffer)

Bolton on 35 points

QPR on 37 points

QPR stays up with win or draw, or a Bolton loss or draw

Bolton stay up with win and QPR loss

While it looks bad for Bolton they lucked out a bit on the schedule for QPR. QPR has to go to Man City where Man City is likely to run rampant in trying to secure the league title.

So I think it is all going to come down to Bolton's game where they travel to Stoke.

Why do the Krafts still own the team? It seems they are only interested in the Patriots.
It is unknown to the fan base.It is likely a combination of them not really losing any money on the team (small budget offsets the small attendance), and the fact that there may not be anyone who wants to buy the team. The only small hope the fans have is that the Kraft's are supposedly continually looking for a site to build in Boston at which point obviously everything about the franchise would change.Up until the time they get their own stadium, they will tread water while the rest of the league continues to find ways to grow. This specific parcel of land is likely to be where they want to build. Ikea has had its hands on this for a while but it just came out this week that Ikea is likely to not build here opening up enough room for a stadium in Sommerville which is as down town as you can get considering the space needed. The pic below overlays LiveStrong Sporting Park in the space.http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/1645/ikeae.jpg

I know most of the household name players from the big countries but I am going to have to brush up significantly on the rosters for Euro 2012 to prepare for the fantasy Tasker wants to play.

Does anyone have a good Euro 2012 specific site they would recommend?

NY Red Bulls representatives have just arrived at Milano for starting negotiations with both Zambrotta & Nesta.

Mjolnirs - what's your projected starting 11 for the Germans?
That's a super tough question. We all know for sure that Neuer will be in goal.

Defenders - The captain is Lahm so we know he'll start. Seeing as Badstuber and Boetang (and Lahm) play together on a regular basis it would make sense to start all three, but then I do have a Bayern bias. I would find it hard to keep Hummels and Mertesacker off the field too. If they go with both of the last two I think Badstuber comes off.

Midfield - What a load of talent! Kroos, Müller, Özil, Khedira, Reus, Schürrle, Schweinsteiger, Götze, Podolski! Who do you sit?

Forward - Again a tough question. I would go with Gomez, who is in form with 26 goals, but national team lightning in a bottle Klose is a machine on the international level. If you go with two up front then that's one less midfielder, and I can't see that happening.

Thanks, now my head hurts!

It is super tough, which is why I asked. So much talent to pick from. And so young, too. Only 3 players 30 or over - Klose, Wiese and Cacau - and of those only Klose is significant. The team will be pretty much fully intact for 2014, and most of it for 2016 and 18 as well.

I'd go with:Gomez

Kroos - Ozil - Muller

Khedira - Schweinsteiger

Lahm - Hummels - Mertesacker - Boetang

A lot of room for fluidity in the back and attacking mids.

Pretty close to what I was thinking. I think the Schweinsteiger-Khedira pairing is a must, provides so much versatility in the middle. Ozil is too good not to start on any team, and Muller should probably be in there as well. The last winger is the toughest call as you could easily go Kroos, Gotze, Schurrle, Reus or Podolski.I like Gomez as the striker too, with Klose as the late sub option.

An American won't be purchasing Rangers after all.

Bill Miller, a Tennessee-based businessman who appeared poised to take over as new head of Rangers after his bid was accepted by Rangers administrators last week, withdrew that bid on Tuesday, putting the club back in a tenuous and precarious situation when it appeared that it was finally ready to take significant steps forward. Miller's bid was accepted for it being the one most capable of getting Rangers out of financial turmoil and back to stable ground, but it was not a popular one with supporters given his lack of connection to the club.

"As soon as I was announced as preferred bidder for Rangers, my team began to press ahead with our due diligence," Miller said in a statement. "Until then, information had been limited to what was made available in the internet data room and questions addressed to the administrators and their staff.

"By late Monday night, it became clear to me that preliminary information, discussions and analysis were, unfortunately, more optimistic than reality. Having no intention of negatively affecting the potential outcome of the club's future and after hearing the message from Rangers supporters and fans loud and clear ("Yank go home!"), I notified the administrators today that I have withdrawn my bid for Rangers and will not be moving forward."

Yeah, that Khedira-Schweinsteiger paring is the only thing really set in stone if they're fit. One thing to note is that Ozil has been less effective down the stretch in La Liga so it will be interesting to watch. I think Kroos has been coming on stronger for Bayern this year. Lots of opitions.

I read the word "mostly" as covering the Mexican based players. I don't think we have any international level players outside of Europe, MLS and MFL.

Yank go home, really? Do they not realize how ####ed their club is? Rangers ceasing to exist is a potential outcome here. They should be welcoming any bidders, whether they're from the US, Qatar, Botswana, Uzbekistan or wherever.

While we're on the subject, I've got to think Germany is the favorite right now unless the Spanish players find a way to regain their energy.

Yank go home, really? Do they not realize how ####ed their club is? Rangers ceasing to exist is a potential outcome here. They should be welcoming any bidders, whether they're from the US, Qatar, Botswana, Uzbekistan or wherever.
This extraordinarily ignorant sentiment from their fan base is going to make the upcoming US Scotland game more fun for many US fans :)

JK reiterated that he is not married to a 4-3-3 anymore. Which is good because I don't think it fits the US particular skill set at this time.

Yikes. From Ives. =============An American won't be purchasing Rangers after all.Bill Miller, a Tennessee-based businessman who appeared poised to take over as new head of Rangers after his bid was accepted by Rangers administrators last week, withdrew that bid on Tuesday, putting the club back in a tenuous and precarious situation when it appeared that it was finally ready to take significant steps forward. Miller's bid was accepted for it being the one most capable of getting Rangers out of financial turmoil and back to stable ground, but it was not a popular one with supporters given his lack of connection to the club."As soon as I was announced as preferred bidder for Rangers, my team began to press ahead with our due diligence," Miller said in a statement. I think the supporters prefer the Kennedy/Blue Knights consortium.I doubt fan reaction was the dealbreaker for Miller. Owners have dealt with hostile fans for decades. My guess is he got a better look at the books and saw what a cluster this is.

While we're on the subject, I've got to think Germany is the favorite right now unless the Spanish players find a way to regain their energy.
So who does Spain start?GK: CasillasD: Arbeola, Ramos, Pique, AlbaDM: Alonso, BusquetsAM: Iniesta, Silva, Mata (Xavi probably comes off the bench at this point? Cesc?)F: Soldado or Llorente (Villa?)Pretty strong, except for the back line, but I like Germany more. Here are SB's odds, FWTW: Spain+250Germany+300Netherlands+700England+900France+1200Italy+1200Portugal+1600Russia+2200Croatia+4000Ukraine+4000Poland+5000Sweden+6600Czech Republic+6600Republic of Ireland+6600Greece+6600Denmark+8000

Yeah that seems to be clear from his comment "By late Monday night, it became clear to me that preliminary information, discussions and analysis were, unfortunately, more optimistic than reality."

Houston opens its new stadium on Saturday. Game will be shown on NBCSN at 4:30 pm eastern.

Here is a fantastic looking short video of the new stadium. IMO, it is in the top 3 in country with LiveStrong and Red Bull Arena.

The way I look at it is more like what gpj posted- even though some friendlies are with a b-side or trying something out, that's all for a purpose of making the overall team better. Maybe we get a look at some guys that will feature later or maybe we get to see a sample of how the team will play tactically later. That may not be on the same level as guys who will play in WCQ or th WC suiting up right before those events, but to me it's still important. And part of what makes it so important and live-and-bleed for me is back to the point that there just aren't many games. So yes, every game becomes important at a massive level (to me). If they were playing 50 games a year, I'm pretty sure I would care far less if they have a slump.

I should point out that I'm less to not interested in the results of a lot of friendlies the US plays- but I'm still with my heart in my hands over how they're playing,

I would prefer a 4-3-3 with Barcelona's midfield along with Soldado at #9 flanked by Silva and Mata. I think they are likely to do two DMs and a 4-5-1 though, with Llorente up top.
