wow- I figured them to be a sleeper team this year with what I thought were a bunch of nice player acquisitions.
What's killing me is I can see the individual talent. But they just don't work together well in the attack or work hard or as a unit when they're defending. I don't know that a game this early in the season is truly a must win but it is as close to a must win as you can get. And what happened? They half-assed it on both sides of the ball the first 15 minutes of the game, fell behind and chased a point the last 75 minutes.

My wife loves it when I yell/whine at the Tv during soccer games. lol- god... it's so embarrassing. and for the RBNY yet.So- Suarez with another nice goal today. Off the top of my head, the EPL player of the last several games- he's just got every part of his game clicking right now.I was doing the same thing this morning. Another nice win for Houston today making fairly easy work of the home leg against KC winning 2-0.
I am not looking forward to watching the US have to deal with Oscar Boniek Garcia's movement for Honduras. The guy is going to be a handful.
On a side note, it is awful cool to see a Honduran player who was named after a great Polish player

Yeah- good call. But I think RVP goes through longer stretches (not long, but longer than Suarez) where he's not clicking with his teammates or getting involved. When he does, lethal. IMO, Suarez is just a busier player who imposes himself on the game more frequently than RVP. re: epl player of the past few weeks - for my money, I'd go with Mata. He is the engine that makes Chelsea run. You can see how they sputter a bit without him, and when he's in there, he really does it all. I read a few people mentioning Hazard's passing ability....I think at this point Mata is a much better passer than Hazard. That being said, when Hazard, Mata and Oscar are all on the field at the same time, well, good luck defending them. I really detest Suarez, but his skill cannot be overlooked, he's been pretty great. I don't think any individual player puts as much pressure on the opposing defense in the epl right now - he is similar to Drogba of a few years back. I really, really wish he wouldnt go to ground like such a #####, and I mean, he plays with a bunch of guys I highly respect - I wish one of them would just tell him to stop being a little #####. RvP has been pretty good too, I'd rate him on par with Suarez.
The Inter/Juve match was a cracker and really lived up to it's billing. Again though, questionable refereeing really was the story early. Juve goal was offside, and Inter was given a highly questionable pk (in my eyes, no way was that a pk), but Milito is still a wily player, and this was just a really good game to watch. Juve should have scored 2-3 in the first 50 minutes or so, they didn't, and Inter deserved to win, and they did. Fair enough.
It's funny because for years the rub on serie a was too much diving, too little goal scoring, too much defensive goal scoring. I think that has been totally false the past few years. This year - look at the lineups, just about every team plays at least 2 forwards, and the 3-5-2 is the en voge style right now. Serie A plays a very attacking style of soccer, and I think is very fun to watch. And if you like goals, well, any Roma game will be certain to see many.
Another quirk if you like goals....the norm for the over/under in soccer wagering for total goals is 2.5 (Well, except for Holland). For years, it's definitely slanted towards the under. Well, this year in the EPL, through 10 games, two teams are 9-1 for the OVER (ManUnited and Fulham), one team is 8-2 (Southampton), one team 7-3 (Everton). And only Sundarland, Norwich, and Aston Villa are under .500...wait, and Arsenal at 4-6. Lots of goals in England.
Bayern is running away with Bundesliga....Dortmund is kind of a mess right now.
PSG suffered a pretty massive home loss this weekend, including our man Zibra getting red carded - however, PSG has a CL match midweek which they should probably win by 3 or 4 goals.

I don't follow MLS all that much, but playoffs are fun, and I'll watch a match here or there. Also watched the Red Bulls/DC United match the other night. How the hell does NY afford the likes of Coooper, Henry, Cahill and Le Toux?? That's pretty sick, considering Houston is throwing Bruin and Carr out there.

How can one team continue to score so many important stoppage time goals? SJ did it again tonight scoring in the 95th minute to pull out an under served 1-0 away win. Poor goal keeping on LA's part.
And the entire MLS front office groans in the prospect of having MLS Cup in the tiny stadium SJ is stuck in awaiting their new stadium to be built.

So Suarez not only did not dive this week, but was the victim of an attempted leg breaker. Coloccini was shown straight red and luckily missed with his attack.

Oh sorry, iOS spell fixing things again. Yes, I meant undeserved. IMO it was most certainly undeserved as LA controlled the entire game. A draw would have been slightly flattering to SJ, but to get out with a win is a bit like robbery. But good for them, LA did not finish god knows how many forays into the box tonight and they got punished for it. by your At least that game (caveat- I only saw the second half) had some quality to it. Both sides put together more useful pass with guys constantly around the ball and play. SJ was pretty overwhelmed until they got Gordon and Dawkins in as subs around the 65-70 minute, and then starting to shift momentum with Dawkins pulling the strings with soem great short control on the ball and Gordon applying pressure up top. Things shifted back later in the half when Gordon seemed to take a knock and couldn't chase as effectively. But LA's movement and shape were fantastic for the whole half- they had some great passing sequences, particularly through the middle and right (beckham), that just missed with the final ball.But that SJ goal... GK made a mess of it. SJ did enough, IMO, to warrant stealing something there- but LA were the far better team.
This was like watching a lower tier EPL game with some moments of brilliance and generally entertaining. I believe Gordon was hurt from the minute he stepped on the field. He was questionable to play with an ankle injury and he clearly did not have his full mobility even though he gritted it out.

In the "good lord I can't stop aging" category, Ian Harkes, John Harkes son, has committed to Wake Forrest for next year according to Goff.
Harkes was the player of the year in the DC area last year as a junior and Wake is always one of the top programs that has produced a bunch of pro players the last 10 years.

Outside of that, I am unsure what I want for a schedule.I know people really like to get off to good starts but there is something about getting the Mexico away game out of the way early that appeals to me as well as watching them freeze their nuts off up north some where.I feel that there is going to be a lot of teams getting points off of each other this round and it would not surprise me if this goes down to the last day with multiple scenarios for every team except for Mexico.Panama would do everyone a favor if they prove to be out of their depth.
