English teams will be buying in Europe because a) they don´t have enough native talent, and b) they need to regain competitiveness.

I concur about la Liga really squandering the homegrown talent pool in Spain. They need some TV revenue sharing and they need it now.
English clubs have spent far more than clubs from other leagues the past several years and that gap will likely increase this summer and continue to increase at least for the next few years. The reason is quite apparent - they have much greater ability to spend due to significantly greater revenue for FFP break-even purposes than all but a handful of continental clubs.

Would expect a big rethink on FFP sooner rather than later if it looks like English clubs are collectively going to clean up under those rules.

@BrianStraus: Wheels in motion in Minneapolis. Unconfirmed, but hearing United's official welcome to MLS could come as early as next week.

They can shop around because the have much higher revenue numbers top to bottom than competing leagues. Once you get out of top two in any other country those values fall off a cliff. That's even without the current exchange rate added in.

There will still be a ton of competition at the top though. That's never going to change.

My buddy, a big spurs fan, made his first trip to England this week for a wedding. He wasn't planning on going to WHO because it was difficult travel planning as the wedding was last night in Manchester. But I convinced him it was the right call to suck it up and get to London for the match.

I'm sure he feels he made the right call after today's game. Must be a dream for any spurs fan to see a Kane hat trick and a seven goal game by spurs.

Odd question (they all are for me):

I was reading a Chelsea blog last week after they were eliminated from the Champions League. Nobody seemed upset about it...people were commenting that the focus should be on winning the Premier and that they were excited about that.

Is that a common approach? I though CL was the biggest deal, the Super Bowl for lack of a better term. Or were these just bitter fans who just wanted to move on?

There are a lot of people (me included) who put domestic league title over everything. You'll get a lot of yokels in here claiming otherwise. They would be wrong.

IMO, the CL is more prestigious, but it's also a bit of a crapshoot. Chelsea fans know that better than anybody - they've had a lot of great teams come up short in the CL, but lucked their way into winning it in 2012 when their team wasn't very good.

Chelsea hasn't won the Premier League since 2010 so that's probably also a factor.

For a team like Chelsea both are the goals. It isn't a one vs other thing until they are out of one. The double is what makes you the best team in the world that year. And that's what the big teams want.

Liverpool won the Champion's League in 2005 and I was very happy, but regardless of the level of competition it's still a Cup. A knockout tournament where weird things can happen.

Being the best team over nine months and 38 games means you are without doubt the best team that year. And Liverpool haven't won that in the nearly 20 years I've been on board. So for me the EPL would be the one I want more.

Supporters of a different team might feel differently. And it could change with circumstance too -- a couple league wins and the CL might seem like a bigger priority.

Spurs just would have flamed out in the group stage anyway.

Negative.

Let me amend that. Barca is alright with me. "Suck it Barca fans who jumped on the ####### bandwagon" is the more proper phrasing.

Bale scored 26 goals that year. Thanks for playing.

Playing in the Champions League. Not to be confused with the Championship, where QPR will be playing next year.

Not wearing white and blue. Europa might as well be the Championship.
