Ramsay Hunt Experience said:
Developmentally, the A/B split is probably better for both sets.  That way no parent is pissed because his decent kid has to give up some minutes and touches to a crappy kid.  Let the decent kids compete and the crappy kids maximize their touches.  Win/win.
:lmao:  @ "crappy kids".  So cold, man...So cold.

In normal circumstances I'd agree, but that ain't happening here. WOOOOF

These guys are still babies at U9 - so I told him to not overthink it and do whatever his gut tells him.  If I had my way, I'd make it an A/B too - but I didn't feel right saying it given I can't give an unbiased opinion.
lol. I forget that my experience only started at age 10. my first game was the first game I'd actually seen live. have no idea how to approach these little cry-babies.

The three North African quarterfinalists are in the same half of the AFCON bracket.  Unless Burkina-Faso goes through, the final will be a North Africa v West Africa matchup.

I'm still picking Senegal but anything can happen from here out.

Niang to Watford.

Had high hopes for him at MIlan, and while still a loan + obligation, the kid is destined to end up in the EPL

He and the coach just aren't jiving

Hey @Kafka, the hits keep on coming...

Sky in Italy: Watford agree deal with AC Milan for M'Baye Niang. He has to decide if he wants to go to Watford. Loan + £13m option to buy
The Niang deal has an interesting stipulation; the "option" to buy becomes mandatory if Niang scores 10 goals.  Don't think you see that very often...Usually it's appearances or mins...

Atlanta has not announced it yet but Middlesboro just did so it looks set now.  No word yet on if he will be a DP or not.  I think they could get him for TAM type money ($600k to 999k).

============================

Boro goalkeeper Brad Guzan is set to return to the USA later this year and will join up with Major League Soccer new-boys Atlanta United.

The chance for Guzan to return to the USA and continue his career has presented itself in recent weeks and, recognising the opportunity for him and his family, he will depart in the summer with the best wishes of all connected with Middlesbrough Football Club.

Guzan joins Atlanta on a “multi-year contract” via Major League Soccer’s Allocation Process after discussions between the player and MFC.

Yeah...I have my Oct U6 in a class with a Red Bulls "coach" now and while he's not the worst, he's definitely in the lower third.  He's also the youngest and smallest and is pretty clearly one of the few that doesn't "get" some of the strategy yet (he has the doing 1v1 tag and dribbling games and it's not pretty...hell I would have had trouble getting the ball from this one 6 year old).  I don't know when the development within the age groups starts to mesh, but it can't come soon enough.

I could watch that all day.

incredible to see that skill- and beyond the obvious velcro touch and monkey-moves, it's the positivity of the touches... always pushing aggressively into dangerous attacking space. hasn't changed, and what makes him a different type of player than the rest of the US guys.
I have to give props to the gangly kid in green who just kicked him.  That would have been my reaction the first time he threw that Cruyff turn #### at me.

There are a couple of U6 in my sons class that aren't far from that (Cruyff's notwithstanding).  None have that level of aggression though.

it's amazing to see- and especially at that age I think. there are kids who just "have it". not to say the rest of the kids can't catch up and "learn it"... but those handful of kids...

wish that was something I could have taught floppinho. for that matter- wish he even liked sports at all. he has intrinsic hand/foot-eye skills, but has always been terrified of physical competition (even though he's 99th% height and decent speed). when he played in the DUSC rec league u6 or u7 (entry-level), there was the wide range of ability- the flower pickers, the unathletic kids who tried hard, my son, the athletic kids who didn't try hard, the athletic kids who were a step ahead of the others... and then there was nicholas. that kid looked like a poor-man's CP out there- could go by every kid on the field and score at will... just knew how to get that last burst of speed to win the ball and control his body to dance by the defender. we won every game by such a blow-out (and had some other kids who could playbuncha years later, I wonder what happened to him.

My guess is he got picked out quickly.  I "caught" a more official-ish Red Bull official filming last week's session, so I'm guessing the scouting already has begun.

At least my kids aggressive and athletic, so I think the rest will come, it just sort of sucks he's playing against some boys who are a good head taller than him.  It's like he's playing up a level eventhough he's not.

I coached that team and told the director of the league about him right away. sounded like they already knew him, knew his ability and were trying to get him on their more advanced team, but the parents wouldn't commit to it because of time and cost. they were coming in from brooklyn for some reason.

from what I've seen on the playgrounds, athletic aggression is something kids are born with- so that's a good thing in terms of moving forward for sammihno. and obviously size isn't going to matter- even CP was a head shorter than a lot of those kids.

my kids are amazing in lots of ways- but organized sports doesn't appear to be in the cards.

I know a few kids here locally on par with what you see in CP's video.   They are in the Philly Union academy right now that would put 9yr old CP to the test.  It's so friggin' awesome to watch those boys play.

It's the years after this that are going to make/break them.  Hopefully they follow a similar path that CP did.

Dark arts, baby.  I didn't really get wrecked like that because I was normally content to hold position and not try to tackle the second I got a glimpse of the ball, but I'm pretty sure I was around 10 or so the first time I got pissed at a kid who wanted to dance on the ball when I stood there.  So I wiped him out.  Nobody needed to teach me to start leaving a little on the flair players.  I guess I was just naturally dirty.  Like a pre-pubescent Nigel DeJong.

Two Atlanta announcements today

*They announced they passed 27k in season ticket sales and intend to cap at 30k

*Announced the signing on loan of a young Spurs center back

Charlotte takes the next step.   Friday is the big vote I think.

============

Mecklenburg County commissioners voted 5-3 Thursday to move forward with investing $118 million in a soccer stadium to replace Memorial Stadium.

The vote, following one hour of contentious debate, roughly followed party lines. Five Democrats voted to move forward with the plan for a $175 million stadium. Two Republicans and Democrat Pat Cotham voted against it. Republican Bill James, who was absent, did not vote.

The county vote came as Charlotte City Council is scheduled to vote Friday on the $175 million stadium. A council majority may vote against the deal. A “no” decision by the city would kill the deal.

This is unbelievable...Palermo owner Zamperini has made THIRTEEN coaching changes in the last year & a half.  This guy is a gem; just read his interviews  :lmao:

Yeah...I was more than a little surprised on the quality of some of them.  There's one in particular that flat out school sammyinho in a dribbling 1v1 drill and sammyinho is usually pretty good at getting his body in the way and if that fails grabbing you.  The other thing I noticed is the quality of the instruction is world's better than anything I was ever exposed to...plus I get a free ticket to a Red Bulls game.

The city council isn't even going to vote

a teammate in college called me the toughest ##### (kitty) he'd ever seen. about right. I was the dancer on the ball kid, but as a self-styled two-way CMF, my defending was more about positioning and awareness of the 2nd/3rd ball and run that it was about breaking shinpads.

that said- I also have an innate and overinflated sense of justice. if somebody messes with me or my teammates, I was the first guy- after waiting enough for the play not be immediate and get me carded for retaliation- to go in with two feet and break some legs. had a year for NCal state team when my new english coach saw some of that and decided I was going to be the enforcer for the team at DCMF or stopper. never was my thing- because I'm more of a creator than a destroyer, man.

"El Stoppo"

does that mean the deal is dead?
Yes, unless the purported owner agrees to front the money.  I think there is a lot of resistance due to how much the city lost on the stupid NASCAR Hall of Fame.  Also he allegedly stole the plans of the Charlotte Independence ownership group for the same site.  Sad!

I live in Charlotte and would love to us land an MLS team but there is something off with this plan.  Maybe it is my dislike and distrust of Bruton Smith but I'm glad the county is not getting bullied by him.

Yeah it feels like a completely different game now.  I wish I had this level of coaching.

St Louis voted down the stadium as well today.  I am not a big fan of public financial support of stadiums so even though this might hurt both Charlotte and St Louis's bids, it will really show how serious they are if they turn and do it privately instead.

The group in San Diego has booked the USS Midway and have called for a massive press conference on the ship on Monday.  I wonder if they got some assurances that their plan was going to be accepted?
