I'm in the Bay Area for work this week. Anyone familiar with the area care to recommend a good bar to catch tomorrow's match at? Staying in Walnut Creek.

Gah, no idea. I could give you some suggestions if you were closer to SF, but I don't know much about the 680 corridor. Z might be able to help. Otherwise I'd just find a good spurts bar on Yelp.

My hotel is right across the street from the BART and I'll be in SF for work tomorrow. I'm guessing I'll need to catch it in the city anyways given the time.

Oh yeah, stay in the city and avoid the crowded train. Have a nice meal for yourself.Where will you be in SF, generally speaking?

A couple of blocks from Montgomery station.

My normal spot was always Steff's on 2nd St., they're very soccer-friendly. Not much in the way of food options, but there's lots of food around there, incl. a sandwich place next door. Lots of TV's, pool table, it's very much a "bar", and not a hip/expensive yuppie dickbag watering hole.

Don't know anything on the other side of the east bay hills, but if you can make it to San Leandro, there's a pub called The Englander that is pretty good. Alternstively, you could BART into the city, get off at Civic Center anf cab or bus it over to Mad Dog in the Fog on lower Haight. Those arr my top 2 places to watch footy.

Agreed. Stay in the city, and head over to Mad Dog. You can drink there, but there's also Toronado down the block on Haight. As you might expect, there's a ton of good to great restaurants in the area. You want a dinner rec.? What time (local) is the game?A couple of blocks from Montgomery station.

Klinsmann announced that both Bocanegra and Cherundolo will be starting tonight. Goodson is suspended on yellow cards accumulation.

No other starting lineup changes were mentioned yet. It would be ironic if the only changes that were made were in the back 4.

Huge amount of games today as Asia starts back up.

First results are in and as usual, New Zealand picks up first win of day with easy 6-1 score line.

Japan beat Iraq 1-0 to give them a stranglehold on the lead in group B (top 2 teams in each group qualify).

At least JK now understands the importance of Bradley in the MF. For a while there he wasn't giving Bradley his due IMHO.

I would expect to see some changes in the MF, I also expect Beckerman to be wearing a dunce hat on the sidelines.

Explain this to me like I'm shuke: Spain is playing against Georgia in a WC Qualifier, isn't Spain in already since they're the defending champs? TIA.
No- they changed taht particular rule in the last WC or two.eta: and I, for one, like the change. I think teams should have to earn their way in every cycle... except for the host, of course. Unless we're talking about Qatar.

Yeah, any recomendations would be cool. Just going off what coworkers say so far.

Mad Dog is a good choice. Kezar Pub is a bit further out.I'm not as familiar with downtown places. I've watched games before at the Chieftain on 5th & Howard. I suspect they'll change the channel to the Giants game when it starts.

as a general rule I don't really root against teams per say.Qatar is the exception for me. I want them to fail in so many different ways I can't begin to type them all :)

Sadly they are doing fairly well in qualifying so far and may have a chance to qualify directly from Asia. Hopefully they can at least come in 3r in the group which makes the road much more difficult to qualify (home and home against other 3rd place Asian team and then home and home against South American team).

Austria v Germany

Austria: Almer, Garics, Pogatetz, ***hs, Ivanschitz, Arnautovic, Junuzovic, Harnik, Baumgartinger, Prödl, Kavlak

Germany: Neuer, Schmelzer, Hummels, Khedira, Özil, Klose, Müller, Badstuber, Lahm, Kroos, Reus

:unsure:Can't tell if serious or not. New rule only gives host county an auto bid.
I did not know this. Spain played a friendly last week, I just assumed they were sitting out qualifiers.
They're in UEFA Group I which has an odd number of teams.

Brilliant strike, but England got robbed. I hope we can get the equalizer here.

That was the strangest give away I have ever seen that led to the Galazo by Ukraine.

Ukraine player was on the ground, head down, butt up, and Lescott passes right to the guys butt, who some how controlled it got right up and started the counter.

Semi-related to football: There was a rally for Catalan independence in Barcelona today that was attended by 1.5m people.
I wonder if Barca would remain a power if they gained independence and was booted from La Liga?

England's crossing has been atrocious...I often wonder what a Beckham would bring to the table.

On another note, I wish we had Freddy Adu on the pitch this evening instead of Beckerman.

There's this team called Real Madrid that isn't too shabby.
They need each other.

yeah I am officially nervous for tonight :)

The tweets say the atmosphere should be good tonight. Lots of US shirts have been spotted in Columbus today, weather is good and the field is in good condition. Hopefully the 24k in attendance can help lift the US team to a significantly better performance than Friday.

That being said I would be more than happy with 3 points even if it get scored off the refs knee from a clearance.
