Bradford City 3 - 1 Villa today in the League Cup. If they advance it will be the third EPL team they've eliminated from this tournament. Bradford plays in League 2, essentially the English FAs 4th division. Shay Given rather than Guzan in goal today for Villa.

 Really pulling for the guy. He has been so upbeat and positive throughout this long ordeal it is impossible not to want him suceeed. And by succeed I mean just get his career back, not necessarily be a main cog in the US lineup that we hoped/expected he would be. What is under Holden's shirt above his number? Is it some sort of monitoring device?

TORRANCE, Calif. – All but two of the 25 players invited in for the US national team's first camp of 2013 were present for Tuesday's start of fitness work, the traditional kickoff to the annual January gathering in Southern California. But head coach Jurgen Klinsmann made it clear that this is nothing like past camps to start the year. With the final-round hexagonal to CONCACAF's World Cup qualifying slate less than a month away, Klinsmann and his staff are treating this as preparation for games that matter, and he expects a half-dozen players, and perhaps more, to be on the roster when the US take on Honduras early next month in San Pedro Sula.“It's a little bit of a different type of a camp,” Klinsmann told a group of reporters at the team hotel following the first fitness session. “It's not really a preseason camp, like it was always in the recent years, because of that Feb. 6 date in Honduras. It's actually a World Cup qualifying preparation camp, so we work as hard as we can in a very short amount of time.”Klinsmann said he also is following closely American players in Europe and Mexico as he determines the roster for the Honduras game, and that “based on what happens in Europe, in Mexico, we can then see how many players from this [camp's] roster will feed into that one. Off the top of my head, probably six, eight, nine players maybe.”One who will not be considered for the qualifier is LA Galaxy captain Landon Donovan, who has taken a leave of absence to consider his future.“We don't have him in our sheet for Honduras, because if you're not part of this camp, you have basically no preparation for a World Cup qualifier,” he said. “As with everyone else, we're curious what he comes up with and what he decides to do.”The players in camp will continue fitness work the rest of the week and plan to be on the field next Monday, by which time Sporting Kansas City midfielder Graham Zusi and Chivas USA forward Juan Agudelo should be back from a training stint with English Premier League side West Ham United. Both are expected to arrive in LA on Friday. The other 23 players – including five in their first full national team camp, Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall and forward Will Bruin, and defenders Tony Beltran from Real Salt Lake, Connor Lade from New York and Justin Morrow from San Jose – are looking to impress ahead of the Jan. 29 friendly against Canada in Houston with the hope their performances will put them in the mix for qualifiers and this summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup.All but four players on the camp roster are from Major League Soccer.“If you look at MLS over the last couple of years, every year MLS has done a step forward. And I think last season quality-wise was probably the best-ever season we've seen ...,” Klinsmann said.“We've seen many [players] that are now part of this camp play on a very consistent high level, and that's what we want to see now in this camp, that they kind of prove that consistency in their game, that they are ready personality-wise to step in another level up, because that's what is needed on the international surface. And so we are really curious to see how much they can confirm of what they have already shown in MLS.”

Eephus, is the African Cup of Nations on TV any where this year?
ESPN3 - matches are already listed in the coming soon section
Cool, thanks. Has anyone come up with a DVR like system for ESPN3? I like to have games to watch late at night after wifey goes to sleep as I stay up until 3:30ish most nights.
I think Espn3 has most matches in the 'replay' tab. I have seen some Champs/Europa league that are live only though.

Lets see how my memory is. Top row, left to rightJanus Michalik, Klopas(I think), Hugo Perez, Balboa, Friedel(I think), Lalas, Meola, Lapper, Agoos, Mike Sorber, Burns, ReynaBottom, left to rightKinnear(I think), Cobi, Caliguiri, Vermes, Henderson, Dooley, Clavijo, ArmstrongLots of players missing who made the WC roster in 94 including Wynalda, Kooiman, Harkes, Stewart, Ramos, Wegerle, and Joe Max

Honduras is the first up for the US early next month in WCQing.Honduras is also going through Gold Cup Qualifying right now for the Central America region which could mean up to 4 games this month as prep for the WCQier. It will not be their full squad but there will be enough starters to make their prep much more in depth than the US's one game with only a couple of starters on hand.Honduras will be playing El Salvador and Panama in the first round and then face one of likely either Costa Rica or Guat in the semi's should the favorites advance.

MLS's Full Schedule will be released at noon today, along with the National TV schedule. The Fire's scheduled was leaked yesterday and from it, it was gleamed that Univision has upped their coverage of MLS, the big change being to move MLS games off of Galavision and onto Unimas.Unimas (the recently rebranded Telefutura), has significantly higher household penetration than Galavision does and Univision themselves are going to be showing games as well.No idea yet what the spread will be for ESPN/ESPN2/NBC/NBCSN but we will find out shortly. It will be interesting to see how the NBC's MLS games are scheduled come start of the EPL season this late summer.

This doesn't bother me too much. One thing that I like about JK is that I think it's done a great job of defining clear roles on the team that make it pretty easy to integrate players in and communicate what is expected. Jozy knows exactly what he wasn't doing to not get called up and exactly what he's expected to do now. You read interviews with Sacha and he knows exactly what role he'd play in the team. For better or worse, we know the formation and we can clearly see how the team is meant to play. Highest striker running the channels and holding the ball up. CAM/Support Striker behind. Two flank CAMs playing narrow providing service. Most width coming from the FBs. CM's expected to keep possession circulating with at least one breaking up play in front of the CBs. A high line and high pressure against weaker sides, defending deeper against stronger sides (with the line moving higher later in the game). I think that makes the learning curve easier.

I agree with this from a learning curve aspect. But there is more to integrating a team than just the learning curve of tactics and a big component is the individual players match fitness and sharpness. The US is going to have more than a handful of players who are not both match fit/sharp (Edu, Jones, all the MLS guys etc). I remember how ragged Dempsey looked when he played in the qualifiers last year after being neither match fit or sharp. At the very least the Honduras players will all be actively playing, and assuming they don't get hurt, all things being equal, they are likely to be more match fit and sharp than players who have not been playing much the last couple of months in real games.

I just made a sad (because of how dumb I am) but great discovery for myself last night.I am a Direct TV customer and have an ipad. In the past, I have tried to use the WatchESPN app on the ipad and been blocked because they don't have a contract with Direct TV signed to allow that. But I never realized I was just being blocked from watching ESPN/ESPN2 on my Ipad. Once I signed in with my COMCAST id (which is who my internet provider is), I am now able to use the WatchESPN app to view all ESPN3 content. I am still blocked from ESPN/ESPN2 content on the app, but it appears that many of the games that ESPN/ESPN2 televises are also on ESPN3 so I may be pretty well covered.

Here is the full national TV schedule for the 2013 MLS Season.

And along with the National TV schedule is the full league schedule. Earliest start date ever for the league as they try and balance league play with the likely busy summer for many players with WCQing and the Gold CupMLS Schedule

Each of the League’s 19 clubs will play 34 matches, 17 at home and 17 away, over 35 weeks during the 2013 season, which officially kicks off on March 2, the earliest start date in league history. Within each conference, each club will play the same number of in-conference and out-of-conference games, following the same competition format as 2012, with inter-conference matches switching venues.More than 90 percent of this year’s regular-season games are on weekends or holidays, and none will overlap directly with FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. During the summer months, most games will kick off no earlier than 4 pm local time in an effort to reduce the impact of hot weather. All 323 matches will be televised live – 87 via national network partners ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, NBC, NBC Sports Network, Univision and UniMás in the United States. Nationally in Canada, at least 30 games featuring Canadian clubs will air on TSN/TSN2 in English and RDS/RDS2 in French. The TSN/TSN2 and RDS/RDS2 schedules will be announced in the coming weeks.
