Yikes. I am almost glad this did not go through. Not sure they would have seen any real return on such a huge investment. Avi Creditor (@AviCreditor)9/7/12 12:34 PMSpeaking at Bloomberg Sports Business Summit yesterday, MLS commissioner Don Garber says MLS offered Drogba more than $10 million/year. Wow.
Good way to get the continent of Africa to follow your league. I remember seeing some kind of documentary on African soccer, and it was astonishing how the loyalties jumped national borders... lots of Chelsea shirts and fans across the continent. And in terms of MLS, possibly a new source for players who are interested in playing here.

You'd think FSG/'Pool would think along the same lines, in re: Dempsey. It's not like they don't have a ton of cash lying around now, as of a couple weeks ago.

I agree. It is the salary that is shocking. More than twice as much as the next higher paid player in Henry. More than Becks salary at his peak (although Becks had some other things tied in).I think that money would have seen a better return if spent on someone like Ronaldihno three years ago or so.I assume it must have been LA who offered this even though it was not specified.

A lot of the Africans' shirts say Chelsea-2008 Champions League Winners

Doesn't LA already have three DPs?
Yes but they would have found a way if they wanted too (sold Landon in summer or more likely just changed the rules some how to accommodate). LA was the team that has constantly pushed the boundaries to get the DP program started and it's slow expansion. No one can figure out how they have accumulated what they have as it is under the rules. And they just some how signed Christian Wilhelmsson and fit him under the cap. He played in Euro 2012 for Sweden this summer.

lol.And yet, none of them say Chelsea-2012 Champions League Winners.

Bulgaria is up 1-0 on Italy and Latvia up 1-0 on Greece are the only real upsets brewing right now across UEFA.

Why do the schedule makers hate Southampton? Holy crap.

August

18 Man City (A)

25 Wigan (H)

September

1 Man Utd (H)

15 Arsenal (A)

Bulgaria ended up 2-2 with Italy. I think that may have been the only surprising final score so far today that I have seen.

Honduras finally woke up and spanked Cuba 3-0 putting them back in the race in their group.

I cocked an eyebrow at that Portugal score.
Still got the three points away from home though. In the end that is an ok result even against weak competition.
I suppose it's typical for Portugal.I didn't see any of the game, but Bulgaria statistically dominated Italy it looks like.

ESPN headline: Are You Still Sad? :lmao:

ECU-BOL is frustrating to watch. Ecuador is controlling play. Bolivia packing the box defensively. Ecuador refuses to use the wings and keeps trying to either march through a forest of opposing players or launch an ineffective shot from waayyy out.

Ecuador gets a PK finally.

Wow, a real game with no Boca and no Donovan(obviously) starting. It has been a long long time since that happened.

Jesus, just realized no Cherundolo either. Interesting because even at his advanced age I think he is quicker than Parkhurst.

Ok this makes more sense. A great test for the US depth missing 4 normal starters.

FYI, Cherundolo is not in the #usmnt lineup due to a calf strain.

I have Bein but they are showing Argentina v Uruguay and everything is in Spanish. Anyone else seeing that too? They are advertising USA v JAM at 1145p. WTH??

It's Comcast 621 and the channel guide shows that it is supposed to be USA v JAM.
