Guys are standing around out there. We need somebody to make a play.
Off the ball, and in the middle of the field I think the movement is fine.

I see very little from the front line in the final third to create something. The midfielders look like they're getting frustrated.

I don't know that there was too much room to make runs. I think they looked pretty good with what they were given.

The mild weather is probably helping Panama. In hot weather, I think they'd have trouble working that hard off the ball. I think it's going to be hard for the US to get fullbacks forward because of Panama's pace on the wings. I'd normally say that this was a case to possibly play Mix and Holden together in the last 20 minutes or so, but that appears to be out of the question. I think Donovan and Johnson just need to try ####. Or maybe Mix needs to face up and dribble at someone.

Saw both good and bad Shea there. No idea how EJ missed that cross. Really like the sub of Gonzalez, he's a beast in the air. LD once again dangerous, especially in service - several great balls on set pieces. Some stupid yellows, but a nice win all around.

Good win against a bunkering team that knew what it was doing. I thought Mix was probably MOTM, with an honorable mention to Goodson for completely gobbling up Perez. Bedoya gets credit for the winning moment of quality with a deft through ball from the improbable angle.

This was a three cocktail game, but the US did a nice job dominating play and not giving up anything on the counter.

3 beer game for me, 9% beers, but just 3 beers.

Ok, so now is as good a time as ever. If the world cup squad had to be selected today, who is on it? (assuming all healthy guys stay healthy and guys with minor injuries recover)

For me its (leaving out Holden, as I think he probably re-injured himself pretty badly).....

GK- Howard, Guzan, Rimando

DEF- Besler, Gonzalez, Goodsen, Beasley, Evans, Fab. Johnson, Chandler

MF- Bradley, Jones, Cameron, Zusi, Shea, Danny Williams

F- Donovan, Dempsey, Altidore, Eddie Johnson

I'm assuming the German contingent (Williams, Chandler and Fab) are going to recover and play well for their clubs this year. If so, they should all make the team. That leaves 3 spots. One of them should probably be a CB, but I don't think its necessary as Cameron could obviously cover there. Edu's versatility could also get him back in the mix. I'm guessing one of either Corona or Mixx makes the roster, which leaves the last spot for whatever forward is hot as we get closer to Brazil. (wondo, Gomez, maybe Boyd) Of course, he could take scrubby Beckerman or bring Torres along.

Assuming they're healthy, I'd take Torres, Gomez, and Beckerman. Not sure I'd take Evans though. Maybe Edu instead of him? Haven't seen him in a while..

Evans started the last 2 qualifiers at RB. Until he doesn't, I have to assume he's the top choice there.

John Anthony Brooks is apparently getting a call-up for the Bosnia friendly. I could see him making the team. I could also see the US experimenting with Besler or Orozco as a fullback (I'm not sure I'm on board, but we'll see).

I think it's easiest to separate into locks, probable's, and then look at the remaining candidates.

My locks are: Howard, Guzan, Rimando, Besler, Goodson, Gonzo, Beasley, Bradley, Jones, Cameron, Jozy, Landon, Deuce, Zusi, and EJ.

My probables are: Evans, Beckerman, Shea, MIx, and Corona

So the contenders, IMO, by position:

DEF: Dolo, Chandler, Brooks, Orozco, and outside shots for Gooch and (a big outside shot, but I might cap him and see) Yedlin.

MID: Sacha, Bedoya, Williams, Torres

FWD: Herc, Boyd, Wondo (outside shots that Klinsy might get Aron Johannson or Sean Parker to file the switch).

Of those, I'd take Chandler and Brooks (if he trains well) for the back line. I'd take one of Bedoya or Torres (Klinsy's choice). Assuming no surprise, I'd take Herc for experience and the ability to play on the wing.

Obviously a moot point now, but I wouldn't blame EJ for failing to put that late cross away. With the ball trending up, it's remarkably easy to put the ball over the net from inside the 6. I'd expect better out of him, but the miss is understandable, IMO.

He also worked very, very hard holding the ball up. I've liked EJs work up top enough that I'm demoting him off the left wing. I think his value is in coming in as fresh legs for Jozy. That way, Klinsy can tell Jozy to run around like a banshee for 65 or 70 minutes without worrying about saving himself. Then bring EJ on for the finish and tired centerbacks get another fast, strong, energetic guy to just wear them out.
