This smells like agent talk but worth posting anyway

=====================================

It appears Sebastian Giovinco’s unprecedented production since joining Toronto FC has caught the eye of suitors in China.

The Atomic Ant has been offered a massive contract by an undisclosed club in the Chinese Super League, the player’s agent reportedly told Sky Sport Italia.

“The Chinese club seems to be very interested, but I don’t think it’ll be easy to take him away from Toronto,” Giovinco’s agent, Andrea D’Amico, told the broadcaster.

“We received an important offer from China and we’ll talk to Toronto to decide, along with Sebastian, what to do.”

Italian correspondent Tancredi Palmeri described the offer as “huge.”

However, the Toronto Sun learned later Tuesday that the Reds, in fact, “haven’t been contacted” by any Chinese parties interested in acquiring the soon-to-be 30-year-old.

Jose being Jose - again

Mourinho has ousted Manchester United’s existing batch of ball boys and girls in favor of players from academy teams, according according to reports in England. The club typically brought in ball kids from the Manchester United Foundation, but Mourinho reportedly wanted academy kids who will know when to waste time to run out the clock or speed up play.

EVERY DETAIL MATTERS

The US television package has made it difficult to follow AFCON.  From what I've seen, the quality of play hasn't been great but at least there hasn't been a goalless draw since the opening round of group games.  Pele may want to start investigating cryogenics if he wants to stand by his prediction that an African team will win the WC.

The biggest surprise is Ivory Coast departing in the groups.  The squad is in transition and they probably should have gotten more than two points from their first two matches.  They were still in a position to go through but lost to a Morocco team with few stars but good organization.

Egypt-Ghana should be good tomorrow although the Black Stars will field an understrength lineup.  This hurts Mali but if you only get one point from two, you're really not in a position to complain.

Senegal looks like the best team so far which probably means they'll get knocked out in the quarters.

Just to be clear, I am in Roma at the moment recovering for an injury and not for any other thing that is not to do with football!

:kicksrock: ...I superhate  you.  Just couldn't let me have one day, huh?

Coutinho reportedly signing extension @ 200,000/week to stay at Liverpool for five years -- with no buyout clause.

So... on a scale of one to Dele Alli, how likely is he to leave for Spain?

Great news.  Gotta get CL though, or he's gonna start getting antsy.

Hey @Kafka, the hits keep on coming...

Sky in Italy: Watford agree deal with AC Milan for M'Baye Niang. He has to decide if he wants to go to Watford. Loan + £13m option to buy

This is a good bathroom read.  It is about the Founder of Foursquare wanting to do something new so he started a semi pro team in the NPSL.

love this.

figured he would have been a college or HS player- but sounds like he never even played the sport. all very cool.

So this should be a fun exercise...

Your son's U9 travel team is pretty terrible.  They have a decent core of 6 players (13 kids total) that could be competitive in some tournaments, but the gap down the roster is pretty wide.  You're club has registered 2 teams for an upcoming Futsal tournament for his team to get the boys more time on the ball since its only 4v4 + GK.  You've been assistant coaching with another father, so the coach emails you both asking for thoughts on how to split the team.  Do we create a true A and B split or spread out the talent?  To add to the dilemma - there's only 1 division, so the B team is going to get thumped.

How do you respond?  Does your answer change depending on how good/bad your kid is?

Developmentally, the A/B split is probably better for both sets.  That way no parent is pissed because his decent kid has to give up some minutes and touches to a crappy kid.  Let the decent kids compete and the crappy kids maximize their touches.  Win/win.

Brad Davis was really the ultimate f you to Landon.  (There were somewhat logical reasons for the other 2)

"Sure you're the greatest player in our nation's history and dominated the gold cup 10 months ago. But if we happen to get a free kick in a specific  20x20 area of the field when brad happens to be in the game, we're gonna be happy he's out there...."

btw- I love love love that Brighton & Hove Albion FC is sitting at the top of the championship right now. all three of them. I'm all aboard that train if they make the EPL.

But, but, he's got oldschool Luca Toni Lotto cleats, with the Italian flag colors!!  Surely that has to count for something...

...Oh, & they're different teams, you Internazionale ignoramus.

agree.

plus, IME, any time you split the team up this way the B team has a insta-chip on the shoulder to overperform and kick the A team's ###.

In normal circumstances I'd agree, but that ain't happening here. WOOOOF

These guys are still babies at U9 - so I told him to not overthink it and do whatever his gut tells him.  If I had my way, I'd make it an A/B too - but I didn't feel right saying it given I can't give an unbiased opinion.
