I hate ManU and I'd love to say "he's going to be 35 in October so I'm not worried", but it's a great signing.  He scored 52 goals last year!  That's amazing, even if Ligue 1 isn't very good.

Stifling Mourinho defense and Zlatan as a towering presence in the front, I think ManU will contend for the title.

He probably won't play the EL or Capital One cup games from now until January, I'd imagine they'd give Rashford all those games.

I hate, hate, hate this.

I currently think the title chase is going to be wide open between ManU, Man City and Chelsea.  I don't believe Arsenal, Tott and LIV have enough to win the title, but I suppose history shows that's unlikely anyway.

Arsenal in particular is in real danger of finally falling out of the top four.  LIV and Tott should be really good.  I'm not trying to be unrealistic with LIV, but they will be battling all the way to the end, especially with no European football.

"I can't help but laugh at how perfect I am."

"Swedish style? No. Yugoslavian style? Of course not. It has to be Zlatan-style."

"Zlatan doesn't do auditions."
-- When Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger offered the then-teenaged Ibrahimovic a trial.

"What Carew does with a football, I can do with an orange."
-- In response to Norway striker John Carew's suggestions that Ibrahimovic's flicks and tricks were "pointless."

"First I went left; he did too. Then I went right and he did too. Then I went left again and he went to buy a hot dog."
-- On how he twisted Liverpool defender Stephane Henchoz inside-out.

"When you buy me, you are buying a Ferrari. If you drive a Ferrari you put premium petrol in the tank, you hit the motorway and you step on the gas. Guardiola filled up with diesel and took a spin in the countryside. He should have bought a Fiat."
-- On his single season at Barcelona where he endured a tense relationship with then-coach Pep Guardiola.

"What do you mean, 'present?' She got Zlatan."
- On his ex-girlfriend's engagement gift.

"We're looking for an apartment. If we don't find anything, then I'll probably just buy the hotel."
-- At his unveiling as a PSG player.

"It's true I don't know much about the players here, but they definitely know who I am."
-- On his move to Ligue 1 in 2012.

"We were looking through his playlist in the dressing room -- there was lots of Justin Bieber, Jonas Brothers and Selena Gomez. It is nice to know that even David Beckham doesn't have good taste in everything."

"There was the thought that this would send me into retirement. I sent their entire country into retirement."
- After scoring twice to qualify Sweden for Euro 2016 over Denmark

"I don't believe they can change the Eiffel Tower for my statue, even the people behind the club. But if they can, I will stay here -- I promise you."
- On his future with PSG

And there was this famous exchange with a reporter ahead of the 2014 World Cup qualifying playoffs:

Zlatan: "Only God knows who will go through."
Reporter: "It's hard to ask him."
Zlatan: "You're talking to him."

And when Sweden lost to Portugal and failed to qualify?

"A World Cup without me is nothing to watch, so it is not worth waiting for the World Cup."

I agree on Tottenham, their youth and maybe the disappointment from last year fuels some hunger to finally finish above Arsenal and maybe even grab a title.

Leicester down?
I think Leicester struggles with squad depth playing CL, EPL, FA Cup games.

A wide open title race between the 4th, 5th, and 10th placed teams from the prior year?
With Jose, Zlatan and a couple other signings I do not think you can count out United.  City with Pep should continue to challenge.  Hard to imagine with all their talent Chelsea put in another season like the last one.  Liverpool could be a sneaky contender but unless they upgrade some spots I am not sure how close they will be just because of Klopp. Plus why does Liverpool think buying mid table players from Southampton will get them to the top of the table?  :boxing:

In no particular order challenging for the title: United, City, Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, West Ham, Liverpool, Leicester....
(although after typing it out, I could see this as the final standings too)

I could never figure out how much of The Zlatan is shtick.  Sometimes I think he is in on the joke and plays it to the hilt and sometimes I think he's completely serious.  Either way he is a treasure.

Not that hard to believe.  Leicester is going to be trying as hard as they can to hold onto players, while everyone else adds.  Chelsea had a down year, but won it the year before.

He puts United over the top IMO. Lucky Manchester fans.

Only hope is that he and Mourinho have a public spat that snowballs....

when United also adds Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the squad, I think they will have quite the attack. Just wondering what formation they run?

4-3-3 with Martial, Zlatan and Henrikh up top?  Whos the MF 3? Rooney, Scheniderlin, ??

4-1-4-1 or 4-2-3-1 would work, Zlatan up top with Martial, ??, Rooney, Henrikh accross and Schneiderlin supporting?

Are the Pogba rumors credible? And what happens to Mata?

and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let the Sneijder for Fellaini swap be true?  Or a Fellaini for any of us on this board swap?!?!  He needs to go.  There is a reason Belgium looked better after he was dropped.  And his 5 min cameo last game came with a booking up 3-0?

Zlatan + Mourinho seems like a terrible match.  Zlatan doesn't do any of the stuff Jose seems to want out of his front man (Costa, Drogba, Torres, etc).  Other than score goals I mean.  And Zlatan doesn't seem like he'd be happy as a sub either.  Seems combustible to me.

for a non aligned fan like myself in terms of EPL play that just means   for me :)

For those of us who have to record during the workday, please restrict Poland-Portugal( :X ) commentary to the tournament thread. TIA, YIC, yada yada

Claude Puel confirmed as Soton manager, setting him up to move on and replace his old pal Arsene Wenger in two years. Southampton, the Miami of Ohio for Prem managers.

I doubt it.  I'd imagine he's headed to a big CL team.

Batshuayi is in at Chelsea. Hopefully he'll remind us of the last striker we signed from Marseille. Pretty strong rumors on Koulibaly and noise about Kante and Bonucci, although I'll put no stock in any of those until I see the pen in their hand with the club logo behind them. Conte arrives next week and the first exhibition game is 13 days away. I feel so sorry for my wife and kids.

Koulibaly was immense at the back for Napoli this past year.  I would say he was their most important player (sans Higuain)...his improvement from last year was significant, & was reflected in Napoli's growth as a staunch defensive unit.  One player I would be glad to see leave Serie A.

This is all well and good but I'm not believing it until the chick with the giant cans tells me about it.

Sophie had a long and grueling season. She's taking a few weeks off but will be back with more fantastic post-game fan interviews outside the Bridge in a few short weeks.

NYCFC picked up their first derby win today beating Red Bull 2-0.

NYCFC moves into first in the East (they have played 2 more games than Montreal who sit 3 points back).

Question for all you Arsenal/Barcelona fans, concerning cb Vermaelan(?)...Roma has recently been linked with him as a Rudiger(out till October) replacement...knowing full well he has his own injury problems, just how talented is he, & would he be worth an 8-10 mil investment?  Spaletti is desperately looking for a CB that can play the ball out from the back... I haven't really seen him play, does his talent & distribution make up for his other inadequacies?  He obviously won't have any resale value at his age...

When he has been on the field for Barcelona, he has been fantastic.  Looked like the best CB in the squad at the start of the 15-16 campaign.  ####er just cannot stay healthy.
