Memphis was my first YouTube crush.  He was linked to lfc and ManU and I was enamored with him.  I thought he was the next Ronaldo and that lfc had missed out (as it turns out that was Dembele last season but I digress).

So while I was happy for Liverpool's "2nd choice" in Firmino, I was a bit disappointed.

Glad he was a bust!

It seems highly unlikely Lyon or Depay would agree to one, most likely BS reporting.
Why do you think its so unlikely?  I could easily the following exchange.

Man U:  "You can have Memphis for 24 million"

Lyon:  "We can only give 17.  21 with incentives."

Man U:  "In that case, we would require a buy back clause."

And then they negotiate what that would be, but probably at least high 20s to ensure Lyon would turn a profit.  Lyon is losing upside in case Memphis becomes a 50 million euro valued superstar, but they're gaining a player of a quality they normally can't compete for under a relatively fair price.

i keep getting these marketing emails from James Miller.

Everytime I see it I read it as James Milner and wonder why he is emailing me...

Monsieur Gourcuff's response is appropriately measured.
in a weird way it is like Van Basten got his hands on the list of items MLS was considering back in 1995 when they were deciding on how many various changes they wanted to make to get American's to watch the games.

Even in those dark MLS days most of the ideas were deemed foolish and were not implemented.  I think only two ideas survived that original list of horror to get implemented and eventually tossed the minute Garber was hired.

Well, I can't wait for the 64 team WC in 2030.  You know that's the end result.

There is very little history of Portuguese players in MLS so this is an interesting signing by LA.  This signing again continues the theme of signing younger players across the league.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017) – The LA Galaxy announced today that the club has signed Portuguese Midfielder João Pedro Almeida Machado, known as João Pedro, from Vitória Guimarães of Portugal’s first division. Pedro, 23, was added as a Special Discovery Player through Target Allocation Money (TAM). He will occupy an International roster spot and officially join the Galaxy’s roster pending the receipt of his ITC and P-1 Visa.

“João is an extremely talented midfielder who has experience playing at a high-level in Portugal,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Peter Vagenas. “He is only 23 years old and has the best years of his career front of him. We identified him as a top target this offseason and we think he can immediately help strengthen our midfield. We look forward to welcoming João to Los Angeles as we continue to prepare for the upcoming season.”

never thought to look at the map of the US/Canada to see how the MLS teams stack out... wondering if there's a specifcally under-represented region? Southwest?

The two areas are still the Southeast (they still really only have Atlanta and Orlando) and the Upper Midwest (Wisc and only one team in the Ohio-IN-Pitt-Det area).  The SW is basically just Phoenix.

man, if I wasn't getting ready to leave work I'd fire up a factious soccer team name thread... Kentucky Moonshiners
Looks like you'll be alright - just make sure you are not driving or operating any heavy machinery (or boats).

ETA - I would totally get season tickets to the Moonshiners...
