Been watching a bit of Sunderland v. Newcastle - Yedlin continues to start, looks like they will keep a clean sheet at home, but Yedlin has not seemed to be tested much for what I have seen
parts I watched, Yedlin did a good job closing down any attack that came down his side. seemed like Newcastle had better success going against the opposite side. I was happy for the kid... any USMNT victory these days (even if it means being forced to watch ####### sunderland).
Yedlin's one on one defending needs work. Mitrovic schooled him pretty bad and Yedlin was bailed out when Mitrovic shot straight at Elliot. I saw at least one other time where the same thing happened. Yedlin left his feet to go for the block, Perez put on the breaks and got his cross off with Yedlin still trying to get off the ground.

wow, LA @ Seattle for a single game knockout game this week. That is going to be fun!

Congrats to NY. So steady all year and did it with zero big name players.

All 3 Canadian teams make the playoffs.

Chelsea having their worst season in 20 years. Just an absolute train wreck. And this with largely the same team that won the EPlL12 months prior. Im not so much bitter (OK yes I am :bag: ) as I am befuddled as to whats going on. Defense is in shambles, offense is predictable. All of Mourinho's shenningans coming bak to bite him in the ###. What a ###### mess.

It's a highly entertaining run though, much more interesting than the second half cruise last season.

At least you didn't fall asleep on the toilet for 7 hours

I thought United played really well and controlled the game. I just wish LvG would have given Martial some time up top and put Rooney out wide to pasture. He looked dangerous out on the wing but they made it too easy to defend him leaving him out on the left the whole game.
I watched the first half and United held the ball well, had some nice play but ultimately noone to get at the goal. Martial looked good, again but is marginalized out wide.

Fixed your mistake. Rooney needs to sit for awhile. He looks lost, gives away balls, has no desire to shoot, cant run past people, doesnt get in behind the defense. He has gone full Falcao. Get Martial up top and put your choice of Young, Lingard or Memphis wide left and leave Rooney and Fellaini in the dressing room.

Best rumor I heard was that Moyes may still be screwing United by having given Rooney a clause as part of his contract extension saying he starts when fit. Only thing that makes sense when a manager loves ball control yet runs out a guy that had a pass completion rating equal to the opposition's keeper and was the worst on his team by far.

City, without Aguero, was there for the taking. United didnt start anyone up top that could make it hurt.

I have a bunch of stats to compare and post later but this will suffice for now.

A couple of years ago, many who follow MLS attendance pointed to the 2015 season as the year that would break all the records. This was due to 2 new expansion franchises starting and SJ moving out of their tiny stadium into a new one. Added to these were TFC expanding their stadium and Chivas shutting down.

I think this will be the high water mark for a few years, or at least until Miami, LA and Minnesota all come into the league. I expect some pull back next year in the numbers.

To understand how strong this number below is, Portland sells out every single game at 21,144 and they are lowering the league average. For anyone who has followed this leagues for years, that is a mind blowing statement.

Ian Thomas @byIanThomas

MLS finishes the '15 season with an average attendance of 21,574 - a new league record & an increase of 12.7% YoY

What changes do you intend to make in soccer and to FIFA if elected?
“I want to bring something that doesn’t exist today in FIFA. Together with other members of my team, we went over FIFA statutes, and nowhere in the 81 pages do the words ‘democracy’ or ‘transparency’ appear. I intend to introduce total transparency, how the World Cup host countries are chosen, how the president is chosen and, especially, who gets the television broadcasting rights.

“Explain to me how soccer’s schedule moves in favor of a place like Qatar. They don’t belong to soccer, it’s not a place that should host the World Cup – yet the whole world changes for them. People are going to be punished for this, yet still the tournament will be played there?

For one Chelsea fan, seeing Andy Carroll in a London restaurant was just too much following the 2-1 defeat to West Ham United.

The striker had scored the winner for the Hammers at Upton Park on Saturday, and was enjoying a meal with friends at Japanese restaurant Roka the following evening, per the Sun.

However, the 26-year-old's evening got a little messy for all the wrong reasons, when a man approached the table. An argument ensued, with red wine being thrown before security guards intervened.

A source said, per the newspaper: "A man, who was in a group of Chelsea fans, tried to go up and kiss him, which led to a skirmish. Carroll hadn’t even had food or a drink at that point when the hammered geezer started giving him s--t."

The incident, which took place between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., was confirmed by staff at the eatery, but police were not called.

The Chelsea fan may have been drowning his sorrows following their fifth defeat in just 10 Premier League games.

No doubt but I meant in-game. Completely agree that I'd rather see Depay or Lingard from the start but once it was painfully obvious yet again that Rooney was doing nothing and that Martial was causing them trouble I don't get why they didn't swap for at least a period of time.

Sepp Blatter speaks. Interestingly the interview is with TASS -- the official news agency of the Russian Government.

TL;DR - It's all Platini's fault.
He said: "In 2010 we had a discussion of the World Cup and then we went to a double decision. For the World Cups it was agreed that we go to Russia because it's never been in Russia, eastern Europe, and for 2022 we go back to America. And so we will have the World Cup in the two biggest political powers.

"And everything was good until the moment when [then French President Nicolas] Sarkozy came in a meeting with the crown prince of Qatar, who is now the ruler of Qatar. And at a lunch afterwards with Mr Platini he said it would be good to go to Qatar. And this has changed all pattern.

"There was an election by secret ballot. Four votes from Europe went away from the USA and so the result was 14 to eight. If you put the four votes, it would have been 12 to 10. If the USA was given the World Cup, we would only speak about the wonderful World Cup 2018 in Russia and we would not speak about any problems at FIFA."

A little too late to figure that out now.

I just love have Platini and Blatter just keep screwing each other over and over again over the past 20 years. So much double dealing, payoffs, and "handshake" agreements it's just so satisfying to see these two men get their comeuppances.

A Platini/Blatter frenemy pic would be as fascinating as United Passions was boring.
I do love that pretty much all this stuff dates back to 1992 when Blazer, Blatter, and Platini set the 1998 French WC into motion. They've been lining each other pockets and screwing each other every since then.

Are there any other presidential candidates, besides Zico, who have publicly stated it is ridiculous the WC is still staying in Qatar?

Well now. It looks like the Union will be announcing next Wednesday that they’ll be launching a USL team in Bethlehem.

==============

If they name this anything but Bethlehem Steel FC, I will be bummed.
sweet!

Related: The Red Bulls will be changing their name to New York Pancyprian-Freedoms and NYCFC will be called New York Greek American Atlas.

Can the Fall River Marksmen and Brooklyn Wanderers be far behind? Let's hope not.
