Altidore not dressed again today ;(
He was dropped to play with the U21's which elicited this tweet. This is going from bad to worse :(

@Metcalficus: Altidore has been just as bad. Small crowd but annoyed at his lack of effort. Has looked totally uninterested #SAFC

I'm imagining United fans slapping their foreheads at the lost season as Kagawa and Chicharito are killing it. Look like a totally different side today.
Been yelling at the TV for months about Kagawa and Moyes' refusal to play him. Whenever Kagawa and Mata have been on the field together its been magic. I don't understand how Moyes believes sitting them or marginalizing them out wide is smart?

I would also rather Chicharito comes on with 30 to go for a goal then welbeck but Chicharito is a poacher and needs service. When he has playmakers around him he is deadly.
The problem is what to do with Rooney and RVP? Does one of them sit?
I'm a tactical moron so this probably makes no sense, but couldn't you play a front three of Rooney, Mata, Kagawa and RVP in a rotation where three of them were on the field centrally at the same time?

Rooney could either play with RVP in front of Mata/Kagawa or join one of those two in the central midfield.

Regardless of whether that's a terrible idea... seems like there should be a way to get three of them, including Kagawa, on the field at the same time without pushing people into positions they can't play.
They could play like Man City, with Kagawa and Mata starting wide and then cutting in like Silva and Nasri. But the problem with that is Rooney and RVP are both more creative/technical strikers who like to drop deep to pick up the ball. So they'd still end up with four guys trying to move into the same space even if none of them start there.

4-1

86′ GOAL! Brown's headed clearance is weak and Kane is able to pick the ball up on the edge of the box. He rounds Brown before firing a shot that Mannone only half saves, leaving it rolling towards the goal line where Adebayor helps it over with a simple tap-in. It's 4-1! http://gfycat.com/AdvancedSilverDorado

CR7 limped out of training today. Real should be fine against Dortmund tomorrow, and they have a pretty easy stretch of Liga fixtures (next 3 at home, only Valencia could present any real trouble), but the Copa final is on the 16th.

Someone invariably gets pushed out wide. I'd like to see them all play as well, but when you try to jam everybody in there they end up in roles that don't get the best out of them. For me, going forward I think RVP is the odd man out.
The problem is that they have a mixture of 4-4-2 personnel and non-4-4-2 personnel on a team that has historically played 4-4-2 (or a close variant of it) but that probably needs to transition to something else tactically. It's a hodge podge, which is why you've got a square-peg-in-round-hole feeling when you're trying to think of a lineup for them right now.

Worse, Moyes is showing that he's at best just spit balling when it comes to offensive tactics.

The only attacking players I feel like I know will be there next year are Rooney and Mata. RVP's relatively old and seems to clash with Rooney, and he's starting to get injured again after a couple of years of good health. Kagawa, for whatever reason, just seems to be out of favor with Moyes. Maybe that'll change if Moyes goes, but then everything's up in the air at that point.
I think RVP may be the odd guy out and worth selling IF Kagawa stays. Otherwise you have Rooney/Mata inside with RVP up front if Kagawa goes. With all four, it also allows you to rest one here and there and not loose much in the attack. Next year might not matter with no CL (or europa) but to be able to rotate 4-5 people through those 3 spots when playing multiple fronts would have been nice. Plus with injuries that depth is crucial.

United have several young talents that Moyes can't seem to figure out how to use in Kagawa, Mata, Januzaj. He never even gave Zaha a shot and now wants to sell him. Fellaini has thrown more elbows then he has headers won...

Thinking about a sneaky bet on Jose to be sacked at the end of the season.

50/1 odds... and no Chelsea manager has survived a trophy-less season

Was looking at Rodgers at 100-1 for next manager to leave and thinking... "there's gotta be a 1% chance Real or Milan throw umpteen squazillion at him".

God forbid. :crosses self:

He'll want to get silverware before he leaves, and I think he's also caught up in the romantic notion of returning Liverpool to past glories, which means he intends to be there for a while. Besides, there's no way that he gets hired by anyone before a good handful of PL managers get canned after the last game of the season.

Back where i belong ⚽️. way way too many people to thank on this long journey back!
I was following this game somewhat just via twitter updates from ChelseaYouth and did a double take when I saw him announced as a late sub. I was wondering how the EPL u21 league compares to the German Regionaliga Sud.

Jay Rodriguez is out 6 months with ACL which means he will miss WC for England.

This likely means Defoe's chances of making the squad just went up.

Be a champion today, Fernando!

Looking for some inspiration from the last time Chelsea overcame a 3-1 away leg deficit - 3/14/12 - and found this. Torres to score the golden goal as a late sub today!

Thanks scoobygang!

What a nightmare it would be for Cavani and Lavezzi, both members of that Napoli team, to suffer the same fate for PSG today.

Bummer, just noticed he had 15 goals this year.

Highly doubt he makes it. Heard Hodgson on the radio last week and he talked about taking a younger-ish team. I could see Gerrard being the only player over 30 to go. No Lampard, Defoe or Carrick...Maybe Lambert sneaks in for depth.

Diego Costa is listed as doubtful (but not off the list) for tomorrow. Arda Turan is out, so Floppo can watch the game without fear of hurting his delicate eyeballs when Iniesta goes down due to a light breeze off the Manzanares.
