There are a disproportionate number of "full kit wankers" who are Liverpool fans. It's unbelievable how many 'Pool fan photos like this get put out there.
I imagine if you did a venn diagram of liverpool fans and wankers there would be a considerable overlap

Those cleats look like they have never been worn outside of the house.

Good finds by Christo.

One of my IRL friends, knowing that I'd switched sports, asked me this morning what would happen if a prominent PL player was caught on video giving his girlfriend the ol' Ray Rice in an elevator. I didn't think much would happen at all, at least from a league and club standpoint, but I'm new at this and am interested to hear opinions from more experienced observers.

Get sold to Barca?

Serious answer is not much.

Anyone on here play FIFA? That's what got me into 'futbol' again, that and I played through high school and on adult leagues after college.

The demo for FIFA15 dropped last night (I haven't downloaded it yet) and the full game comes out in a few weeks.

I really enjoy the game, although the FUT can get pretty cheezy if you play online.

You think there are no scandals in the world of professional soccer?

Some of the biggest, most heinous scandals ever are in the soccer world. And not just lower tier guys - some of the most famous players in the world.

As to what would happen, well, clubs tend to let the courts sort all of that out. I think it's been relatively rare where a club has punished their own player. But there have obviously been suspensions given by governing entities in the past.

I play when I can pry it away from the kid. The demo is cool and the new one touch passing is slick

I would get it, if I didn't have so much invested into FUT on 14.

Obviously there have been off-field misbehaviors by players. But fan, league and club reactions to those transgressions appear to be, in my very limited knowledge, substantially different than they are here in the states. If I'm right about this, it makes for a fairly interesting discussion. Well, for nerds like me anyway.

I am struggling to find incidences where players were suspended in the PL for off-field conduct - closest has been Eric Cantona who went after a supporter in the crowd - technically off the field. But I am not finding anything related to drug arrests, DUIs, domestic violence, sleeping with your teammates WAG, seems more likely...

Lesson learned - assault your girlfriend but don't touch the ballboy.

Adrian Mutu was booted by Chelsea and had a long ban for failing a drug test about 10 years ago. Agree there's not much of this for all the crazy #### these guys get into.

edit - Mutu's drug of choice was cocaine, not a PED

Spurs and Hull City are reportedly both for sale. I think Aston Villa is still somewhat on the market as well.
Joe Lewis is looking for $1B for Spurs - which means he probably won't sell, absent a crazy offer, until they get the new stadium in place, which is delayed again as the last landowner has appealed the compulsory purchase order.

Of course, he is 77, so he could kick the bucket before the new stadium is complete.

Also, I think most people believe Southampton is for sale - owner died, leaving the club with his daughter, who has not shown a real interest in keeping the club, or many key players (except the ones Spurs wanted...)

Manchester United out with their financials. Newsflash they made moolah last year. Back of the envelope calculation for this year say they may be lose about 60-90 million pounds after all those transfers for this year and the expected lost 40 million pounds in revenue. That's mitigated since they paid back about 50 million on their debt last year.

Granted the full brunt of last year's season doesn't hit until this year, but they should be able to spend reasonably well on transfers even if they miss the CL again this year.

http://www.espnfc.us/manchester-united/story/2028546/manchester-united-record-annual-revenue-433-million-pounds
In related news, the real reason for the bigger iPhone 6+: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BxLRrLcCAAAKdPm.jpg
I guess they updated the story as this little tidbit seems somewhat important:

"We assume [united will finish] third in our budgets," Woodward said in a conference call to Wall Street analysts.
Is it okay for me to mention that I can't wait for them to finish 7th, or no?
Well they don't have to pay Moyes 5.2 million pounds to go away this year, so they have that going for them as well. Their wage bill also goes down as they don't have to pay CL bonuses and shipped out Welbeck, Cleverly, et al.
Cleverly and Welbeck combined make less than Flacao, their wage bill will not go down.
They also had Rio, Vidic, and Evra come off.
Strangely, in his last Champions League game managing United, Fergie started Welbeck, Cleverly, Rio, Vidic and Evra against Real Madrid and was leading 1-0 (2-1 agg) until Nani's red card.
Welbeck was great in that match. I think United wins if Nani doesn't get sent off but I'm biased.

Tell me more. I know a little about Ribery's misdeeds. I'm trying to get a comparison on the kinds of behavioral demands Euro fans make versus Americans.

I love FIFA. We have a thread in here somewhere for it. Part of me can't wait for the new one, part of me is bummed I'll have to start a new career mode. I've built Wolverhampton into a ####### powerhouse.

FIFA and FM would be the gruesome death of me.

literally actually true.
Now, throw in Subbuteo. :headexplodes:
dammit. I loved Subbuteo... but had no idea how to play the damn thing. Made up the rules and method of playing with the one friend of mine who would play it. I had Peru (white jersey with diagonal stripe... which I'm still partial to)
My son is 2 right now. One Christmas (probably around 8, or so), I'm going to build him a Subbuteo table modeled to look like Anfield.

Seems like momentum is picking up, with the Guggenheim Partners (Dodgers) involved with a new investment bank venture formed in the last couple of days Cain Hoy - seemingly with the intent of buying Spurs (or financing the new stadium, depending on who you believe).

ETA - Cain Hoy have confirmed their interest in buying Tottenham Hotspur and now have until October 10 to make a firm offer or pull out.

“Cain Hoy confirms that it is at the preliminary stages of assessing a cash offer for Tottenham Hotspur. Cain Hoy's considerations are at an early stage, and there can be no certainty that any offer will ultimately be made or at what price any offer might be made.

“In accordance with Rule 2.6(a) of the City Code on Takeovers and Mergers (the "Code"), Cain Hoy must, by not later than 5.00 p.m. on 10 October 2014, either announce a firm intention to make an offer for Tottenham Hotspur in accordance with Rule 2.7 of the Code or announce that it does not intend to make an offer, in which case the announcement will be treated as a statement to which Rule 2.8 of the Code applies. This deadline will only be extended with the consent of the Takeover Panel (the "Panel") in accordance with Rule 2.6© of the Code.

“This announcement has been made without the consent of Tottenham Hotspur. A further announcement will be made in due course.”
Also - Guggenheim Partners are apparently minority partners in Cain Hoy - no controlling stake, though both key members of Cain Hoy are former Guggenheim employees.

Of course, this could be simply a ploy to get Cain Hoy's name in the press...
I'd be surprised if that was the case, the Guggenheim's tend to not mess around.
Hard to say - with one press release, they have the entire London Financial District in a tizzy - they have announced who they are, who backs them, and they are open for business. Hard to imagine a more effective PR campaign to launch a business - which launched yesterday.

Those of you talking FIFA in here...what system? I'm still on the 360 but loosely considering an upgrade soon.

Sebowski/Gator - get the team back together? My man Santos needs to rise from the grave.

Just my gut feeling, but I don't think I'd want my club owned by a private equity group.

Here's the announcement -- http://www.prnewswire.co.uk/news-releases/cain-hoy-enterprises-announces-launch-of-operations-274809291.html

In, still on the 360 here too

Thinking about nixing Welsh Xavi and going with Jordandroid Henderson
