Aron Johannsson has scored 11 goals in 11 games in Denmark's Superliga this season. Johannson was born in Alabama and moved to Iceland at 3, but then came back to US to play at the IMG academy. He is 21 years old. He has represented Iceland at the U21 level but recently said if Klinsmann called him in it would be tough to turn down. He would have to apply for a one time switch. However Iceland have qualifiers coming up soon. If he is capped in any of those games, he is tied to them.Media in Iceland has said that Klinsmann has contacted him.
Johannsson scored again today making it 12 in 12 games. He is the leading scorer in the league.
Thanks for the info this kid andy. Itll suck when he stays w iceland.Jozy will be on ESPN Deportes tomorrow

Arsenal defense>oooooof
Yep, but once he got free it was a great goal.Amusing how the commentators started trying to pronounce Cazorla's name with the "th" but now drifting in and out of "z" and "th".
Yeah, very nice finish, Ramsey was lazy.Giroud FINALLY gets his first EPL goal.
Dunno abou t lazy- seemed like he covered a lot of ground there and woked hard. He just got beaten. Badly. And arsenals zonal marking on set pieces... :loco: ... yeah- no need to put a body on the 6'6" aerial threat. Much beter to just let him get a running unobstructed free header.
Lazy was a bit unfair. I just didn't like how he got beaten and just kinda watched Diame walk in towards the 6. I don't care how much ground you've covered, he at least has to body him a little bit.

I still don't get why Walcott doesn't start for this team. That's a prime example what I've meant when I've said "he's vastly improved his finishing in the past year and a half".

If anybosy was lazy or at fault imo, it was the second defender... Mertesacker?... who got to the man late.

NY vs Chicago is on NBC (the mother ship network, not NBCSN) at 3:30pm eastern today.

With both teams level on 51 points and only 3 games left in season, this game could determine home field advantage in the playoffs.

Junior Flores, arguably the best player in the entire US youth system, has signed a 4 year deal with Borussia Dortmund that will commence when he turns 18 years old. He is 16 right now.

He also signed a 2 year deal with Nike.

He is currently training with the US U17's.

Some of us got to see him play last year if memory serves and was relatively impressive especially as a 15 year old.

Appeared to be very gifted from a technical and tactical stand point when we saw him play. But if memory serves me correct, he's TINY and there's some concern about how good he'll ever get from a strength/speed stand point. Still, cool to see him get a shot with a big club. Hopefully he doesn't just get buried over there.

It is interesting you mentioned that because I had the exact same memory of him being microscopic but I just watched him play on YouTube and while smaller than most players, he was was not ultra small, and if memory serves he was also the youngest player on the field. I can't find his current height.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SQaWSVZ9H8http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gpdd7J7v2PY

GPJ, what's that site you posted where you can download games without spoilers? I can't watch El Classico tomorrow. Doubt I make it home without it getting ruined, but I'm going to try.

Is it torrent based? I don't have any torrent software...

What channel is showing The Classico?

*Landon hurt his knee tonight and had to be subbed out. They need to do tests on it either tomorrow or Monday but there is a good chance he is going to miss the two qualifiers.

*Wondo had a hat trick tonight giving him 25 on the season. He is two away from the all time MLS record, which was set way back in 1996 by Roy Lassiter.

*Shea is out and may also miss the qualifiers. No official word on Jones but internet rumor is saying he is out as well. Will have to wait until Monday I guess to see if he is available.

Worst case is no Donovan, Shea, Jones and a Bradley who has not played in a while. On the positive side, most every one else is playing pretty well for their clubs.

No Donovan and Shea means Zusi may get another chance on the crap field in Antigua.

Watched the replay... I was wrong. Ramsey's reaction after getting beat was really slow- lazy even. Yeah, he worked hard before getting beat, but then just seemed to give up- embarrassed probably. Don't know if it would have helped, but given the time Diame had before shooting, maybe it would have.

I turned that game on about a minute before LD got hurt. Didn't seem like there was any twisting- seemed like it was more about knocking knees together and getting that short term stinger and not taking any chances in the last minutes. I hope that's the case, at least. No Bradley, Jones or LD... what does the MF look like now?Zusi, Edu/Beckerman, Williams, Torres? If I'm Guat, I'm liking my chances against a MF of mostly second choice guys and forwards who don't score. Hell- I'm thinking the same thing if I'm Antigua.

Not a good sitch for the USMNT. I hope Bradley can be effective. Has he played minutes lately for Roma?

Zusi looked better than Beckman, who I wouldn't want to play against Guat, and but could see against Antigua. Can Demps drop back and have 2 strikers in front of him? Can those two strikers be effective up top together?

Sometimes injuries force formation changes. Can Zusi play on the wing or would you slot Demps there on the right with Torres on the left with Zusi and Edu clogging up the middle? I bring off with Edu or a striker in the second half for Bradley depending on the score.

Up until this morning Bradley had not played a minute in a long time. Luckily he got the start today, went 72 minutes and scored a goal. I did not see the game so I am unsure why he was subbed.

Here is one guess at a lineup Klinsmann might use if Jones and Donovan not available.

..................Howard

Cher.....Cam........Boca........Fab

...................Williams

............Bradley..........Torres

.......Zusi............................Dempsey

........................Herc

It should be noted that Gomez has also not been playing for Santos much at all. He did get the start though yesterday and scored.

I only put him in the lineup ahead of Jozy because I think that is what Klinsmann will do. Gomez's work rate might be valuable on the poor pitch in Antigua.

Iceland just got Chandlered :)

“@BrianSciaretta: American Aron Johannsson has withdrawn from Iceland's WCQ roster due to "lingering injuries" - he still remains eligible for the #USMNT”

I think I'd be willing to start both Herc and Jozy up top against Antigua assuming neither Jones nor Bradley is 100%. Antigua has played turtle at home mostly, and I see no reason to not have more attacking talent on the pitch.

I have to assume Brasley is pretty close to 100%. I doubt he would get a start on a team with some depth like Roma if he was not fully fit. Unless he got hurt again today (no one is reporting that), I think he is a safe bet to start. I too would love to see Jozy get the start. I fear Klinsmann though is less than impressed with him.

I agree with you, and and I certainly hope he can go 90, but you never know when coming off an injury. When will he travel for camp?

RVP :chub:Almost pub time for el Classico
I drank too much last night to head out to the bar again today. I only have it on regular beIN today. Is it on elsewhere?
No idea, but with Ray calling the game on beIN do you need anything else?Dear Newcastle,The game started 17 minutes ago.ywia
1) Screw Roy and his fellating of Barça2) I only get beIN in SD since DirecTV screwed me out of my HD GolTV coverage of la liga.

If the roster is being announced tomorrow, I assume camp starts first thing on Tuesday (not sure where camp is but it may be in the KC area). The players are told before the roster is announced so Bradley could be traveling as early as today.

Ribery with 2 goals yesterday as Bayern beat Hoffenheim 2-0.

Bayern now 7-0-0 in Bundesliga play with 21 goals scores and 2 allowed and are 5 points clear of Frankfurt in 2nd.

Brad Friedel's run of consecutive starts ended today at 310 when AVB named Hugo Lloris. What an awesome career. I think it would be great if we could get him involved in youth soccer again in the US when he retires. I don't know the whole story behind his youth academy in Ohio, but I believe he essentially invested everything in it and ended up bankrupt a few years ago. I would guess he was probably too far ahead of the curve.

He could play one year in MLS and as part of his contract, have him start to work with that clubs youth academy when he retires.

had never heard of this guy until this week when he was called up. Is he any good? What position?

Striker21 years oldLeads the Danish league in scoring with 12 in 12 gamesOnly seen him play in highlights on YouTube so I have no idea what his skill level is.

Have to assume Bradley was subbed so tjat coming off injury he didnt have to go 90. Just saw highlights of the game and besides the goal he looked bery involved.

If hes available, that US MF all of a sudden looks ok.

Degea really is exceptionally bad playing balls in the air
Yep, he's has botched every play (and there's easily been 6-7) where he's come off the line today.
That's always been his major problem. He's an excellent shot stopper though. Man what a drubbing by United today. I thought their D would be suspect against Ba and Cisse, but they played well and the RVP and Rooney combo is looking world class right now.

His goal was an unmarked putback off a weak rebound but it's still good to have him back.

How many times will Barça get beat by a quick through ball?

If it weren't for Messi and Xavi, this game wouldn't be close. Messi simply owns los clásicos.

Falcao came through yet again with a clutch injury time goal to take down Málaga. Falcao is now the scoring leader in la liga with 7 goals in 6 matches played. Today's win puts the good guys on level pegging with the evil Barça, who's at the top of the table due to a 2 goal differential lead.

No, Chelski, you can't have Falcao.
