15th!!!!!!

And that's it for the EPL season. Time for the transfer window. United have a lot of decisions to make and some business to get done. IMO their top priorities should be a Striker, Right Wing Back and Keeper. And a lot of sales.

Loans ending for Rashford, Antony, Malacia, Sancho (Chelsea reportedly want to pay to give him back). Need to find buyers for them.
Sell Onana, Bayindor, Hojlund
If a decent offer comes in then sell Dalot and Shaw
Erikson, Lindelof, Evans salaries off the books.

The questions then become Garnacho and Bruno.
Garnacho is young but has played a lot of matches. Not sure he fits the formation/tactics/style. I do not see his decision making or his finishing improving. 60-70m? You might have to sell.
Bruno has been their best player since he was signed. Only goal threat too. Hate to see him go, but if you can get 100m for a soon to be 31 year old for a team that isn't competing for another season or two? You might have to consider it.

Sounds like Matheus Cunha is heading for United. Will be a nice 10.

Ronaldo said he is done in Saudi but not retiring.
Reportedly he wants to move to a team in the club world cup.
Juve? (Since he played there before and their forwards haven't really lit it up this year... Looking at you Vlahovic)
Rumors I've read is one of the Brazilian sides.
He speaka da language, so it makes sense.

Also makes sense as a one-off destination... Iirc, Deco and some other Portuguese stars went to Brazil for a year or two at the end of their careers. Can't imagine the money would be good, but not like he's hurting for money.

Going back to Sporting Lisbon would be cool too.

Are they in the CWC?

No. Porto and Benfica are the Portuguese side. Just think it would be cool for these big stars to go back to their first clubs at the end of their careers.

If I'm Ronaldo's agent and CWC and possibly next summer's WC are the goal for ending his career, I'd be trying to get him to LAFC. Get the US exposure up. Get a little coastal rivalry going with Messi. He'd dominate in MLS with his finishing skills.

It'd be huge for LAFC marketing too.

My guess is Nike and Adidas will pull out all the stops to engineer a meeting with Inter Miami and Messi. To guarantee a group stage game, that means Palmeiras, Porto or Al Ahly. Al Ahly seems out, and I don't think its likely a Sporting youth player could play for Porto, so my money is on Palmeiras. They have a Portuguese coach - Abel Ferreira.

Man U booed off the field by 74k fans as they lost to a local team in Kuala Lumpur.

tbf- it was a team of SE Asian all-stars... powerhouse, if you will, so- to be expected.

eta:
but really- who the hell thought it was a good idea to have them play a match there, now. these poor players can't buy a day off.

ok... Betis v Chelsea... aka Johnny vs the world... at 3pm ET (I assume Paramount... no idea, tbh).

If Chelsea win this, what are the ramifications for CL/UCL in the EPL?

Really is a ridiculous money grab to play two post season friendlies before going off on vacation.

I was watching the beginning of the match, some starters, some kids. 30 mins in more kids came on for United. Saw some good things and the normal "no goal scorers" issues. But overall not worth the time or the hate it will receive, esp after losing.
Everyone was drenched in sweat, must be humid. Didn't watch the second half.

I don't think it affects anything really. Does it get Forest into the Conference league or are they already? Chelsea are in the CL so winning and a spot on the Europa won't matter.

just googled it...
you're right, nothing changes in the EPL. All spots accounted for.

eta: let it be known I took a cheap shot at united in my post above before deciding BMav has already suffered enough.

If Chelsea win, their Europa spot in that stage will be another European team. Ajax most likely. I did a full AI thing earlier and can post later.

European Teams on Alert for Potential Europa League Windfall from Chelsea Victory

Should Chelsea triumph in today's UEFA Europa Conference League final, a ripple effect will be felt across the continent, with a coveted Europa League group stage spot becoming available. The primary beneficiaries of this scenario would not be another English club, but rather a team from a different European league, determined by their UEFA club coefficient.

With Chelsea having already secured a place in the lucrative Champions League through their Premier League performance, their potential Conference League title would vacate the associated Europa League berth. UEFA regulations dictate that this spot is then awarded to the highest-ranked club in the five-year UEFA club coefficient list that has qualified for the Europa League qualifying rounds or, in some cases, the highest-ranked team in a domestic league without a direct group stage place.

This complex redistribution process puts several clubs across Europe on high alert, with their final league standings and domestic cup performances from the 2024/2025 season proving crucial. While the final list of beneficiaries is contingent on the completion of all domestic competitions and the final UEFA club coefficient rankings, several teams are in a strong position to capitalize.

Here are some of the teams that could potentially benefit, based on current standings and cup results:

The Netherlands: AFC Ajax

The most likely beneficiary of a Chelsea victory is Dutch giants AFC Ajax. Having finished fifth in the Eredivisie, they are currently slated to enter the Europa League at the second qualifying round. As the highest-ranked team in the UEFA club coefficient list that is not already directly qualified for a group stage, they are in a prime position to be elevated directly to the Europa League group stage, bypassing the qualification process.

Portugal: FC Porto

Sporting CP's domestic double in Portugal, winning both the Primeira Liga and the Taça de Portugal, has already opened up a Europa League spot that will be redistributed based on league position. FC Porto, as the third-placed team, are set to benefit from this, securing a Europa League qualifying spot. A Chelsea win could potentially further improve their seeding or entry point in the competition, depending on the final coefficient calculations.

Belgium: Club Brugge

Club Brugge has been confirmed as the winner of the 2024/2025 Belgian Cup. Depending on their final league standing and their UEFA club coefficient relative to other potential beneficiaries, they could also be in contention for an upgraded position in the Europa League.

It is important to note that the final determination of which club benefits rests with UEFA and is subject to the finalization of all domestic league and cup competitions across its member associations and the conclusive 2024/2025 UEFA club coefficient rankings. However, the prospect of a shortcut to the Europa League group stage will have many clubs outside of England watching today's Conference League final with keen interest.

Obviously the spot should go to the team that lost in the Europa finals so that Tottenham could clear the dust out of its trophy case.

eta: let it be known I took a cheap shot at united in my post above before deciding BMav has already suffered enough.
Let it fly. United deserves all the shots since they can't seem to make any land for themselves.
After "just googled it" I made a crack about how united get a spot, because if spursy spurs get one after THAT season, so should united.
So basically the same joke I just made!!! :lmao: :lmao:

far be it for me to doubt our AI overlords, but last I checked, Ajax finished 2nd in the Eredivise, not fifth
Lol... I was wondering about that- pretty far fall in the last day, losing out on 1st to PSV and somehow sliding to 5th at the same time.
That collapse was so bad they considered bringing back ETH.

Speaking of ETH, now that he's at Leverkusen, let's hope he continues his tradition of signing former players at his new club. Why sign Mark Flekken to play GK when your boy Onana is available?
Does being Dutch outweigh being a former player of ETH?
Flekken is 31 and Onana is 29, go younger!

I would not be surprised if this was the largest contract ever given in team sports to a 17 year old. And yet I can’t help but think Barca got an incredible steal here

=================

[El Pais] The 17-year-old Lamine Yamal will earn €15M per year in his new 6-year-contract with FC Barcelona. If Yamal achieves his performance-based bonuses, he will instead earn €20M per year

Three London clubs lifting a trophy this season?! Tough year for Gunner fans...
https://www.fotmob.com/embed/news/0...ikel-arteta-makes-stinging-man-utd-comparison

“Now, for the last three years Arsenal have been in a situation where they should have at least brought one cup in or a final.” To underscore his point, Henry turned to the club which served as Arsenal’s chief rival during his playing career in the capital. “Manchester United have played in five finals in the last five years,” Henry sighed, “the United that everyone laughs at, whereas for Arsenal in the last three years of building, they’ve not reached a final.

I always liked Thierry Henry.

Arsenal women won the CL
Chelsea's women's team has won the last 6 league titles and 4 of the last 5 FA Cups.... Chelsea fans barely care. If that's the copium Gunner fans are using, it's a pretty sad state of being in North London.
The end of this video is just hilarious to me: https://youtube.com/shorts/TF6HSrsaQYA

They had more points last year than Liverpool finished with this year. So pretty much the same thing as a trophy.
I do think most Gunners fans are pretty bitterly disappointed with the team this year. It's not being second so much. It's finishing with 72 points. I don't see how you can argue that was a good showing even in a league with a lot of parity. It reminds me of the Leicester title season in that the rest of the league was down and it was Arsenal's chance and they blew it (to be clear, this Liverpool team is much better than that Leicester team and I think Liverpool could have gotten to 90 points if they had felt any urgency at all).

It's also the feeling of the team not investing in areas that every Arsenal fan knows they need to invest in. The team does not have a potential 30 goal striker. We've known that for three years and we're still starting years hoping Kai Haavertz can stay healthy and productive and that Saka can make a leap to a truly elite player.

This off season, they are widely believed to be taking their pick of Gyorkes or Sesko, but we're already hearing talk of Gyorkes (certainly the more productive player of the two candidates) going elsewhere. And because Sesko still feels like a guy with more potential than production, I can easily see the team "stuck" with him as the option and then being reluctant to pull the trigger because his price is too high with Red Bull knowing Arsenal need him.
