That's how you win la liga these days. Getting 3 points away from home against better than average teams. You will need 90+ points to win, which means near perfection.

I didn't get to see Atleti play because it wasn't on bein. But 5-0 is nothing to sneeze at.
Did you hear the rumors of Mata on a season loan to your Atleti?
Buying Willian and then loaning Mata just seems ridiculous.

This is ridiculous. As long as I can keep away from the top right corner, pre/post/halftime shows (which I have found little use on NBCSN anyways), I can watch every BPL game in full without knowing the outcome (xfinity has full match replays on demand). When football starts, I will have to pick and choose but I don't know if the this is the greatest thing ever or will ruin my life. I have watched everything but Liverpool/Aston Villa and Sunday's game so far.

As long as I keep away from the soccer world, I will have plenty to watch this fall whenever I find myself in front of the TV. So you might not see me much in the thread on the weekend in particular.

By the way, the ticker on FoxSports1 is horrendous. It is distracting for one but also makes it very difficult to watch the later replays without ruining the outcome. It is much easier to block the top right corner on NBC than across the TV on the bottom ticker.

Yeah, I forget the top right corner ticker is there unless I want to follow a certain score.

Watched a ton of soccer again this weekend....but hardly any serie a. Shocking result for AC Milan.

A few random thoughts...

the ref's have been pretty bad from what I have seen so far. The ref in the Spurs/Swans game was beyond bad, and the ref in the Barca/Malaga game was poor too.

I am very surprised that Bony has been brought in off the bench for both premier league games so far. He's featured a lot in friendlies and Europa games, whythe####not bring him in against Man United and Spurs?

Same with Neymar. He's been brought in mid-second half in the two Barca games I've seen so far this year, why not give him a start?

Barca looks merely ordinary without Messi. Not saying they looked bad today, but they lacked that something special Messi brings, and in Super Cup play I thought AM did a fairly good job against them.

Don't know if anyone else watched the Monaco game behind closed doors on Friday, but that was a bore. I was kind of surprised to see PSG as such heavy favorites after their first two draws, but they are still clearly the class of Ligue 1.

The more I think about it, the more I hate how the transfer season drags into 3-4 weeks of play. Transfer season should end mid-August. They've had all summer to evaluate teams and finances, piss or get off the pot. They have another transfer season after new year, there you can tweak your team if need be. Still lots of uncertainty swirling around, I wish the Rooney saga would get resolved one way or the other. It's plainly clear that Bale will be at Real, make the ####### deal already. I know Spurs brought in a lot of 'talent', but I'm not sold on them at all. Only two goals so far this year have been from the spot, and this is against bottom dwellars (I think Swans supporters will be sorely disappointed this year if expect them to be in top-10). If they bring in Lamela I think that will be huge...but I see a lot of incohesion upfront. That being said, their defense has looked pretty solid this year so far, but again, let's see what happens against better competition.

Massive, massive game tomorrow at OT. I know it's only the second game, but I am very interested to see how both teams show.

And, I am honestly looking forward to tonight's Timber/Sounders game. I kinda wish the league bumped up the start time to prime time, I mean what else is going on tonight? This is a great showcase game for the league, especially with Dempsey making his home debut at the biggest home field crowd in MLS.

You don't just give players a start to see what happens.

And I'm glad the Seattle game wasn't bumped up. That way I can watch Breaking Bad.

I get it at primetime and then Breaking Bad right right after

Why is is so hard for American channels to understand soccer fans don't want their tickers?

My wife hates you now but I may consider going gay for a day to repay you.

More wisdom from my favorite striker/philosopher.

French reporter: Zlatan, what did you think about the tactical change to 4-3-3?

Zlatan: Good!

French reporter: Why?

Zlatan: Because I say so.

So do they take odds on total goals scored in the season?

I'm betting my Hull City squad is probably odds on to be last in goals scored.

The hope is, that they'll manage to be perhaps top-5 in least goals allowed (the likely formula to stay up).

Here's to some successful death ball for the Tigers :)

So Chelsea buys a midfielder who has never played a minute in the Prem and immediately must offload its best player the past two seasons, possibly to a league rival. Silly stuff. If he's fit, no doubt he starts tonight at OT.

I believe that picture has been floating around for days, if not weeks.
Days. Ever since the RM website briefly had the option of a Bale 11 shirt to order before it was taken down.

It's all a bit nutty, but if they sell Mata it'll be to a non-English team. I can't imagine them selling him to a team like United that they're trying to displace at the top of the table.

are these premeir league games online somewhere live?

i wish i had time to get into soccer

i love those american football coach in england commercials

I tend to discount the Mata rumors as well, but here are two possible explanations if we accept the premise that Mourinho, who is undoubtedly a brilliant manager, is also paranoid and possibly mentally ill.

1. Juan Mata is the most successful acquisition in the post-Mourinho era. Hazard and Oscar are young enough that Mourniho can get credit for getting the best out of them if they make the leap this season. Another great Mata year and he's just the 3 time Chelsea player of the year.

2. Mata (and Azpilicueta) are associated with a Spanish national team that Mourinho associates with the "treasonous" elements at Madrid (Iker, Ramos). The only Spanish player who Mourinho appears to still trust is Xabi Alonso, who publicly fell out with his Madrid teammates because they thought he took Mourinho's anti-Barca jihad too far.

Hoping for a fun game here but who knows how the two managers will play this. Schurrle at CF for Chelsea gives a hint perhaps as to why they added Willian last week. He seems super fit and tracks back well based on what I've seen. Will be interesting to see how the home crowd treats Rooney. Checking out now to watch this evening. Let's go Chels.

I really discount #2,but who knows? I think Mata has a place at any team in Europe, but some say he doesn't fit Mourinho's style. I honestly don't know what that means. As Eephus noted last week, it's all just rumors until you see them holding up the shirt.

Liking the Schurrle move at CF though what does it say about our strikers?

CM - Did I not warn you before the season that Mourinho was going to bring the circus to town? The speculation, mind games, drama, etc. Too funny

From BBC:

Paul Bennett: So Jose Mourinho is playing mind games with Manchester United by playing no striker. He's saying to Wayne Rooney 'the position is yours!' Clever clever man.

ok

dumb n00b question

is this field the same size as a field i would have seen the last time i watched soccer, which likely would have been the world cup
