Villa to Atletico for 3 years for 2.1m €. 2m added if stays next year, 1m added if will stay after. Barcelona will get 50% of next transfer

Did NOT see that one coming. I'm not really happy with the signing since he´s 31 years old and looks already past his prime. But at 5.1m€, it's not bad overall. Depth at striker is critical for European play, and Villa still has the goods to run around mid-tier la liga teams.

I'm surprised at that Villa move. Strange all around.

As a Gooner, I'm very happy they didn't end up with Suarez. I don't want to have to root for that little rat looking ######. I do wonder whether that was done (knowing the offer wouldn't be accepted) to help add leverage with RM regarding Higuain, by "showing we've got alternatives working" or some such BS though.

Agree. Atletico has a great run of young and/or prolific strikers from Torres to Aguero to Forlan to Falco. Dont know if Villa can maintain that mantle at his age. Price tag isnt too prohibitive though so you have to think another, bigger signing is on the horizon.

Looks like today is the big transfer day weve been waiting for.

Borussia Dortmund are set to conclude a club record €25 million move for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan

It was rumored that Atleti only had 18m€ to spend on signings this summer. Tough to find a quality guy for under 15m€ IMO. I kinda wish Atleti had made a move for Higuaín.

Will Shakhtar throw in a couple of vowels to complete the deal?

If Arsenal are being asked to spend 30m€ on Higuain, how on earth with a fellow La Liga club (and a derby rival!) have any shot at spending just half that on him?

Well, I was hoping they'd open the checkbook and pay the 30m€ for him. Collect the balance from Falcao, and use Higuaín against their rivals.

* Mario Gomez moves from Bayern to Fiorentina for 16M
So is this Jovitec out?
I think I read that they may play them together given that Jovetic isnt an out an out striker. But thats a lot of money tied up in a front line. Have to think theyre going to cash out.
Yeah, but Serie A is down right now. If they can afford that front line they're serious contenders, no?

Why would Jovetic be out at Fiorentina?

They had Luca Toni last year bottle necking the hell out of the attack, were able to unload him and get Gomez? That's great. They had the second most goals in Serie A last year, and were a fun attacking team. Jovetic has been pursued pretty hard and may leave, but if he stays, all the better.

Great singing by Dortmund too getting Mkhityarin. Dude was great with Shaktar and will be great fit with the Germans, imho.

Why do they only have 18 if they got 60 for Falcao?
Debts need to be paid. They are moving to a new stadium in the near future and we all know how much that can cost. Borrowing money in Spain has been tough lately...

New stadium is called "La Pieneta", or "the comb".

ETA: I had a whole bunch more written, but somehow lost it. I'm not getting that time back, so screw it. Suffice to say that the stadium is the old Estadio Olimpico outside the city and although would make Atleti more money in the long run, it's a shame to lose the Calderón.

I've read that Juve is back in for Jovetic at 30 million pounds. Jovetic is an excellent player, but he's a 15 goal type of player. Not a 30 goal type of player. I think that number would be hard for Fiorentina to resist.

The Villa deal for Atletico is obviously superb. I'm sure they want a younger guy, but you can't beat that price for a player of that quality. Particularly as it appears to be less than what Barca turned down from Spurs.

One player who seems to be getting no interest who I think could be a huge value is Dzeko. I just think he's criminally underrated.

I don't get this at all, unless Villa himself vetoed that deal.

I have to admit that the idea of Rooney coming to Barca, fanciful as it may be, does intrigue me. He seems like he could play a few different roles for them.

I'm surprised that Villa didn't go to the EPL.

But that seems to be what has made him unhappy at Man U. Rooney's versatility is a blessing and a curse, IMO. The obvious place for him at Barca would be on the right, but would he be happy there? Or would he be happy taking some games for Iniesta in midfield? He could do it. And do it well. But he wants to be a striker. Or at least play directly behind the striker and Barca just don't do that.
