I don't get why people get worked up about the draws.

There is a likely chance they are rigged, even slightly (anything with FIFA's or UEFA's hands in it is questionable IMO), but I doubt you are going to come up with any system that won't come up with a group of death every now and then.

Look at the NCAA b-ball tourny, invariably one of the brackets is significantly harder than the other three.

The whole thing is rigged for established teams. I think it should be based on the quality of the current team, but that's not how the system works.Barca, United, and Milan got great draws, but that's going to happen more often than not. Real Madrid got a tough draw (not that it matters much), but you can see how the system created that. Barca, United, or Chelsea could have easily been put into the same spot.

It would be much better if they'd just throw the teams in hat and pick randomly.

It's luck of the draw same as it is for other tournaments. You can complain about their domestic competition but Porto has done well enough in Champions and Europa Leagues to justify their pool 1 status. Arsenal is similarly rewarded for their consistency in the Champions League play. Dortmund, Ajax and Juventus are big rich clubs but the bottom line is they haven't had enough recent results in European Competition. The seeding system goes back five years. Manchester City was in the bottom half of the league back then.That's the system. Teams have six games to prove their seedings were unfair. If they do that and manage to qualify again next year, they'll move up the pecking order.

It's not the fact that there's a group of death, it's how it's chosen. If it was a purely random, fans/teams wouldn't have anything to gripe about but sheer luck. With the formulas and pots people get all :tinfoilhat: Not only should they avoid impropriety, they should avoid the appearance of impropriety.

It's not the fact that there's a group of death, it's how it's chosen. If it was a purely random, fans/teams wouldn't have anything to gripe about but sheer luck. There's never been anything in the NCAA tournament that's been remotely close to Group D. Kentucky, Syracuse, and North Carolina didn't all end up in the same bracket this year.I don't see what's so hard on seeding teams based on their current strength. Nor do I understand the good of seeding teams semi-randomly. I don't necessarily think it's rigged, and UEFA probably uses soccer luminaries to open up the balls to reinforce this. It's just a nutty system.

Less than 24 hours after this has come rumors that the team is thinking of moving (San Diego, Arizona were rumored) and the press reported that the GM was fired today, although it looks like it has not yet been confirmed.As a fan of the league I would be highly in favor of a move, specifically if it comes with a rebrand. The "Chivas USA" was worth a questionable gamble at the time but they need to admit that it did not work. While they were wasting money chasing a latino fan base that was not interested, many other teams in the league were building their fans bases leaving Chivas USA wondering what happened.

If they move to San Diego the "Chivas USA" shtick could work, imo. There are tons of soccer fans out here as evidence by the TV ratings and when Friendlies come to town and sell out.

Mancini says he's gonna make 5 deals today...because his team is lacking talent.

Dempsey saga gotta come to an end today, one way or the other.

I like Maicon, but these signings by City just boggle my mind.

Maicon is 31, and when he's on the field, he's a tough back to handle...but more often than not of late he's been injured. I guess with all the depth City have, that could be good for him to get some rest, but their defense was great last year, I just don't know why they want to constantly #### about with it :shrug:

 
Yeah, I'm actually not a fan at all of the Maicon signing. It's not 2009. And that's City's deepest position. Zabaleta is a terrific defensive right back. Mancini obviously hates Richards, as he's benched him since February, but everyone else seemed to think he was a revelation last season.

as the owner of Sinclair in the fantasy league, I don't find this funny at all :)But I fear it may be true. Hopefully Nasri can twist an ankle or something.Sinclair is too good and too young to be pulling splinters out of his butt, however, I am sure he is going to be well compensated to do so.
