They have been since all the veterans got hurt, and there really is no reason for guys like fellaini, rooney, carrick to be starting at this point. United looks better with the kids (including Mata, Herrera and Schneiderlin). But LVG's infinite wisdom....I'll say this, the kids from United have shown up
Rashford = speed
So who was the first big international transfer?wdcrob said:My ding on the Bayern/Real/Ajax/Liverpool/Milan teams is that you didn't really see the same sort of player movement across borders you do now. Or at least that's my impression. Without looking I'll bet those teams were mostly made up of home-grown players?
ETA: what retired said.
Navas has been good, not de gea good but that wouldnt be horribleWhat a fun day. ManU actually had some answers today and would have made it close, if not for a moment of magic.
Seeing ManU try to score 3 goals in one half has been funny.
Cant wait for De Gea to go to Madrid.
Zidane I think. Juve to MadridSo who was the first big international transfer?
Thanks. Crazy that was only 15 years ago.Zidane I think. Juve to Madrid
Doesn't mean it's correct, just the earliest big money one I recallThanks. Crazy that was only 15 years ago.
Hard to imagine us beating them over two games. I think we need the one game matchup to have a chance plus we need another few months for Sturridge to shake off the cobwebs, he looks extremely rusty. So a Liverpool-Dortmund final would be sweet
He wasSturridge to shake off the cobwebs, he looks extremely rusty.
when being taken offAre you asking who was the first big player to move on a free transfer which is what Bosman allowed? So who was the first big international transfer?
Yes, the structure is very similar to the UCL. Two games ties until the final which is a single game played at a predetermined site (Europa Final is in Basel this year)Final = one game?
More like "What player transfer started the huge international movement?" Y'all were talking about how different the game is now from the 70s and 80s regarding international player movement. Just wondering if there was a person it could be tied to. I understand the Bosman rule, but in my time following soccer, that's very rarely a major signing. Are you asking who was the first big player to move on a free transfer which is what Bosman allowed?
Players have been transfered between clubs for decades now. I don't know how to compare a Zidane transfer with a transfer of a player like Alfredo Di Stefano.
If you are only interested in the top money transfers, here is a list

I do not believe so..it has it's own spotIf Liverpool win the Europa League and get the ticket to next years UCL, does that mean the team who comes in 4th in the EPL goes to Europa next year?
Are you saying free transfers are rare? They number in the hundreds if not thousands world wide every year.More like "What player transfer started the huge international movement?" Guardian says EPL would get five spots. If Liverpool wins Europa and Chelsea wins Champions League then the fourth place team would be out.If Liverpool win the Europa League and get the ticket to next years UCL, does that mean the team who comes in 4th in the EPL goes to Europa next year?
Oh wow, you mean England could have 5 teams in the Champions League? I did not know that was possible. That will really make things easier to keep ahead of italy.I do not believe so..it has it's own spot
No you guys are right.
They are very rarely a big money signing. Check the edit. Are you saying free transfers are rare? They number in the hundreds if not thousands world wide every year.
The wiki list I gave you should give you a feel for the big money tranfers but I should mention again that major players have been transfered for decades in the sport. But the money in the 70's can't be compared to the money today.
It is no different in say the NBA or MLB. Free agent signings today are so much bigger money wise than in the 70's and 80's but that does not mean the players are that much better.
I don't think there is one big transfer everyone references as you're asking. Cruyff made a big move from Ajax to Barca in the 70s, Maradonna went from Boca to Barca to Napoli in the 80s. But it was more a change in Eurpean law that opened the floodgates. Before the EEC, EU and Boseman, most FAs in Europe had protectionist limits on foreign players. They are very rarely a big money signing. Check the edit. I forgot how literal you are about everything.
Just wondering if there was a person we could point to that marked when the floodgates opened. The Tom Chambers of European soccer if you will. Maybe there's no equivalency.
There can be 5If Liverpool win the Europa League and get the ticket to next years UCL, does that mean the team who comes in 4th in the EPL goes to Europa next year?
Before my time but that's hilariousFree Bosman signing?
PAUL POGBA
Untied, ouch
Until Joe Cole is dead, I don't think we should taunt anyone.Free Bosman signing?
PAUL POGBA
Untied, ouch
No need to be such a jerk about it. I honestly had no idea what you were asking, the sentence made absolutely no sense. They are very rarely a big money signing. Check the edit. I forgot how literal you are about everything.
I know. That's why I edited that sentence out but not before the post got quoted. My bad.No need to be such a jerk about it. I honestly had no idea what you were asking, the sentence made absolutely no sense.
yes, I understand what you meant much better now and I agree with it. I have no idea why you felt the need to insult me when I was just trying to help.I know. That's why I edited that sentence out but not before the post got quoted. My bad.
I would disagree that, as revised, the sentence made no sense.
First leg matches are April 5th and 6thWhen is the next round? Godin is hurt for a few weeks.
The skeptics would say there's just no way UEFA was going to risk missing out on this tie. Got your wish though Gator, just a couple rounds early. So a Liverpool-Dortmund final would be sweet
