Messi had been unstoppable this season and is a main reason behind Barça's success. That and a team cohesion and group tactical understanding. Personally, I don't like any team steamrolling their competition in any league, even the teams I support. It's just less fun to watch.

Brad Guzan has played one off the best 5 7 8 goals allowed games I have seen recently

Man Chelsea looks good tonight

Could have been 8 or 9 scored 11 or 12

If this post is in response to my earlier one, then I think you misunderstood my point. I get what you're saying about how the lack of a tight title race makes it less fun to watch. There is less drama and suspense when one team blows the rest of the league away. My earlier post was about the story I linked to, in which Messi was voted Argentina's third best athlete of 2012. Completely ridiculous.

BREAK UP LIVERPOOL
Just my opinion, but I think we can look back at December 22, 2012 as the day that the Brendan Rodgers Liverpool revolution started coming together. They were passing it around like Barca, and if people like Skrtel and Downing start scoring......... :scared: Looking forward to them finally landing Sturridge (three seasons after I added him in Football Manager).

I know that a good game from Downing is a rare event, but let's not get too carried away.

They're like the anti-United to me. IMO, they play well enough to win most of the games Ive seen this season, but find ways to not get results. I was saying the same kind of thing Smoovy said early in the season after seeing them outplay a couple of good teams but come up short.

Anybody know exactly how Roma uses their 4-3-3? I'm assuming two of the forwards play more like MFs in a 4-5-1 with Bradley as the typical holding central MF. But I dunno.

Probably more than you ever wanted to know but this site is too good not to keep pimping. This link is an indepth break down of the formation and tactics used by Roma in a recent game. http://www.zonalmarking.net/2012/12/11/roma-4-2-fiorentina-roma-attack-three-v-three/
:thumbup:awesome- thanks.sounds like they play an actual 4-3-3, which explains why Bradley and his non-stop motor are there. Defend like madmen and then try and get numbers forward on the break.

Barca can drop a maximum of 9 points over the remaining 21 games and break RM's 100 point record. But they'd probably be better off taking the foot off the gas near the end if things are well in hand and making sure everyone's well rested for a potential Copa final and/or a CL final in May.

Speaking of the Copa, Atletico's got a pretty nice path to the finals. Barca/Malaga and Valencia/RM are potential quarterfinal matchups on the other side of the bracket, assuming RM can overcome a one-goal deficit at home against Celta, and Malaga TCB after drawing Eibar on the road.

Poor Brad Guzan. Nice PK save though.
He had some great saves and was definitely the best player out there for an atrocious Villa side yesterday, but I have to say there were a few that he could / should have done better with.Frankie Lampard became Chelsea's top alltime goal-scorer yesterday, with 130 (surpassing Bobby Tambling).Chelsea with Supa Frank in the lineup this season: 7-1-0; without: 1-4-3after the game, Frank once again shows his class:
"I think we showed a great appetite. The early goal helped. We are enjoying playing again.Lampard became Chelsea's record top-flight league scorer with 130 goals for the club, overtaking Bobby Tambling (129).He said: "It means that I'm old!! It means a lot. I'm very proud and very proud to beat a great man like Bobby Tambling."On contract situation: "I'm not concentrating that far. I'm going to continue game by game and I'm just happy to be fit."

Can someone educate me on this Falcao character. Just watched some highlights....is he a stud? He sure seems like it.

Is he gonna stay put or get sold somewhere?

Málaga CF (ESP): The club is excluded from participating in the next UEFA club competition for which it would otherwise qualify in the next four seasons (i.e. 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17). In addition, Málaga will be excluded from a subsequent UEFA competition for which it would otherwise qualify (in the next four seasons) if it does not prove, by 31 March 2013, that it has no overdue payables towards football clubs or towards employees and/or social/tax authorities, in accordance with the UEFA Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations.Málaga has also been fined €300,000. The prize money withheld on 11 September 2012 (as a conservatory measure) will be released.
I think there are a couple things to take from this (knowing its not the first FFP suspension, but perhaps the most "high profile"). On the one hand, this shows some contrary evidence to those who claimed FFP would have no teeth. This is potentially devastating to a club like Malaga. On the other hand, it also backs up those who claim that FFP will not only maintain the big club status quo in UEFA, but will arguably lead to even more big club dominance. FFP really has nothing in common with American style salary caps, and does not count the concept of "parity" among strong and weak clubs as a goal. It is aimed solely at keeping clubs financially sound and solvent on a cash flow and balance sheet basis. If your club is owned by an oligarch or a sheik, FFP is really good news I think competitively, so long as your sugar-daddy remains interested in supporting his toy.

I understand he's not cup-tied this season. While both the player and club claim he is staying put, that seems to suggest otherwise - although I don't know how many UEFA games they've had, and can't say if that is perhaps due to injury or some other reason he's not yet played in Europe for Atletico.

They're in second place in La Liga with a great chance for Champions League next year. Don't see them moving him anytime soon.

He's got a buy-out clause, albeit a huge one (I read €45 million), so its out of the club's hands if the player wants to leave and there's a team crazy enough to pay it.

Is the buyout clause on top of the transfer fee or does it affectively replace the transfer fee?

It has been the teams decision to keep him out of all Europa League games this year.

He is beyond a stud. Best pure striker in the world right now IMO. He is a big reason why AM are sitting in 2nd in La Liga and that Colombia are arguably the hottest national team in the world as they have rocketed up the rankings to number 5. He scored 41 in 51 games for Porto, and scored 42 in 49 games for AM. He has won the Europa League and been leading scorer in competition with 2 different teams. He will be 27 years old in February so he likely has a good 3-4 years left at top form so his worth is likely going to be as high as it ever will be this winter.

Both Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka have left China and are looking for new teams.

I have to think Drogba has more than enough left in the tank to help many EPL teams and would make a nice DP signing for an MLS team where he would actually get paid unlike his disaster in China.

Cudicini to sign with Galaxy

Unless Cudicini doesn't take a DP slot, I am not a fan of this signing.
I would be utterly shocked if that was a DP signing. Even in the article it mentions fitting in within the cap so it does not sound like a DP player but I am in complete agreement with you that it would be a very bad DP signing. I can't see Arena making that mistake especially knowing that their new huge tv contract came with the stipulation that they continue to sign big name players. They only have one DP slot left (depending on Landon).

The reason could be that their Europa League group included Viktoria Plzen, Academica and Hapoel Tel Aviv. I'm thinking maybe Falcao wasn't the only first-stringer they chose to rest.

Yes he's a stud. Straight up number 9 that has good athleticism and great strength against CBs. I'm sure that few enjoy tussling with him (Ramos being the exception since I think he enjoys being the villain).Cynically, you can't help but notice that he's not cup tied, but a) they haven't needed him thus far, and are solidly leading their group, and b) he may have been waiting to see if Atlético could hold their la liga position up to the winter break, and they obviously have.I hope he stays but off he goes someone will be paying top dollar for him. We'll see if the can find a fourth quality striker in a row if he departs.Oh and merry Christmas to all.

There has been a long time rumor that Fox would be rebranding its channels and with FSC losing a ton of properties, it was certainly a candidate.

Sports Business Daily reported that Speed will be rebranded next August as Fox Sports 1, and the Fuel TV will shortly follow being rebranded as Fox Sports 2. The author was not ready to state whether FSC will be rebranded as Fox Sports 3 but seemed to indicate that it would not surprise anyone.

Looks like Friedel is staying at Tottenham for another year. That's great news all around. He will likely back-up Lloris, but apparently they get along well and I expect Lloris can learn a lot from him.

My understanding is he is one of the most respected players in the locker room.

I always thought that Lloris was older than that... about the same age as Iker, but he's only 26.

Minutes before the first Tottenham goal, the radio announcer said that the game had really opened up and that was not good news for Villa. Nailed it
