Quick question with this NBC Live Extra: I'm able to watch the other matches online but is there any way to watch it on TV or is it only the game they are showing on NBC Sports?
Time Warner has Premier League extra on overflow channels for free. There was a link a couple pages back where you could enter your service provider and it would tell you where to find the games. I think it was called NBC sports premier league game finder.

Yeah, I looked through my guide and then called Charter. I don't get the overflow channels so I can only watch the games online. Definitely better than nothing. I used that game finder and it similarly only shows the single NBC Sports channel. Oh well.

Btw, as a new Chelsea fan, who am I supposed to hate? I tried to read about their rivalries and it seems like there's a few, but I'd rather hear it from you guys. So let me know who I should start to direct my ire against.

Second best defense in the league last year....

Don't think I've seen a ref give a penalty after allowing play to go on and a shot go off...amiwrong?
The penalty was for the GK taking the player down - there was no shot after that.

Are you referring to a different game or Arsenal-Villa?
There definitely was a shot. That's what had the arsenal players riled up
I need to watch the sequence again then. I think I was too taken aback by Agbonlahor running free through the middle of the defense to see all of that. The only video on YouTube is the penalty itself, not the play leading to it.

Arsenal and Spurs for supremacy in London; Fulham to a lesser extent in that regard (they're close neighbors).

United and City for supremacy in the league.

Liverpool because of some hot clashes a few years ago.

Don't worry though, with Mourinho's loose, sharp tongue, everyone will hate you.

Uh oh.....I'm paired up with a stinking Gooner in the fantasy league? Who set this #### up? My world has just been turned upside down.

Man, I ####### HATE Arsenal so much.
:lmao:
:goodposting:

People tend to hate Arsenal because of the fans' perceived arrogance, embodied by Arsene Wenger's scholarly Frenchness. In truth, Wenger revolutionized training and recruitment of players in the PL, and they had an 8-9 year run from 1997-2005 or so that was outstanding, very dominant, and really only matched by United during that time frame. The fans have always acted like that should have just continued unabated.

Anyway, Arsenal (along with Liverpool and United) are "old money", and Chelsea, while an old club, wasn't remarkable as a club until Roman Abramovich pumped a HUGE amount of money into it a decade ago. That, plus the fact that they're located only a few miles from each other leads to antipathy. Think Yankees-Mets, playing in the same league and the Mets having a rich owner and buying the team into success.

This referee doesn't have control of this match. It's a foul-riddled mess.

In all seriousness, I'm watching this Arsenal/AVL match while this conversation took place. Here I am rooting for Arsenal, then find out it's blasphemy, and now I'm celebrating that terrible call on Koscielny.

Of course, our fantasy team has both Koscielny and Szczesny (figures when you draft with a RHE) so I can only feel so good about it.

This morning has been an emotional roller coaster.

Now you understand why RHE drinks all.the.Time

Holy ####....Taylor has ruined the game
:goodposting:

I'm so pissed right now. Arsenal's not lit this up, but they don't deserve to be both a goal and a man down either.
They are lucky Szcscszenitsky wasn't sent off.
Maybe, and some refs would have given that, but that was one of the calls that I think he got right. I don't think you award both a penalty and a straight red unless the keeper's done something really egregious or dangerous, and Szcz did neither.

You'll never fully understand my pain.

I have decided to be a soccer fan. I've got tickets to a few matches, follow a couple of local blogs, and want to know more about the game.

Where can I learn about X's and o's, position responsibilities, and just basic strategy? I want to understand what I'm watching better.

Wikipedia is a decent resource for this, I think.

What are the chances Arsenal have a late transfer flourish this month? Remember in 11-12, they started 0-1-2 for 1 point from 3 games, including an 8-2 loss vs. United, and then bought Andre Santos, Mertesacker, Arteta, and Park Chu-Young, and brought in Yossi Benayoun on loan, all on either 8/30 or 8/31.
