Tough to dislike Spurs on a player-by-player basis. I'm liking Sigurdsson, Bale is one of the most exciting players out there, Dempsey is obviously a USMNT favorite.

 
Not sure I agree with the straight red to Huddlestone. Studs were up a bit, but I didn't think there was enough malice to warrant a red. Yellow, sure.

Hope Norwich can somehow grab a winner here.

I'll take that as speculation for now. We'll have to see how they play once their new players are in place but the team sure isn't playing well at the moment. Today's Opta factoid: Andre Villas-Boas has picked up only three wins from his last 15 Premier League matches as a manager
 
Weekly AFC Wimbledon update

The Dons were held at home 2-2 vs. Dagenham & Redbridge. A better showing than their last two blowouts but 4 pts in 4 games has me concerned.

Their big deadline day acquisition was a loan deal for Norwich defender George Francomb who has some SPL experience. Help is needed after giving up 13 goals in their last three.

I don't know how he really came up with that. He seemed to be basing it on the disposition and mentality of the players. I don't think anyone actually told him that AVB was losing the locker room.

He's never liked AVB so it's not really surprising. It's possible he's correct, but I think he's only guessing.Tottenham actually played well at Newcastle, mediocre against West Brom, and very poor today. Strangely enough the line-up was very negative today. That's normally not AVB's style.My concern is that AVB simply doesn't have the managerial experience to get teams from their current tactics to his tactics in any kind of organized way. It's a bit early to judge though.The squad itself is on par with what they had last year so AVB really doesn't have any big excuses for putting out a poor season.

This is an interesting question. It is hard to define exactly what feature means but I think Kries would be near or at the top of that list.Even though he had 36 caps, over 10 year period, I always though Ralston was a player who seemed like he could have helped the Nats more than he did. As for active players, Brad Davis probably is the best player who never really got a chance with the Nats.

Jeff Cunningham's in that conversation too. He was 25 when he got his citizenship, but never did anything with the USNT.

Neither Landon or Dempsey are going to be match fit for the qualifiers which means even if they are on the roster neither may start

I think Floppo said it best. I don't think there is a worse league in the world than the Championship in England to make Ream look bad. Everything he does well is not welcome and everything he struggles with is going to be exploited.

Jones scored to help Schalke to a win today. The US needs him at his best (and level headed) in these two qualifiers.

The Concacaf refs continue to be very dodgy concerning US teams. The 4 American MLS teams have played 8 CCL games so far. In those games the MLS teams have received 3 red cards and conceded 3 pk's (the red cards were not related to the pk's). No PK's or red cards in favor of the MLS teams.

Jones loses his head for a second and the US could be in a load of trouble.

Thanks. I was thinking it might have been a player tied to the remarkable run Watford made in the late 70's/early 80's but then I realized that there was no Champions League back then.
 
Liverpool are so much more composed than Arsenal. Looks like only a matter of time until they score.

I like these Arsenal away jerseys though; I'm considering buying one.

 
My first half thoughts:

- Diaby looks fantastic, best player on the field for Arsenal thus far.

- Still not a lot of chance creation except from Cazorla and Podolski. Still nothing much from the wings. Gibbs has been active and I like it, but he has looked really out of sync with Giroud. Ox has been effectively silent and neglected to get back in defense a few times that I saw; I'd love to see Walcott check in soon.

- Jenkinson looks surprisingly competent defensively against Sterling. Sterling looks good and has probably overall had the better of it between the two, but Jenkinson is holding his own and hasn't been a defensive liability so far today.

- Mertesacker still sucks and has given the ball away a few times, but that slide in the box was a world-class challenge.

- I still don't know how to feel about Giroud. At the very least, he's not a useless pylon like Chamakh. Still, though, he kinda just looks like a new version of Nicklas Bendtner, except he's not as good a dribbler or finisher. Who needs those qualities anyway, right? Hopefully it's just nerves and he'll settle in.

 
lol at Jenkinson and Skrtel pushing and shoving in the box on that corner. Looked like some skinny hipster trying to outmuscle a skinhead.

 
Some random thoughts about Liverpool ... have seen all five of their games this season...

--Reina isn't making the big save. He's not exactly at fault on a lot of goals, but there are stoppable shots he's not keeping out.

--Gerrard has transformed from talisman, a guy who gave your team the belief it would win and often won the game himself, to icon. He's still useful, but probably needs to be supporting a better midfielder at this point in his career instead of being relied on.

--Suarez squanders a lot of chances. He looks so good doing it that it's easy to miss, but he either loses the ball during the buildup or misses good chances quite often.

--Sterling is an exciting and skilled player, but off the top of my head I can't think of anyone his size that was a difference maker for a top three team. He's not just short, he's small. DeMarcus Beasley small. Could end up being more of a luxury player.

--This team will really regret not completing a deal for a forward before the transfer window closed.

--Skrtl and Agger are a good pairing, but average EPL CBs individually.

--The outside backs, Johnson and Enrique, are arguably the best players on the team at this point, with the possible exception of...

--Joe Allen is a classy, tidy, excellent player. He wins a lot of balls and his distribution under pressure is outstanding. Really enjoy watching these kinds of players.

--All in all I don't see any way Liverpool challenge for a CL spot this year, and it wouldn't surprise me if they finish as low as 8th again. It's a long season, so they'll probably pull it together but it really just doesn't look like there's enough talent right now.

I actually thought to myself that Gerrard looked a little bit heftier than the last few years, like he's bulked up a bit. He went 90 minutes so he's obviously fit, but I barely saw him at all out there.I agree on Allen, too. Very solid player.
