Its been a run. Definitely up there on the Mt. Rushmore of US soccer players.

Not terribly surprised, but he could have kept going in MLS for a few more years.

I know there is still some bad blood with the whole USMNT - but I'd like to see them do something for him this fall.
I still feel like JK ####ed him here. And yeah- I do hope they have a nice game or three across the country to give him the send-off he deserves.

up there on Mt Rushmore? reminds me of the princess bride quote... he IS the brute squad.
Built his career on the shoulders of Kyle Rote Jr. ;)
:lmao:

holy crap- I am SOOOO happy that I had forgotten all about the face of US soccer.
3 time Superstars champion, so you know he was the goods.
:lmao:

I am guessing people have to be a certain age to even know who Kyle Rote Jr is - it was a different era ... :lmao:

I'd like to see Messi row a kayak across a swimming pool

@RayHudson: Had a lovely night at Newcastle races with my dad,95. @PhilSchoen told me to bet a horse, carrying #Arsenal colorsguess where it finished?

@landondonovan: After careful deliberation, I have decided that this will be my last season as a professional soccer player https://www.facebook.com/landondonovan/posts/10154476628055010

:(
So bummed about this. In the recent Galaxy matches, he appeared to be over his World Cup snub-induced funk. He is playing well and is a big reason for their good run. He definitely has gas left in the tank. They will miss him next season.

If US Soccer doesn't send him off properly given the fact the national team record book reads like his autobiography, it would be very classless. No way they don't give him a thank-you match.

It was classless to leave him off the squad IMO.

Thx - Spurs board was speculating Seattle wanted to set the transfer record with Yedlin - won't happen with Spurs for $10M - could see them top the $6M though ~ £3.5M

I think I will live long enough to see a US player break Landon's assist record.

I hope I live long enough to see a US player break Landon's scoring record.

I strongly doubt I will live to see one player break both records.

Interesting that the latest rumors have the price down to $3.5 M - at that price, I wonder why Seattle/MLS sells at all. I wonder if they have the right figures, but it should be pounds and not dollars (british version of the same story lists price at £2M though)

I think $6m is a fair price for someone as raw as Yedlin.

Although simply change Yedlin's nationality from American to Dutch(for example) with no other changes in his experience or skill and I bet teams would be willing to go higher than $6m.

I don't think that's fair. If Yedlin as an American had come up through the Dutch youth system, yes, he would be worth considerably more. On the flip side a Dutch player coming up through the US youth system wouldn't be nearly as valueable.I don't think it's the nationality teams are concerned with...

As far as Spurs is concerned, Yedlin is Latvian

That was my whole point.

Don't change anything about what Yedlin is as a player but change his background and he becomes more or less valuable.

"What a shame our countries best player ever and our countries most successful coach ever had to end up like this."
1000 unlikes in your general direction.
WHAT
You know he was talking about Klinsmann - your dislike of JK is clouding your judgement here...sort of like LD...hmmm, I've never seen you and LD in the same room before :tinfoilhat:
13 year old Lan-Don never got over Bora leaving the USMNT to coach Mexico

Awesome. The enmity gives the announcement a little extra spice.

I understood JK's decision. I don't know if I agreed with it, but I didn't have to. Likewise, Landon doesn't have to. Good God, if he's really going into media I hope he retains a little snark. He'll be blander than unleavened bread otherwise.

his so-cal nasally surfer monotone is brutal to listen to for more than a few statements. plus he's more often than not saying the politically right thing (lately) rather than anything of meaning... like Bull Durham's pep-talk. I'd really like to hear him talk pure tactics or game analysis without any concern for crossing anybody- hopefully when he retires, he'll feel free to let his inner snark out more readily.

SO I have a team set up in the EPL fantasty thing...

Do I have to play a 4-4-2? I'll be starting only Coutinho's across the MF.

But he would be more valueable because he has a better base. I guess I'm still missing your point, but I'm drinking and it wouldn't be the first time. :banned:

Pochettino conducted his press conference in English yesterday, said he was too "nervous" about his language capability when he was at Southampton.

Has there been any evidence yet of Spurs picking up on the style he likes to play? I've only seen the one friendly and that didn't tell me much.

Does anybody know of any tv coverage of Championship League matches this weekend? That'd be a nice warmup for next Saturday.
