They would be foolish to sell him before the World Cup. Lukaku's value can only go up, possibly way up if he performs in Brazil. I don't know who else Belgium has at CF now that Benteke is out, but it seems almost certain the pressure will be on the Kraken's young shoulders and it will be interesting to see how he responds.
The couldn't sell him if they wanted to until July, right?
My recollection is that it starts in June, but I'm not certain. In any event, its hard to believe the club has already set a value as is being reported. A good world cup performance has doubled or tripled player values in the past. I don't really believe they've already decided definitively to sell Lukaku, but have been surprised before, particularly with the current manager. For Chelsea transfer news, FBG Native seems to have a better grip on the team's plans than I do.
If these rumors are true, what they tell you is that Lukaku's loan to Everton was based less upon Mou's ignorance of his talent and more based upon his skepticism about it. He just may not be a believer in Lukaku, or at least Lukaku's ability to perform at an elite level right now which is the short term thinking that Mou's known for. It looks like he wants to cash out on Lukaku (probably for 20M+ GBP) and use that money to help buy an elite striker.

Hearing @MLS trade being announced soon with @PhilaUnion shipping Jack McInerney to @impactmontreal for Andrew Wenger and more.
Is the "more" part of it Wenger's long puffy coat?

I don't know that Wenger kid, but trading away a franchise type young player in McInerney seems insane. Guess I'll have to find out who Wenger Jr is.
Here is some more info. Not sure if this was a straight up trade as they don't mention any other pieces like allocation money.

===============

Two of the most ballyhooed young forwards in MLS traded teams on Friday.

Jack McInerney, who is coming off a 12-goal season in 2013, is headed to the Montreal Impact, with former No. 1-overall SuperDraft pick Andrew Wenger moving closer to home with the Philadelphia Union in the player-for-player swap between the two Eastern Conference sides.

The 21-year-old McInerney played for the Union over five seasons and emerged as the club's leading scorer in the last two. He was selected seventh overall in the 2010 SuperDraft and went on to score 25 regular-season goals in 95 games in Union colors. This year he's started all four matches for Philly, registering one goal.

McInerney's goalscoring exploits last year earned him All-Star status and a spot on the USMNT's 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup squad. He's also featured for US youth international teams at the Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 levels.

"We are extremely pleased to be able to bring in a player of Jack McInerney's quality," said Impact sporting director Nick De Santis in a club statement. "At a young age, he's already showed the ability to score goals in this league and we feel his qualities and soccer sense fit well within our style of play."

The Impact made Wenger the top pick in the 2012 SuperDraft, but the Lancaster, Pa., native has only been able to net six goals in his 51 all-time regular-season appearances for the club and has often been criticized for his finishing ability. The 23-year-old has mainly served as a backup to Marco Di Vaio, who has proven to be one of the league's top strikers since arriving in 2012 (26 goals in 51 matches).

Wenger, who was voted the best player in the country in high school (2008) and college (2011), featured for Philadelphia's PDL affiliate side Reading United in 2010.

“Andrew is a young and talented attacking player who we think is a good fit with our style of play,” Union manager John Hackworth said in a club statement. “Jack was an important member of our squad over the past four years, but the reality is our team has evolved and this deal puts our team in a better overall position long-term.

"Andrew is a Pennsylvania native that we are familiar with from his time as a youth and Reading United player and he will be a great addition to our team as both a person and a player going forward.”

I think it has to be Courtois
abosutely.

but that's a great lineup decision to have.
Why? I haven't watched enough Liverpool games to know how good Mignolet is so it's an honest question. From my recollection, his back 4 is not as good as Atlético's back 4, so he probably gets tested more.

I just looked up the stats, and Courtois has had the fewest shots on goal per game in la liga, only 73 shots on goal in 30 games, whereas Mignolet has seen 126 shots on goal in 32 games. That tells me a lot.

Mig is an excellent shot stopper with very strong hands, he lacks in controlling the box and coming for crosses.

He's improved in coming out, but still need to work on that

Reading that article...

Courtois has given up 16 goals from 58 shots on target, and Mignolet has given up 32 goals from 116 shots on target -- exactly double on both counts, and the same save percentage.

If you haven't read this...do it.
Interesting read. The thing that jumped out at me was the first two points about building a foundation and rebuilding. Both hinge on youth. Where's the youth now? Did he let that go his last few years?

I'm imagining United fans slapping their foreheads at the lost season as Kagawa and Chicharito are killing it. Look like a totally different side today.

Looking forward to the Portland Seattle game on NBCSN at 3:00pm. Should be an incredible atmosphere as usual as Portland looks to get their season started.

Also hoping to see Dempsey continuing to find his footing. He got off to a decent start before the nut slap suspension.

Looks like all three top la liga sides will finish the week in the same place they started. RM is still playing (57th min) and are up 1-0 on Real Sociedad with a patchwork squad, but I don't see them dropping points here.

All teams looked like the CL games took their toll and all 3 could have ended differently IMO.

Im on a little DVR delay, but 20 mins in and this a barnstormer

Been lurking and enjoying this thread for while and wanted to throw in my 2 cents being a Union season ticket holder.

Good points in the article, and I personally like the trade. I don't know much about Wenger, but I am happy to get rid of Jack. He frustrated me every single game. I know he had an explosive first half of last year but he always seemed to play so lazy - almost like a poor mans Dempsey. He turned it on here and there but never worked hard for 90 minutes. He pouted when he didn't get balls and blew some great chances he had of his own. Not needed with basically a whole new midfield like they have.

He does have talent so for his USMNT future, I hope he changes his attitude. But as a Union fan, I have no complaints over the deal.

What a game (at least offensively)

8 goals

Multiple hit posts

Multiple great saves

Near misses

Could have been 6-6 easy instead of 4-4.

Dempsey with the hat trick gives him 4 goals and an assist in 2 starts plus a sub role. Hope this continue to indicate he is getting some of the swag back.

Yedlin showcased all his good and bad traits.

Darlington Nagbe just chews up real estate when he dribbles. I can't wait til he gets his citizenship.

Below-par champions slip to first defeat

Bayern lost in the Bundesliga for the first time this season and suffered their first league defeat since October 2012 as a line-up featuring an exotic blend of seasoned experience and callow youth fell to the only goal of the game away to feisty FC Augsburg on Saturday. It means the Reds’ record unbeaten streak stops at 53 top-flight games, and it was also the first time in 56 Bundesliga fixtures that FCB have not scored at least once.

Top talents Mitch Weiser, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Ylli Sallahi all made starting debuts for the senior team.

It meant the champions lined up with Manuel Neuer in goal, Weiser, Daniel van Buyten, Javi Martinez and Sallahi in the back four, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kroos in central midfield, Xherdan Shaqiri and Hojbjerg on the flanks, and Claudio Pizarro in the hole behind Mario Mandzukic.

I only watched the Atletico and Barcelona matches, but both could have easily dropped points today. Villareal and Betis just could not get much luck in front of goal

Fantastic insight-

Love hearing the skinny from people who get to see these players live. I've never noticed any of that from inside the frame of the TV.

:goodposting:

A nice thing- Dempsey looked sharper as the game went along, was very busy and scoring twice in the last 10 minutes.

Yeah- Yedlin... poor, overly aggressive positioning allowed Nagbe an easy turn and goal or off-the-post shot (can't remember which, there was so much action in the game). But he got forward so well and with such pace (creating the PK for Dempsey's 3rd)... also noticed him with some serious hops, beating his taller mark badly in the air. I didn't notice his side getting torched by Seattle.. not sure if that was his wide MF or CB covering for him, or if maybe he was being less risky with his runs.

Nagbe  he can't be a citizen soon enough.

"THEYRE DREAMING OF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL AT GOODISON PARK"

3-0

If this score holds, Everton will also have Goal Differential advantage over Arsenal.

Wonder how far back you'd have to go to find a season where United and Arsenal both finished outside the top four?
I am on it. Closest so far was 1989-1990 and 86-87 where United came in 13th and 11th and Arsenal came in 4th.
